Broughton & District Tennis Club Description

Membership
Tennis is a sport that all the family can play, so our membership caters for all ages. We have provision for juniors (under 16's), intermediates (16 – 18's and up to age 21 if in full time education) and seniors. We also have family membership and chaperone membership. There are great discounts for joining more than one section of the Club. Joining the Tennis Section at Broughton & District Club offers a range of benefits. Coaching sessions cater for members of all abilities, free access to the courts, social tennis sessions, team play and entry to club tournaments. The Tennis Section is friendly and vibrant and new members are welcomed. Visitors are also encouraged for a small fee.

There are two categories of membership which may be of particular interest to Tennis Section members. They are Family Membership and Chaperone Membership.

Family Membership is offered in the form of reductions to junior membership subscriptions if both parents /partners are full senior members of the Tennis Section. Instead of a junior subscription of £40. 00 the first child will pay £28. 00 and each subsequent child £20. 00.

Chaperone Membership is offered to the parents of children who are under the age of 10 on 1st January of each year on condition that the children become full junior members of the Tennis Section and pay the junior subscription of £40. 00. The cost of Chaperone membership to the parent will be the rate for social membership of the Club. This will give the parent Club Membership and also entitle them to play on the mini-tennis courts, or on the full tennis courts if there were no full Section members waiting, but only with their child. The parent would need to complete a Club Membership application form and pay the initial “one-off” joining fee of £5. 00. Please see Membership page for information on Junior membership fees.

Competitive Opportunities
During the summer months – from April to August, the Tennis Section of Broughton Club has a total of ten teams playing in the local leagues – eight members (four men and four ladies) play in each of our four teams in the Ribble League and we also enter four men's teams and two ladies' teams in the Fylde League. All league matches in the Ribble and Fylde Leagues are doubles matches.

Teams are also entered in various knockout tournaments during the summer season. There is also one men's team in the local Autumn League, which runs from the end of August to November.

The thriving junior section boasts two under-16 teams, an under-14 team and an under-12 team, in the local leagues. Teams are also entered in the National Junior Club League, in which we have had some success. Many of our junior members also play regularly in the senior teams. The Club also takes part in the "The Road to Wimbledon" competition annually. Mini-tennis tournaments (for those between the ages of 4 and 10) are held throughout the year.

In addition, there are several tournaments held in-house at the Club each year catering for all levels of play.

Fixture lists for all junior and senior matches for both Fylde League and Ribble League can be found on the respective websites.

Use of Courts - Throughout the Year
Monday evening – all the year round - is Club Night. This is a "turn up and play" session from 6. 00 p. m. - 8. 00 p. m. , followed by arranged fours until 10. 00 p. m. At the same time, on the carpet courts, there is coaching for beginners from 6. 00 p. m. – 7. 30 p. m.

On Friday evenings throughout the year, the junior members have priority use of the courts, with organised group coaching and general play. Social tennis is on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9. 00 a. m.

Use of Courts - Summer
From the start of the local Leagues in April until mid-August, all courts are used for matches on most Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6. 30 p. m. onwards. Occasionally during the summer there may be evenings when no matches have been scheduled and the courts will be available for general use and this will be indicated on the calendar on the notice board in the pavilion and on the calendar below.

Junior matches will be held on some /all of the courts on Saturday and Sunday mornings, starting at 10. 00 a. m. for around 2 hours. Dates and times of matches will be on the Section notice board in the pavilion and on the website tennis calendar below.

There are regular group coaching sessions held at various times during the week for all ages and standards. Please see the "Coaching" section for further details. At all other times the courts are available for members' use.

Use of Courts - Winter
From the beginning of September until the middle of October the courts are used for Ribble Autumn League matches on occasional Saturday or Sunday mornings from 10. 00 a. m. onwards.

The group coaching continues throughout the winter months on a similar basis to the group sessions held during the summer. Please see "Coaching" for further details. On Thursday evenings a very popular social tennis event is held - the mixed doubles organised arranged fours - followed by "pie and peas" in the Club bar. (See notice board in the pavilion for further details).
