About Burnage Rugby Club

Burnage Rugby Club

Burnage Rugby Club Description

Burnage Rugby Club was founded as an old boys' club for ex-pupils of Burnage High School. In the 1970s we moved from our one pitch site on Queensway in Burnage, Manchester, to our beautiful green belt site in Heaton Mersey, Stockport where you can find us today. We have had our fair share of difficulties, including two recent fires which destroyed the club house and its temporary replacement respectively. Like the best Burnage teams though, the membership clubbed together to work their way out of trouble. Hard work on and off the field is beginning to pay dividends: we now have a comfortable and spacious club house, the largest artificial rugby pitch in the North of England, a 3G floodlit 5 a side football pitch, a pay and play 9 hole golf course, 2 large, well tended grass rugby pitches, overloooked by what must be the tallest posts in the county!

On the field the club is developing quickly. We field 4 senior teams: the 1st XV compete in National 3 North, the 2nd XV in the Bateman Premier League, the highest standard of 2nd team rugby available. The 3rd and 4th XV compete a little lower down the University of Salford league structure, still offering competitive league rugby throughout the season. We field a senior colts and are working hard on our junior rugby under the Burnage Barracudas name, currently fielding an U15 side in friendly fixtures.

The 2011-12 season marks our 75th year. There will be a number of events to celebrate our club's history this season.

Donโ€™t forget folks - itโ€™s coming home tonight down at Burnage Rugby Club. England v Croatia in the semi-final of the football World Cup (thatโ€™s right, semi-final!) is live on the big screen, kick off 7pm. So dust off your waistcoats, buff up the three lions on your shirt and get ready to dance like Nobby and now Jesse and cheer them on to victory! Hope to see many of you down there later! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›

Whilst thereโ€™s no rugby on, everyone knows itโ€™s coming home ... the semi-final is on at the club on Weds night and thereโ€™ll be a decent crowd down for it. So if youโ€™re unsure where to watch it head down and letโ€™s cheer us on to the final! #threelions #itscominghome

Burnage Rugby Club 2โ€™s defeated Kendal 2โ€™s 30-16 in the Lancashire Jug Final at Burnley RFC. A Man of the Match performance from Jonny Scholes and great performances all round in hot conditions mean we are half way to our goal of 2/2 trophies this weekend with the 1XV playing Broughton Park tomorrow in Wigan. Congratulations 2โ€™s and enjoy your night ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›

We hired out here for our gymnastics awards party today. The staff were amazing and helped us prepare the room and were so helpful! Such a great venue to hire for a children's party with the outside area and inside room. They had everything we needed and even more. Thank you!!

User

We held our daughter's 5th birthday at the club and it was great. Staff very accommodating and friendly and a good space. She also comes on Sunday mornings during the rugby season to the Burnage Rugby Academy and loves it. Great for families.

User

We have been holding our annual summer party at Burnage Rugby Club for over 5 years now and it gets better and better each year! All the staff are wonderful and work really hard to make sure everything goes to plan. Thanks once again for another great party and see you next year x

User

I've been coming to the club for years and have had numerous parties for birthdays, christenings and engagements both during the day and in the evening. Staff always go out of their way to help and nothing is too much trouble. The venue is ideal for adults and kids with plenty of usable space inside and out. Kids have plenty of room to run about and adults have the choice of inside or outside under the covered pergola. I'd certainly recommend it anyone and it definitely deserves its 5 stars
