Buxton & Leek College came into existence on 1st August 2012 following the merger of Buxton College, Leek College and the University of Derby. The combined College has the size and resources to provide a comprehensive, high-quality education and training service to students of all ages and abilities from Leek and Buxton and the surrounding areas, including: full-time, part-time, Apprenticeships, University Level, Work Based and Learning for Leisure.

Last week Buxton & Leek College welcomed the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust to present the John Muir Award to SEN students who have been working hard on conservation related activities.
The event recapped all the tasks that the students enjoyed as part of the partnership, with video footage to prove all the effort. The students even got to experience some 'wild cooking'!

BLC is supporting a Summer Safety Campaign! The next instalments in Buxton will be carried out tomorrow (Monday 10) and Wednesday 12 June, carried out by PCSOs. Tutors across the college have booked these sessions.

Goodbye ūüĎčto the 2nd year Outdoor SportsūüŹĒ students; over the last two years they have undertaken Ski trips‚õ∑ to the Alps, expeditions in Snowdonia, Yorkshire Dales, Llangollen and the Peak District.
They have helped Peak Park rangers on the Roaches, scuba divedūüŹä‚Äć‚ôāÔłŹ with Buxton Sub Aqua club and achieved their power boating qualifications on the River Mersey. ūüö§ Other safe water training and paddle sport ūüö£‚Äć‚ôÄÔłŹqualifications were achieved with the help of Tittesworth Water Sports ...& Activity Centre; and Rescue & EmergencyūüÜė Care 1st aid courses were also completed.
Some students even undertook their climbing instructorūüßó‚Äć‚ôāÔłŹ courses at Awesome Wall and recently they have completed their Lowland Expedition leaders‚Äô course and Silver DofE.ūü•ą
Work placements have been filled in various centres across the UK and a couple of them worked in a sailing centre in Greece.ūüĆŹ
ūüėĀMany have gained employment for when they leave the course working for companies such as PGL, Operation Encounter, Scottish Outdoor Education Centres and Tittesworth Water Sports.

Recently our Public Services, Year 1 students enjoyed a visit to Westminster ūüĆáūüƆūüá¨ūüáßto tour the parliament buildings.
Whilst there the students met with Ruth George MP ūüĎ©‚Äćūüíľfor High Peak and discussed a number of current issues within Buxton and the High PeakūüŹĒ. They also talked about the topical Love our College campaign #LoveOurColleges ūüíē which Ruth is a firm supporter of.
The students also quizzed Ruth on parliament issues and furthered their understanding of the House of Lord...s /Commons and processes such as passing a bill.
