Now we’re using the hedgehog to increase the range of movement in the lower back. Often an area of the body that feels tight and stiff and can go into spasm. If you have a non-specific lower back problem then this could be just the thing to help you mobilise it once more. Always check with your health care professional first.

User

Shoulder stability on the hedgehog. Many of us spend a lot of our time sat at desks or driving. This can create a rounded upper back which stretches and weakens the muscles in that area. By working to strengthen and stabilise we not only improve our posture but we allow the arms to become stronger when performing exercises such as push ups. The hedgehog is absolutely brilliant for this and also helps to encourage more symmetry.

User

Upgrade your squats with a hedgehog 😆 (sentences you never thought you’d say!) By adding in a stability challenge you make the whole body work harder and get a stronger core.

Hedgehogs 🦔 aren’t just for release work. We can challenge our deep stabilising muscles and core control by flipping it over so it rocks 😬 Here the hedgehog is able to rock side to side and I’m having to really work hard to control my movements so I don’t fall off 😆 Great for improving your balance, especially if you enjoy sports.

User

As requested 😁 More on the hedgehogs 🦔 You have been absolutely loving them in class and last week we did a one off workshop on releasing muscular tension. So here’s a bit more! If you struggle with upper body tension and restricted shoulder movement, it might be because of tension in the muscles down the sides of the body. ... This great release sequence should have you moving better in no time. Please note that not every exercise or piece of apparatus is appropriate for everyone. Always check with a medical professional or exercise specialist first.

An interesting article which addresses many of the questions I am most commonly asked.

Did you know we have another page? Together with health, wellness and nutrition coach, Ruth Shaw, we run the Finding Clarity- Infinite Possibilities page. It’s dedicated to us women (sorry chaps 😬) who are going through challenging life changes. It might be emotional 😭- kids growing up or leaving home. Mental - menopause brain fog, retirement on the horizon ... Physical- our bodies just aren’t the same and we need to learn to still love them and nurture them. We really love to receive questions and comments on our posts so that we can share our collective wisdom and support one another. So why not hop on over there and see what we’re up to 😁 We have some retreats planned, with the first one being a single day at Cuerden Park. It would be great to hear from you. Much love, Sarah and Ruth

Tight hamstrings 😱 We spend so much of our lives sitting and compressing the back of our legs that the tissue there becomes very tight, stuck and inflexible. This can cause problems for the lower back. Not everyone can do this exercise, but we have lots of other moves in our barre class that will help to lengthen and improve flexibility. Why not come along and try for⭐️ FREE ⭐️at our studio open day this Saturday 1.30pm. ... Message me to reserve your place 😁

Coming back to the body map we performed on Friday, did you feel that you were resting more on your shoulders than your ribs? Maybe when you lift your arm you push the bottom of your rib cage forward. You have just identified tightness in the back which can restrict movement of the arm from the shoulder. Not great for everyday life, but especially important if you play any racket sports, golf, swim, dance etc. Watch the video to see how to begin releasing this area. To le...arn more, why not book the hedgehog release session on Wednesday 19th at 6pm. Follow the link. Only 8 places. https://app.gymcatch.com/provider/593/eve nts/259839

Did you do the body map yesterday? Maybe you noticed one of these: * a difference in pressure between each side of back of the pelvis. * feeling you were resting more on your tailbone than your glutes (bottom). * lower back arched away from the floor. ... This could be due to stuck tissue and dehydration in the back of the pelvis. It might mean that you get lower back ache, tight, aching hips or restricted movement. There are certain moves to help release this, here’s a couple in the video. To find out more, why not book on to the hedgehog release session on Wednesday 19th June at 6pm. At some point in our lives, all of us feel pain and stiffness in the body. That might be due to an injury that you know has happened, but sometimes it just appears and we can’t think what has brought it on. Try watching this video and have a go at the body map to help you identify the area which could be causing you problems. Feel free to ask any questions. I’ll be showing you some release techniques over the next few days.
