Councillor John Hacking attended a lively and busy Chorlton Traders meeting tonight at Chorlton Library. Thank you especially to Heather and Craig from GMP Chorlton who came along to help with crime issues directly affecting Chorlton businesses. #shoplocal

Thanks to our Labour Councillor colleagues in Chorlton Park Ward for this update.
"Update on the former Post Box Cafe Site/The International Supermarket - May 31st 2019
The Chorlton Park councillors met with the planning enforcement officer today to get an update about the International Supermarket and discuss the next steps to be taken. It's quite a complicated case for a variety of reasons, including the number of underleases linked to the site, but the main points are:... The deadline for compliance with the enforcement notice to remove the structure and restore the site back to its original state expires today - 31st May. This deadline had been extended from the original notice because an appeal had been submitted to the Planning Inspectorate in January. (The appeal was rejected on April 9th). From tomorrow (June 1st) the owners will be committing a criminal offence by leaving the structure in place and so criminal investigations by council planning enforcement will begin next week. For the case to be successful a procedure has to be followed and evidence has to be collected and the relevant parties interviewed. This will take a month or so and then a date will be set for Magistrates court (which again could take time as there is a long waiting list for court dates at the moment). The council will do all they can to avoid this by continuing in constructive dialogue with the owners to encourage them to remove the building. The council will order the demolition of the building if the owners do not act and recover the costs from them. This will be a logistically difficult task and could take two to three months to organise. Please be assured that a lot of officer time is going into this case in order to bring it to a conclusion as soon as possible but it will not happen quickly. We have stressed again that the two trees need to be replaced and the planning officer has assured us that this will happen. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. Joanna, Mandie and Dave"

BIN COLLECTION PROBLEMS
Chorlton Labour Councillors have a meeting in a week or so with Biffa. They are the company contracted by MCC to provide the bin collection service in Chorlton. Ww have had numerous complaints from Chorlton residents over the last few months about the way the bins are handled on bin day. The complaints have mainly been about bins not being replaced where they were left (or even close) and bins being left on pavements and creating an obstruction. We hav...e also had complaints about the mess left after bin collection, especially on blue bin day. If you have any specific examples of similar issues on your road in Chorlton can you please email Councillir Hacking on cllr.j.hacking@manchester.gov.uk so we can give real life examples to Biffa at our meeting. Please email me before the 10th June. Thanks. If you haven't got access to email please just DM us.

This lunchtime Councillor Hacking attended the unveiling of a reading chair at Hulme Library in memory of our much missed Chorlton Councillor, Sheila Newman. Thanks to Manchester Libraries for organising this. Sheila was a passionate advocate of childrens reading and many moons ago was a Hulme councillor.

A hole has re-appeared on Wilbraham Road this morning close to Elektrik/Bargain Booze.Councillor John Hacking reported this again this morning. This is the update he was sent this afternoon from MCC Highways Dept. Their view is that this is likely to have risen due to a problem with the United Utilities water network. UU were informed of the problem on Weds and are investigating.
