me and my wife come here for our honeymoon, we would highly recommend this place, very friendly staff, high quality food, we ate in every night and the food was amazing, the sights are just breathe taking.
great selection of beers and the food was super we had a pint of Cumberland beer and steak and onion baguette with chips could not fault it.
The food here is absolutely superb! I've tried 3 meals on the menu so far and the quality is consistently good. The bar is lively with great entertainment, the staff are friendly and helpful and the guest rooms are clean and comfy. Great location next to the shops too. Highly recommended!
Staff very friendly rooms clean food looked good breakfast was lovely . had a great stay lots to do in ambleside in the lake district
Me and my husband have been here over several years and can not recommend this place enough for a quiet little pub! Food is amazing and a wide selection of homemade dishesďż˝ also a pool table to keep you entertained. We always visit and love it!
It does what it says on the tin. This is a lively Sports Bar. The staff are very welcoming, there's an excellent choice of well kept beers and the food is very good and well priced.
If you want a quiet hotel in the Lakes then don't stay here but if you want to enjoy your time in the Lake district and want to have some fun in the evenings then this is definitely the place for you. The rooms were clean, comfortable and very modern. I paid extra for a room with a fell view and I wasn't disappointed at all, I had a beautiful view to wake up to every morning. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming (even if they were doing breakfast after working an evening shift the night before). The food... Oh my the food! It was incredible! Very high quality food, very clearly freshly prepared and cooked and without the huge price tag. The burgers said "home made", I've seen that so many times before however you could really tell these were home made burgers, the steak... Mouth watering, every thing we ate was absolutely delicious. I will be back, in a heartbeat!
Food was fab, service was great too. Even brought the dog a bowl of water. Would definitely recommend
All I can say is F A B U L O U S very friendly, accommodation great & food amazing đ well worth a visit xx
5 of us stood at the end of the bar (near the sink) Saturday to watch England. We would just like to say a massive thanks to landlord and staff for a fantastic night we will never forget, thanks guys. Phil.
We are staying here for two nights location is great good parking for our motorcycle. Staff are brill and friendly the room is clean and comfortable. The food is very good pub food. The breakfast was freshly cooked couldn't ask for more
Had a two night stay large room basic but clean lovely breakfast will be back
Came here last night to celebrate a friends birthday, there were 13 of us and the food all came out at same time and it was hot, chilli chicken burger was lovely and nice chips
We visited this pub to watch a football match, as very limited options nearby. We also decided to eat here. Food was quickly served, but very average. A decent pub if you want a sports bar, pool table, beer and some cheap tucker!
Firstly let me say the staff were lovely. All very friendly, helpful and welcoming. We missed first days breakfast as had to go out early but second morning breakfast was really nice and served with a smile. Soooo many stairs to carry luggage up, we were on top floor. Room was like a sauna (could definitely do with air con or even fans), window was so small didn't make much difference when opened and view was of properties at the back (when I climbed to look out). Shower was either scolding or freezing, bathroom door frame falling off, toilet wouldn't flush at first and no tv remote (offered a change of room if toilet couldn't be sorted but that would be the next day - luckily toilet got sorted, staff took a tv remote from another room which surely meant the next guests didn't have one?)Could hear everything from the bar but that's to be expected from a pub/b&b. So all in all staff great but not overly impressed with accommodation
Enjoyed going back after 18years...last time I was there was when I was a skinny 18 year old kid from Liverpool living/working in Ambleside and that was the place to be. Bar stewardess who served us last night was probably even born but very polite and welcoming.
On a recent solo drive home to Glencoe I phoned my partner and asked her to find a nice place halfway to break my journey. I fancied a nice local Inn in the Lakes with a good selection of ale & decent food. It sounded ideal from the description & my partner liked the look of it so booked & paid online for me.
Firstly, donât even attempt to use their âfreeâ car park if you value your wing mirrors & paintwork.
Reception is in the busy sports bar which was rammed with football fans watching the Champions League semi final. I didnât really mind as I was going to have a pint and watch it myself however, not a great first impression.
No warm or even friendly welcome from the Barmaid who couldnât find my reservation in the âbookâ and when I said my partner had booked online a couple of hours ago she said âwell I donât have the online bookings and she wonât have paid as we only take the card details as securityâ I told her that the room had been paid for but she was having none of it. She said she would speak to the manager but he was not due in until 10pm. Eventually managed to get checked in but as the kitchen closed at 9pm I just dropped my bag off in the room and headed for the bar.
Disappointing to find their cask ale selection was just the one. No worries, got my pint and asked if I could order the fish & chips. âWhere are you sitting?â Asked the barmaid. âEh, nowhere! as all the tables are fullâ âyou canât order food without a tableâ I asked her if I could sit at the bar or was there anywhere residents could dine and she pointed to the room at the back reserved for breakfasts. âYou can sit in there but thereâs no TVâ. I decided to try another pub. Plenty of choice and some fine ales to be had but alas, âkitchen shuts at 8pmâ managed to find a great pub serving food until 9pm so eventually got a feed.
Back to Churchillâs and the game was nearly over so shower & bed for me. Hadnât paid much attention to the room earlier but on closer inspection I found it to be lacking in the cleanliness dept and generally poorly maintained. See pics and make your own mind up. Be fine if it was a bothy but thatâs not what I paid for.
Nice pleasant lady on breakfast duty and breakfast itself was adequate although the crockery wasnât clean.
So, the place is an Inn meaning itâs a pub with rooms. I take no issue with that. It was busy as the footy was on, again not a problem.
The problem for me is the lack of basic customer service. The Initial poor welcome by the surly barmaid was not helped by her lack of knowledge regarding the online booking system. No apology when I showed her the confirmation email. The place itself is rather tired and the staff seem to be suffering from customer fatigue but the season has barely started. A bit of attention to basic hospitality, maintenance & housekeeping wouldnât go wrong.
No shortage of much better places to stay & spend your money. Do yourself a favour and give old Churchill a body swerve.
Beware of limbo dancers entering the room via the gap at the bottom of the door.
Turned away by a âDoor Supervisorâ at 3.30 in the afternoon because âyouâre not allowed to bring food in.â Our âfoodâ was a packet of Grasmere Gingerbread weâd bought up the road. I can think of many words Iâd use to describe the chap but Iâll go with âJobsworthâ so I donât get blocked!
Few of us had Sunday lunch they yesterday it took ages for the meal to come the man said instead of serving it in order he will just bring it all out as it was ready some tables didnât get served all together it came out in dribs and drabs then when you ask for extra gravy as they wasnât much he said you will have to wait till meals are served see whatâs left after that I asked again he then brought it 10 min later told him itâs no good now as almost finished he said they make gravy to order which was instant gravy I said most place have a pan of home made gravy Every time he did some thing he just sighed he had a bad attitude certainly wonât go they again the meal was a disgrace ÂŁ9 95 only good thing about it beef was nice veg carrots couldnât really cut were to hard broccoli was hard got only 2 small roast potatoes and a frozen Yorkshire pudding and instant gravy I have had a lot better meals for less money !!!!
