This shopping centre is an absolute hidden gem of the North.

The shopping centre, known affectionately as "The Conny" by the locals, boasts a whole host of top of the range stores, such as an Argos which doubles as an EE store, a Poundland with items ranging from 50p to £7 and who can forget the local Farmfoods... The gem upon this particular crown, with its wonderful subterranean lighting and absolute bargains!

The aroma of Pound Bakery fills the air, coupled with the harsh yet beautiful smell of Joop and Lynx draws passers by right to the heart of the complex.

The design of the building is not to be understated either. With approximately 40% left intentionally abandoned, as to not overwhelm shoppers with "too much choice". A genius and innovative move by the owners.

Another interesting ploy is the lack of functional escalators... Promoting a healthy and mobile lifestyle for all visitors, young and old alike.

"But what about us disabled shoppers" I hear you cry? Well, I'm happy to inform you that they have you in mind. If you arrive at the centre via the bottom floor then you may be treated to a lovely cracked glass walled elevator ride (subject to maintenance). Failing this, the ground and upper floors are joined by a 45 degree incline ramp, a perfect challenge for both disabled and abled bodied people alike.

All things considered, this little piece of heaven makes for an exhilarating experience for all the senses.

10/10 - Would shop again

The concourse is full of independent shops which keep the town diverse. They offer a human touch. They supply goods at comparable prices to the multi nationals. Often beating them on price.. Doing this without any help or multi million pound advertising budgets. Nobody does their adverts. They are personal businesses that keep money local.. Not sending it to a head office in a capital city or tax haven out the country. Think before you buy.

User

I just want to say a huge thank you to the Concourse security guys who came to my mums aid in the upstairs hairdressers at lunch time. Three lovely gentlemen who reassured mum and got her back in her wheelchair without fuss. Thanks guys x

User

Good day out ! It's been 25 years since we went to the concourse , we are not from this area , we had a lovely breakfast in a cafe ! The only thing missing is a sainsburys and MS , but besides this I would recommend shopping visits

User

Shit shops, heaven for Jeremy kyle applicants. boss for doing laps though

User

I think its okay! The' Home Bargains' is huge, Peacocks is good, Superdrug, New Look and Wilco's, always get what I need there and its free parking. The staff in all the shops are friendly and helpful and the cleaners are always bustling about keeping the place spotless, cant understand the bad reviews really, still each to his/her own.

User

I lived in skem for 36 years and come back to visit family . The concourse was my childhood and adulthood . I've worked here too. It's a shame it gets slated cos company's just do t want to invest on small towns anymore .bigger names would mean more people shop in it . I won't slate the concourse because its always served its purpose

User

Would like to make a complete, my daughter who is pregnant hates smoking. She has to walk out the concourse while everyone is smoking at the door. Someone needs to move them away from any doors. Give them a place they can smoke.

User

Went in there for the first time in donkeys and thought what a shit hole empty shops market stalls empty the choice of shop to go in to is crap no wonder asda is always choker

User

Most of the shops are empty we went to macdonalds first which after my daughter and wife had visited the ladies said it smelled bad. We the proceeded to shopping centre to find the same smell. A bit like dirty nappies. to many empty units and a horrible atmosphere. Needs a good old knocking down. I may be spoilt here as I'm from Newcastle and we do have the metrocentre. But the concourse is not a place I'll be going back to

User

Tell me why on earth have got this stupid 2 hour rule for your car parking? If I was an executive, I wouldn't put that into force, it is ludicrous. You are stopping your revenue because people can't come back to spend their money in your shopping centre that is a shithole. Fine by me - I'll just go go Liverpool one for now on. #retardedmanagement

User

Not worth your time. Full of empty shops, escalators that don't work, and an entire second floor that has been empty for literally decades!

Anything you expect to find in any town centre just isn't here, but it does have:

3 bookies

2 pound shops

A cash generators

Mcdonalds

And a pub stuck on the side.

'The conny' is long past its sell by date and needs new ownership. The biggest store in there (Dunnes) has been shuttered for what must be an easy 10yrs!

So many stores are empty, its beyond a joke now.

'The conny' is a huge space full of wasted potential...and it sums up the town perfectly.

User

It's a total shitehole and needs demolishing asap, actively stopping the town centre regeneration is disgraceful.

On the plus side, it's the safest place to be if ISIS attacks cos they wouldn't waste the bombs.

As dear departed Father Ted would say "down with this sort of thing....!!!!"

User

How about management replacing our permanently breaking down walk in lift and escalators in our shopping centre. They are well past their sell by date and need to be replaced as the parts are probably obsolete or far too expensive to replace. Would it not be better to spend money on them now and reduce the hardship of customers who are disabled, elderly as they will have to combat 'Cardiac Hill.' which is the walking ramp which leads to the upper and lower level in the shopping centre. What is happening to our lovely shopping centre when it rains buckets are placed all over where customers are trying to shop. This also needs to be rectified if these repairs are not done in the immediate future it could well spell the 'Death Knell for the centre.'

When are we ever going to see the long awaited Cinema plus more bigger retailers coming to the centre

User

Horrible and it smells! Really off putting!

User

Dying building stupid high rents by silly owners now brought in a charging car park and limits to staying and returning avoid this dump

Horrible and it smells! Really off putting!
