About Creating Adventures

Creating Adventures is about bringing 'adventure' back into lives of adults with Autism and learning disabilities, to bring a twinkle to their eyes and make them feel alive again. Give the adults new opportunities, new experiences and life long hobbies.

Creating Adventures Description

At Creating Adventures we are committed to enriching the lives of adults with intellectual disabilities, complex needs and challenging behaviour through a programme of activities with a therapeutic and holistic outcome. We will create varied and imaginative adventures both great and small for these adults to help improve their physical and mental well-being, promote happiness and create a sense of personal fulfilment.

The adults and carers in our Art session this week have been creating Mandala Art pieces.
Mandala art is healing, transformative, and addicting. When working with patterns in a concentric fashion, it becomes rhythmic, meditative, and you can really allow stress to fall away. Our adults certainly loved it and are working towards a bigger piece.
Naz Sheikh our Art session leader is amazing and always looks for pieces the adults can create but with a bigger piece in mind so th...at they can see the team masterpiece and feel a sense of achievement.

Did your Hubbie or Boyfriend get one too many boxsets of Lynx over Christmas? Have you got more Bubble Bath than you could go through in a year? Enough Bath Bombs to fizz up the Manchester Ship Canal?? Well worry no more as we want to take them off your hands.
We are looking for your unwanted NEW toiletry sets that we can use throughout the year at events and for Christmas (yes, we said it). If you are in Warrington and you have a few spares then our fabulous friends at Shipton the Jewellers in Golden Square will be happy to take them off you for us. Alternatively drop us a message on here and we might be able to sort something out. We'd be really grateful for your support and we're sure it'll help with your Marie Kondo tidying policy!
Thanks everyone.

We love to get feedback from the families and carers of the adults that we have supported. We recently spoke to the Mum of a young man who attended one of the first projects we organised.
"He enjoyed the sessions so much that we continued to work with Tom and he has gone from strength to strength with his music. Among other things he has - recorded his first album - worked with Venture Arts to produce album/CD cover artworks ... - worked with VA to create music videos - helped to set up and run music sessions for young adults with disabilities at HOME Manchester - performed 3 gigs and just a couple of months ago he won the Manchester Culture Awards - Young Creative 2018.
Lots of other people have supported him along the way - but it all started out with those 3 sessions provided by Creating Adventures!"
We see first hand the difference our work makes to the lives of adults but its wonderful to hear from the families and be able to evidence the benefits to our supporters.

I know I keep talking about Christmas, but so much happened for us I just have to keep the news flowing!
I had the absolute pleasure of meeting William Daniels at our Manchester Christmas Party who last summer attended the Didsbury Festival and raised an outstanding £116.45 for Creating Adventures by singing and dancing with his friends from his Supported Living Organisation City Care Partnership Ltd.
I can see why William raised so much as he was a joy to have at the party with his infectious personality and smile as he took to the microphone throughout the party to join in with the songs. Well done William and a huge thank you from us all at Creating Adventures, what a star!

Christmas may be well and truly over but yesterday after a fabulous 2019 brainstorming session with Anne Jackson we were getting dates in the diary for our Christmas parties in Warrington and Manchester and I also collected a 7ft Pre-lit Christmas Tree very kindly donated by Tesco for the Creating Adventures office and to be used at our Christmas parties. Thank you so much Tesco Warrington Community & Charity Information for this wonderful donation.

Fancy a Challenge in 2019?
As a charity we rely on the generosity, bravery, courage (and often stupidity) of everyday people doing extraordinary challenges and smaller events to raise money for us.
If you're looking for a challenge in 2019 why not raise money for Creating Adventures at the same time and help us to continue the amazing work we do out in the community providing not just activities but often the gateway to much more including reducing isolation in the lives of a...dults with Autism and learning disabilities.
If you're looking for a challenge please get in touch and we'll try and help, if you've already got a challenge in mind let us know and we'll chat about how you can tie in with Creating Adventures giving you all you need to get started!

For many people who we support this is unfortunately a sensitive subject but also very much a part of real life. Through illness or disability those who are no longer able to make financial or welfare decisions may need a Lasting Power of Attorney which is a trusted representative to make decisions on their behalf.
I met a lovely gentleman the other day, Dave Espin from Precious Lives. He is doing a FREE talk to discuss this subject at Stockton Heath Library on Thursday 17th ...January at 7.30pm. The talk is completely free, offering advice and what to do. If you want to you can then book a one to one consultation with Dave to discuss this subject further.
Stockton Heath Library, Alexandra Park, Alexandra Rd, Warrington WA4 2AN
I'd like to think that we don't just provide activities but also signpost families to services that could be of use to them. So please take this information and use it how you wish.
Dave has also offered to give our members an exclusive discount AND donate to Creating Adventures if any families use his services.

Just had a lovely meeting with Beky Wakefield from Asda about all things community to raise awareness of and raise funds for Creating Adventures. I didn't realise how much ASDA do to support groups and charities in the local community. So we'll be doing bag packs, Awareness events, collections and inviting the lovely ASDA colleagues to join our events.
If you know of an ASDA colleague please ask them to get in touch - they can support our local fundraising and apply for match... funding.
Is this something you can do too??
Watch this space or get in touch to find out more!

Our art sessions are up and running again after the Christmas break with a slight change.
As we develop and continue to support adults of varying needs and levels of ability, before Christmas we noticed that due to having some adults in our group who were being quite vocal but happy, it was starting to distress the other adults who were content yet noise sensitive.
So we have added an hour onto the Arts & Crafts session every Monday. ... 9am - 11am is for adults with mild learning disabilities and Autism 11am - 12pm is for those adults who have more complex needs.
This way we can accommodate ALL needs without excluding anyone.

We're planning ahead and thinking about our events throughout the year. We'll soon be telling you what you can do with your 'unwanted' Christmas pressies (in the nicest way of course) so keep checking back for more details.

I am absolutely over the moon to announce that yesterday I received some news which was like an early Christmas present to me and our Board of Trustees.
Kirsty James from Colony Networking has chosen Creating Adventures to be their Charity for 2019.
This will help us immensely to raise our profile which is one of our top priorities for 2019 as we grow our services for adults with Autism and Learning Disabilities. We have had an exciting 2018 and will most definitely have an...other exciting year in 2019 with opportunities such as this.
I look forward to meeting with Kirsty in the New Year and also look forward to meeting all Colony members/attendees and telling you all about our wonderful charity Creating Adventures and the impact we make with these special adults in our community.
Thank you so much again Kirsty and Merry Christmas to you all.
