Lovely local foods and crafts, in and around the Visitor Centre, Berkeley Drive, PR5 6BY. Cuerden View Cafe open until 5pm.

We have had a fantastic day today for our last forest camp of the summer holidays. We made dens, played games, went down to the river, did some woodland crafts and had tasty campfire treats. The new snack of toasted ‘starburst’ was a great hit 😁😁
We also found an amazing deer skull which is now part of our camp.
We would like to thank our volunteers without whom we couldn’t run the day.
... Thank you to Simon, Bev and Ellen from Woodsage, you are all fantastic.
Thank you to the parents for supporting the park and we hope to see you in October

Great day today at our forest camp themed holiday club, 25 children joined us in the woods for a morning of games and den making, followed by campfire pizzas (yum) and an afternoon of river fun, looking for aquatic minbeasts and having a duck race. Great fun was had by all, thank you for your continued support.
Thanks as always go to our amazing volunteers and Simon from Woodsage.
See you next week

Three happy volunteers constructing a bench in front of the cafe. (You might notice that it has similar tyre and stone foundations to those of the visitor centre. Lol!)

User

What a fantastic day we had today on our over 10’s Forest camp day. Seventeen children joined us for a day of knife craft, fire making skills and preparing fresh trout and cooking it over the campfire. The children were all very focused and eager to learn. The second half of the day we were joined by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (Official) who showed the children around the fire engine showing them all the equipment on board. We then went down to the reservoir w...here they had a talk about water safety and had a practice at throwing the line out to a stranded swimmer (fireman). What a fantastic opportunity to develop some skills that could save a life in the future. Thank you to the fire service, our volunteers, Simon and Bev from woodsage and special thanks to Beckie from the Doing it for Dylan campaign. Check out the campaign on Facebook for more details.
Please provide feedback on this day and we will hopefully have another one soon.

Sorry for the short notice but for the children that attended the camp last Thursday the pictures are in tonight’s Lancashire evening post. It is a great article with fantastic pictures.

User

Despite the weather Our family forest adventure was a great success today. The children and parents enjoying making tree spirits, Hapa Zome, making twig picture frames, building dens and enjoying campfire s’mores, marshmallows and popcorn. Thank you for braving the weather to join us.

User

Yesterday we welcomed 24 children to the park for our ever popular forest camp day. The children all had an excellent day, making dens, cooking popcorn, playing games and using the soft crossbows. The time of reflection at the end is a very special time, putting the fire to bed and saying what they have enjoyed. Our thanks go to our amazing volunteers and Ellen and Simon at Woodsage 🌲🌲🌲

Anyone know this couple? Camera found @ Cuerden

User

Anyone fancy a spot of gardening in the Park this coming weekend?

User

This place is amazing my dogs and I love it , it so nice to come into a park and see right away that it is well looked after, the people you meet here in the park are very friendly. If I could give his park a 10 I would and them some.

User

This is such a beautiful park shared by so many different people:-

Dog walkers

Nordic walkers

Families

Cyclists

Fishermen and women

Young and old

There is open space, woods, river, lake, hills and pathways

There are car parks at many access routes and a £1 contribution towards the upkeep of the park per vehicle is fair

The park is also used for Farmers markets, music and beer festivals

A great asset to the area

User

New cafe... Fantastic and they do vegan cakes too.!!!

User

Lovely place to visit with something always on offer! The farmers markets are always good and this is a great way to support local people in business.

Great walk and beautiful views!

User

Lovely park as always. Wellies are definitely advised this time of year especially if walking through the wooded/sheltered areas (it's a mudfest) our dog and son had lots of fun and so many friendly owners/dogs around :)

We did notice a local dog walker with 4 dogs (1 on lead) who was too busy on her phone than the dogs and didn't notice one had left her a present as she was walking ahead

User

It's a lovely place and we're so lucky to have it on our doorstep. Just like my old favourite Witton Country Park in Blackburn it's a haven for diverse wildlife and rare flora and an oasis of beauty full of wild flowers, magnificent trees and landscapes, cheek by jowel with motorways and suburbs. You can forget all about the outside and there are walks of various lengths depending on the time you have, or the weather or energy. There are excellent facilities and much of interest to historians, wildlife fans or people who love all things botanical.

User

I've been coming to cuerden Valley Park for over 30 years...from a child to bringing my kids down used to fish with my grandfather who fished every season...watch the scrambling before the motorway was put through...love this place aways bring a picnic & a change of clothes for the boys as they spend hours in the stream...aways bring the dog with us to great place

User

I love the park however I feel that the price hike is too much. So many walk there or cycle and don't pay anything yet the car owner is having to pay double now for the day. Unfair.

User

Beautifully kept, yet natural park. Lovely staff and facilities!

User

Parked up when over this way for an interview and had a lovely cycle ride through the park then on following the Old Tramway route to the Ribble and Preston, and back. Well worth the £1 parking charge - would recommend! didn't notice any obvious signs to the office/ toilets, though: asked regular dogwalkers if there were any toilets, but they all said 'no' - although your post says otherwise. Will be good once Visitor Centre is open, well signed, and can provide local tourist info.

User

Good place for kids to run wild, and to walk the dog! Car parks at different parts, just £1 per day and no entrance fee. It is the remnants of private lands of the Townley family; the hall is now mainly the Sue Ryder home. There are picnic tables scattered about but toilets etc pretty none existant at present. There appears to be a new building going up - being built for an age it seems - which will be a conference centre and possibly cafe? Currently nowhere to buy a drink - the S.R. cafe was closed at the weekend we visited so take a flask if you intend staying any length of time. It is the home of the Lancashire branch of a nature protection society but nothing much in evidence this last Bank Holiday Monday. I did hear a couple say that the general maintenance of the park which is undertaken by volunteers is suffering because of the new building projects? I don't know, can't comment on that one, but I don't think you should ever knock volunteers anyway. We enjoyed it, we will go back.

User

Only been the once. Didn't think much of it having been round the little park at the bottom of Leyland Road at the bottom end of Lostock Hall and the adjoining St. Catherine's Park on Saturday. Maybe I didn't walk far enough in but I was there for an hour with my 2 month old son and there didn't seem to be a lot to look at. And the £1 for parking was a bit of a shock.

User

Lovely spot, but shame about inconsiderate dog owner who thought it was OK for a wet muddy doggy to jump up on me. No apology - I accept accidents can happen, but the dog owner didn't even acknowledge that there might be a problem. Shame, spoilt my walk. Maybe this place is too dog friendly for me. Lovely café though.

User

Love the park. Been exploring it for a good 20 years. Some parts need a good tidy up near back lane/ asda. Sometimes i think I'll volunteer to tidy some of it again so nobodys walking in road! but council moan about the mess and rangers dont maintain it. They both say it's not there job.Done a favour and been walked over. we pay council tax for them to give a quick wizz over the grass and leaving a mess when they cut it. So council need to step up and maintain that public footpath! Or rangers need to either all, they both say it's not there job.

User

I'm sure the parking used to be £1 for all day but I went yesterday and it's gone up. The parking should be free anyway. Astley park has free parking and yarrow valley park.

User

We went on the Spooky Walk last night with our two 9 year olds and we were so disappointed. The 'scary' stuff only covered a fraction of the walk, for most of it, there was nothing. Could have done so much more, using sound effects, props and characters. We would have happily paid more for something better. The cakes afterwards were delicious though!

User

been going to Cuerden park for years and never found it to be a problem with dogs we always pick up mess so do all good dog walker, its a shame some peaple think the park is only for chilren great place go and enjoy

They have just aquired the car park at clayton le woods church school to extort car parking fees from people dropping kids off at school underhand community rip off scheme

User

Parked at Wigan road car park the machine took my money but didn't give me a ticket. I rang the office and was told that 'he had been to the machine earlier but couldn't fix it. They took my reg so I wouldn't get a ticket. I used to pay quarterly but after this machine was out of order for about three months and everyone parked for free I stopped. I got my dogs and set off but was stopped by a convoy of park vehicles who said they would be closing the path to move sheep. Fair enough but put notices up!! I went back to my car only to find a notice on my windscreen saying my number had been noted as I had no valid ticket. This is not funny. I love this park and want to support it but this state of affairs cannot be allowed to continue. I'm not the only one fed up with this. If the machines don't work cover them up or fix them.
