About Dancesyndrome
DanceSyndrome is a multi-award winning inclusive dance charity based in Lancashire with a special focus on including everyone, regardless of ability.
We provide weekly inclusive dance workshops, leadership training and high quality performances.
Dancesyndrome Description
DanceSyndrome is an innovative North West based inclusive dance charity, led by people with learning disabilities.
Established in 2009, DanceSyndrome is the inspiration of founder and Director, Jen Blackwell, an aspiring community dance leader, who happens to have Down’s syndrome.
DanceSyndrome believes that everyone has the right to follow their own interests and passions – regardless of whether they have a disability or not; and exists to support Jen, and other dancers like her, who are learning disabled and want to lead and inspire others to share their love of dance through inclusive community workshops, dance leader training and performances.

Becky and Dawn had a great time meeting the fab folk at Henshaw's Arts and Crafts Centre and Jennyruth Workshops in Yorkshire. Thank you for inviting us to see your amazing workshops, we're so impressed.
Through September we're looking at #DanceSyndrome5Years history from 2015. This was a really great year for us for lots of reasons that we'll share over the next month, but not least because we added 3 new workshops in this year, starting with our Chorley workshop, which still runs today.
DanceSyndrome Managing Director Dawn Vickers has been nominated for an #EVA2018! Please can we ask you to vote for her to win the Business Woman Award on the following link?

Dawn has been the driving force behind DS since 2014, making a huge impact on the direction of the charity, partly due to her great business mind but mainly because she's a wonderful, caring lady! We're sure if you know her you will think she deserves to win the Business Woman Award at #EVAS2018!

Throughout August #DanceSyndrome5Years is looking back on #2014. Can you remember what you were dancing to in 2014?
Of course our dancers were dancing to all kinds of different music, but the big popular song of the year was Uptown Funk.
Hands up if you've had a bit of a dance to this one!
Another key member of our team who joined in 2014 is David Darcy, a talented performer who came to us through our connection with UCLan. David is a professional Dance Artist and choreographer with a real skill for pushing the dancers to go beyond their own expectations; he has made a significant impact on our performance team over the last few years. #DanceSyndrome5Years

2014 was an important year in #DanceSyndrome5Years history. Dawn Vickers joined us as Managing Director and her passion and drive has helped us to achieve more than we could have hoped for! Here she blogs about her life with DS.
Thanks to Learning Disability Today for this article about Dawn's award nomination!

This video shows a performance from late 2014 at UCLan. This was when "Confinement" was first developed. Over the years, this has been continuously developed and refined and has gone on to become one of our most successful performance pieces, being performed at several high profile events, including as part of our 2017 Edinburgh Fringe performance. #DanceSyndrome5Years
If you've been following #DanceSyndrome5Years, you will know that those early years of our charity have been fundamental to our later successes. 2014 was a particularly important year because DanceSyndrome got a new Managing Director.
Dawn Vickers has been the driving force behind DanceSyndrome for 4 years now and has had a huge impact on the direction the charity has taken, in part due to her great business mind and success at generating funding, but mainly because she is a... wonderful, caring person.
Dawn is an ambassador for inclusion and works hard to help people overcome any barriers they face. She has real talent for putting people at ease, improving their confidence and aspirations and making dreams come true!
We are so grateful to work with Dawn, and we are very proud that she has been nominated for the 2018 Business Woman of the Year EVA Award. We are certain that if you know Dawn you will think she deserves to win this, so please could we ask you to vote for her on the following link?

When attending the EMA Awards, the last thing I expected was to be stunned by a group of disabled dancers. After performing myself and witnessing performances quite regularly, never have I been so captivated by a dance/physical theatre act before... It brought me to tears, and I've never cried through happiness before. Thank-you for being guys! <3
So glad I was at the Women's Business Networking event at Dante's last night. Really inspirational meeting Jen and her mum and being led in a dance routine by Jen! Happy to spread the word about this fantastic charity.
