Stunning, just stunning. Exquisitely delicious scenery, a stunning aroma of essence and beauty throughout. Would highly recommend! Oh and the short member of staff, Carl - who dealt with us, was punctual well mannered and extraordinarily welcoming. 5* - A Hotel with a warm ambiance, an experience not to be missed and views to die for!

Myself and 2 friends stayed here last night. Gorgeous hotel and the room we stayed in was lovely. The food could have been a bit better though as my friend ordered the platter with a selection of cheese, it came with grated cheese! Asked where the selection was and it came back with a smaller pile of grated cheese and 2 other cheeses. Also was supposed to be a selection of ham, she got 2 slices of ham. Paninis could have been better Also! However, the breakfast... Gorgeous! Buffet breakfast and was beautiful! I would stay here again, just probably have food elsewhere

Lovely hotel, peaceful location, clean and a great nights sleep. Little issues such as shower as knob fell off causing the shower to take longer to start or go off and causing it to stop/start during showering, little issues walking around the hotel gardens down to the water full of doggie bags and spilling upon the floor, which didn’t look nice also little tidy ups in the garden would help. But overall the hotel was clean and I slept great! Dealing with these issues would definitely bring the room up-to a 5!

I always loved this hotel as I lived in Portinscale as a child. I still love to go and have coffee or a meal there but some parts really need refurbishment as it's looking tired in places. It is situated in a beautiful area of the lakes and staff are very friendly. Hoping next time I visit my birth place it will have had a little paint lift

Hotel was a bit dated, however, the staff couldn’t have been friendlier. Fantastic location looking over the lake and the Keswick launch around the lake was only 10 minutes walk away. Very dog friendly which may also be why it hasn’t been updated, but still a bonus if you want to take your best friend with you on holiday 😁

Beautiful grounds and surrounding area. Staff we’re polite and friendly. The food was lovely. We stayed in a two bedroom apartment; it was clean and had everything we needed but was in desperate need of an update. On the whole we enjoyed our stay.

User

Very friendly staff and we were greeted with a smile which is a bonus :) rooms are nice and clean with the views being amazing. The bathroom was a little out dated but to be honest that wasn't an issue as it was clean. The location was great and it's only a small walk away from the lake :) would 100 % go back in the future.

The promotional video doesn't,t reflect what it is like, very tired could do with an upgrade, food was great however it was hard to get a smile from some of the staff, this though is bearable when you see the stunning surroundings of the Lake District and all in all a very enjoyable experience

Stayed here last month for 4 days. The room was large but shabby. There was a hole in the duvet cover, stains on the carpet and the curtains were hanging off and dont even get me started on the bathroom!! At the time of booking I did ask the average age range of clients and was told there were all ages. I strongly feel this was not entirely true as we must have brought the average age down somewhat. Oh, and don't bother asking for a packed lunch as it seems you have to order it at an optimum time or you can't have one. Saying this the bar and restaurant staff were fantastic so that's why it's 3 stars and not just 2.

Nice staff and lovely breakfast , but hotel very run down could do with decorating . Sky lights in Restaurant were thick of cob webs and dirt . A real shame as the hotel is in lovely ground but seems as if its just been left to go to wreck and ruin . Thought it a bit cheeky after paying hotel bill to find we had been charged to park in car park for 2 nights , where else could we park ?

User

Needs a refurbishment sadly and is overpriced . Everything is chargeable even the view ! Disappointed as this was a return visit ! My room was expensive and shabby with wallpaper hanging off and missing paint and not very clean particularly in the shower ! The walks and views are stunning but that’s all sadly ! The receptionist was actually quite rude and not very approachable . Really not very impressed and very disappointed!

User

Lovely view from hotel but was not happy with the receptionist who was aloof towards rude. The room that I booked had maintenance issue & was given one with a view of walls. Was attended to by young manager who gave me a much better room. Besides that, waiters/waitress at breakfast also had attitude problem. Otherwise, had a good time as hotel is dog friendly.

Stayed two nights, the first night was ok apart from the herd of elephants upstairs and a presence of black mould in the bathroom, we did not dine in the hotel this night.

The second night, after a day on the fells was terrible, we ate in the conservatory and my food came complete with curly black hair!! The barmaid was on her own and under pressure so all around us people were getting the wrong course or the wrong dish.

Was glad when we went out to the local pub !!

Never again, sorry but really disappointed

Stayed for 2 nights. Never stayed at this hotel oreviously. Room was said to be premium but in our opinion it was very standard. We slept extremely well as the hotel was beautifully quiet all night. We had dinner in the restaurant on both evenings and wished we hadn't. The food was acceptable but on the second night the head waiter announced that he could not put our wine on the room bill as our card (given to us by the receptionist and signed) was not authorised. He made quite a fuss about this when I said that we had used it the previous evening. Fellow diners were all listening to this so it was quite embarrassing. Then the waiter brought the wrong main course for my husband who said it was ok he would have it anyway. Half way through eating this meal the head waiter came wit the correct one and quite rudely whisked away with it into the kitchen. We waited a very very long time for our desserts, so much so that people on the next table said they hoped we weren't still sitting there at breakfast time! When my dessert came (brought by our head waiter) it looked as though the cream had been deliberely squashed down. The rest of the staff were lovely and the cooked items at breakfast were extremely good. Perhaps we were unfortunate and the head waiter (don't know his name) was in a bad mood. However it is unlikely we will stay there again and we do visit The Lakes frequently. Never had to complain before.

User

Room very basic and no way justifies the price. Booked a table for evening meal my meal arrived cold and was exchanged for a steak that I could have soled my boots with (medium rare) no were near. The hotel did not charge us for the main course. Sorry but will not be back

User

Worst cream teas ever, dirty scratched black plates, tiny scones, cold weak tea my friend had to stand and wait 10 mins for the barman to make it then she struggled to open the door with 2 plates in her hand while he stood behind the bar! At £5.75 it was a rip off. My company and the view were the only good thing about the place.

Review of The Derwentwater Hotel

My wife and I received this stay as an anniversary gift. We were looking forward to it and as soon as we pulled up at the hotel our excitement soon changed. We pulled up to what looked like a street of houses, nothing like the picture. After waiting for 20 minutes outside to book in we were extremely shocked by the rudeness of the staff. We were told to book our evening meal due to a large party coming later but it seemed more of a chore to her than anything. We proceeded to go to our room when we finally got there after waiting what seemed forever in the que for the lift we were shocked to find out door open. Not only open the locked was what looked like smashed, it did not work it looked like some one had went in with a crowbar. I looked around the room checked the lock which looked like it had been no nailed and refused o stay a moment longer. My ire and I went down to reception to ask to speak to the manager.

, we were told he would be a few minutes if we would wait in the bar. 10 minutes past then 20 so I went to see where he was and was told would be another few minutes, another 10 minutes past and I started to get agitated so I went again to look for him. My wife was also getting agitated as it was wasting time on our anniversary break. I then bumped into a hot, sweaty assistant manager who was quite rude to myself and said, I will be with you when I can I cannot leave these women can I? I was shocked and upset to be spoke to how I was. Another 15 minutes and the assistant manager came down. We explained to him about he lock so he came up and looked and admitted someone had locked the keys in the room that’s why the lock was like that. As there were no rooms left we were took over the road to the apartments where my wife and I excepted the change of room. We were happy to have a small house to our selves and continued with our stay. We looked about and was shocked to see how dirty the place was but because of the long wait and knowing there was not others rooms we decided to make the most of our situation. At dinner time we went down to the restaurant after finding it and were told to be waited to be seated......there were 2 waiting staff doing nothing and a handful of people, the restaurant looked like it was closing. We were them took to w table right near the front door and asked if we could move but were told no as the tables were not set and they would not set them as they were closing. We were not offered a drink and were...

I paid an advanced £50 on my credit card and although the women behind the desk said it would be taken off the final bill it hasn't. I have been trying to ring up to sort this out but nobody will answer the phone. I even left a message for a ring back and nobody has rung back.
