About Doctorate In Clinical Psychology At Lancaster University

Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme at Lancaster University, Lancashire, United Kingdom

Doctorate In Clinical Psychology At Lancaster University Description

The Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme is a three-year full-time programme which leads to eligibility to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and for Chartered status with the British Psychological Society (BPS). Trainees work as trainee clinical psychologists (band 6) in the NHS with study time for on-campus teaching and individual research.

As part of ethos on the Lancaster University DClinPsy course, we are trying to widen participation amongst our prospective trainees. We would like Lancaster to be accessible to everyone, people from diverse backgrounds with a broad range of individual experiences! We would like to gain peoples’ interest who may not have considered psychology as a career path or who might like a change in direction, as well as those who are experienced in this area already.

We hope this page will be used to promote interesting information, facilitate lively discussions, and allow you to talk to one another about what becoming a clinical psychologist is all about. Please feel free to post anything you think may be of interest and invite others whom you feel may like to be involved!

Thanks to everyone who came along to our post graduation celebration and our unveiling of the artwork created in memory of Dr Julie Davies.
Julie is deeply missed within her cohort, on the programme, and of course by her family who we were delighted to host as they collected her doctorate during the graduation ceremony.
Congratulations to all of our new Clinical Psychologists!

In 2016 Joanna Cheng, a trainee on the Lancaster University Clinical Psychology Training Programme carried out some service-related research which found that people with learning disabilities often don’t understand what a psychologist does. This was true even if they had seen a psychologist. To help with this Jo and Ian Smith from the programme team produced an easy-read guide explaining what psychologists do, which the British Psychological Society published in 2017 (it’s free from their website). The guide has since been translated into four other languages.
Now, with funding from our host NHS Trust Lancashire Care and the help of local psychologists, service users, and a community development project we have made a short animated film based on the booklet. It’s free for anyone in to use.

Autumn Dates for Aspiring Clinical Psychologists
Bookings are now being taken for the latest LUPTA (Lancaster University Psychological Training Academy) events, developed for undergraduate or graduate level psychologists who are considering a career in clinical psychology. They are run by clinical tutors from the Lancaster Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and external colleagues. The aim is to make them really practical, accessible and enjoyable days, giving a good feel for how to apply psychological approaches in the real world, including case study work, practical exercises, lots of clinical examples, and a chance to chat informally about clinical psychology as a job, training and course selection processes.
