The team at Don Giovanni would like to thank the people of Manchester for their kind messages of support following yesterday’s fire incident. We’d also like to thank Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) & Greater Manchester Police for their heroic actions whilst containing and resolving the fire.
From every negative situation, we do out best to seek out the positives. We’re happy to have been able to give our perishable food items to local charity FareShare Gre...ater Manchester, who redistribute to those in need.
The fire damage is worse than we originally expected so unfortunately, we are having to close the restaurant for at least 4 weeks.
We offer our apologies to all our valued customers who had bookings during this period. We are accommodating as many of the bookings as we can at our sister site Cibomcr on Liverpool Road and will be running a supplementary menu where a lot of dishes from Don Giovanni will be added and available from today.
We promise to keep everyone updated on an exact opening date.

We visited last night (19th May) as a party of 10 to celebrate my dads 70th. Amazing food and service as always, staff attentive and all meals were delicious. We had a great table and the atmosphere was just lovely. Can't think of anywhere better we could've chosen for a special celebration!

It was the first time my parents have visited and they were thrilled.. Till the next time!!

I had an amazing Mother’s Day Meal. The aubergine lasagna starter was cooked to perfection, grilled chicken and gnocchi with green bean and sundried tomatoes was sublime and the sticky toffee pudding was heavenly. It was my first visit to Don Giovannis and the service , food and ambiance was one of the best on Manchester.....this may well be my favourite Italian.

User

Had the pre theatre menu 3 course menu food lovely but portions on the small side but dessert tiramisu highly recommended. Lovely atmosphere fantastic service

User

Another really nice meal at Don Giovanni's. Went for the Valentines menu which was a good choice. Lobster salad, crab ravioli, seafood linguini were all very good indeed. Restaurant setting is nice too but maybe the tables for 2 are a little close together as we could hear every word of our neighbours conversations.

User

Amazing food..

Went for lunch before Miss Saigon

Had the Seafood platter..which consisted of Half lobster, salmon fillet , monkfish fillet, clams, mussels, langustines and King prawns in a rich tomato sauce

Always have a lovely time at this restaurant. Gorgeous food & amazing service. Everyone who tended to us was lovely especially Valerie. I always go for a fish pasta dish, this time I had the crab ravioli & it was very tasty. My favourite dishes are the lobster ravioli & the squid ink pasta. I would definitely recommend xxx

User

Absolutely perfect .. staff very attentive .. quick and easy , nothing was too much for them .. shall make this place a regular

User

Absolutely gorgeous meal was beautiful staff so lovely and welcoming. The creme brûlée was to die for thank you x

User

Went to the Manchester restaurant before the theatre. Although absolutely fine, we were left very underwhelmed by the experience and wouldn't go again.

The restaurant was lovely and spacious but all the diners were packed into one tiny area with no space between the tables or to put our shopping. The Caprese salad was ok but the top of the mozzarella had started to go chewy where is had been left under the lights too long, it was far too salty and there was literally one tiny basil leaf on it. The lobster ravioli was delicious but too small a portion.

The waiters were friendly but service was slow, and there was just no atmosphere at all.

User

Me and my family came here after my graduation ceremony for a meal. All in all the food was lovely. Unfortunately, the service wasn’t great. After our starters we waited for 20 minutes for someone to take our plates, this was when we prompted them to. We then waited approximately half an hour for our mains to come. I politely asked a waitress how long our food would be and was asked ‘are you in a rush or something?’ This took me by surprise as having waited so long for our food I wouldn’t expect to be spoken to so rude. Nobody came round to ask us if everything was okay. All and in all I couldn’t fault the food, it’s a shame the service let it down for a restaurant which has the potential to be excellent.

User

Food was 😊 lovely, as were the drinks , the problem was we had booked for 8.30 but we were asked to wait at the bar area for our table , we had to wait a good half an hour before we were seated . We didn't taste our staters until 9.40 which I thought was poor . I understand it's busy but it seemed that they were trying to cram as many people in as possible which by doing so took the shine off the experience . The waiters were some what surly too, professional but lacking warmth .

User

Been tonight for pre theatre dinner , first ordered a sparkling rose which was just an ordinary rose when brought to the table. The pate was tasteless and the toast was so hard even my knife cudnt cut it. We ordered fries as a side but they never arrived until we reminded staff we ordered them so they came well after our mains and not even a sorry for the delay was mentioned . The main Lasagna was nice as was the desert although not much to choose from . Would we go again no .

User

Attended yesterday 10th April 2018 before our trip to Miss Saigon. We hadn’t booked but there was ample space. The lady who showed us to our table was lovely and allowed us to choose from the special menu even though it had just gone 3pm. The starters a garlic bread with cheese, salad and calamari were beautiful. Gin cocktail was very tasty and the bar man fussed over us. The main courses arrived after not too long a wait. Salmon pasta, lobster pasta and my steak ... the fries and extra veg took another 10 minutes to arrive which wasn’t good. The steak was cold by then! But all the food was presented well and tasted great. All the staff were lovely except one. I found him (an older grey haired gentleman) to be very abrupt, quite rude, he was banging dishes and very monosyllabic. I’m hoping he was just having a bad day, we’ve all had them. We left before ordering dessert as he was making me feel on edge and having a meal out is supposed to be a relaxing experience. It was a great shame as I would have loved more cocktails, coffees and a dessert. I’d think about going back again but with the massive choice of restaurants in the area it may not be soon.

User

We were concerned that the cheese on started and main was not Vegan as ordered, as the person who ate it had a re action to it. E mailed restaurant and got a phone call to say it definitely was Vegan cheese.

Also there is an Optional 10% Service Charge which I missed on bill ( going to theatre so was in a rush) I did however add 10% myself!! Making the tip 20% the service wasn’t that good!!!

Still waiting for a reply from e mail sent on 2nd April, just rude not to reply.

User

We booked for a table of 7 a few week ago. We went to the restaurant yesterday as a group of 6 as a friend couldn't make it. We waited at the door between 10 to 15 minutes without being greeted or acknowledged by anyone. There was a lady at the podium sorting out someones bill, but as it wasn't that busy I would've thought another member of staff would've come to us.

Anyway, after 10-15 minutes another lady came up to us and asked for my name under which it was booked, no apology for the wait. She immediately told me as it's 7 people so we're not eligible for the offer. I asked her what offer she was referring to, she said '50% off' . I said we are a group of 6, and then she said 'oh you booked on the phone, not online,so you're still not eligible.' I didn't mind that we were not eligible for it, as we didn't know about it nor expect to redeem this offer, but this lady's approach was unfriendly and stern.

We got to our table, the atmosphere was lovely, and the ambience was equally as good.

The main that was a concern to us was that, at the time of ordering our food, I asked what was halal. The server told us that all the meat and poultry was halal. I then preceded to tell her that, at the time of booking, the manager on the phone told me that only the Beef Steak and Chicken was, not the lamb. I just wanted to double check again which is why i asked. I am shocked and concerned that dietary information like this, isn't communicated between staff. It should not be overlooked regardless of any type of diet. I don't think they realised how much of an issue it can be for people who take their dietary requirements seriously. I found her response rather rude when I also asked if alcohol is added to certain dishes. Her body language came across as if we were inconvenience to her. Luckily a senior member of staff was at hand and said not to worry and he will make sure that no alcohol is added to our meals.

Our meals arrived and they were tasty. Presentation and quantity was perfect. You do have to order the sides separately as it doesn't come with veg or salad. The price was also reasonable.

After a bit of a long wait we recieved our Mocktails which were hit and miss. 3 of us got 'Happy Days' and all three of them tasted different. They were happy for to change or ammend .

Finally to request our bill it again took a while . I found that we did spend a lot of time waiting around, either to order or to receive our meals etc. We were waiting for our change after we paid the bill and nobody cane back so we left. We would've liked the choice to have tipped as opposed to being forced to do so as nobody came back with change.

Anyway, although the food was delicious. I found that service was really poor. I hope things improve, but I don't think we will be returning.

User

My friend and I went for an early dinner before attending the theatre. It started off well, friendly and attentive staff and the 1st course was to die for, but then we waited an hour for our main course! When it arrived, my friend had 3 pieces of lobster ravioli on her plate with some sauce nothing else. Even with a small appetite she was still hungry, but we didn't have time for a sweet as planned. The actual food we did eat, although baby portions, was of a high quality and well presented. I asked for the optional service charge to be removed and explained why and this was done without question after asking if we asked for small portions which I said we did not. We were sadly disappointed and hope this is not a regular situation.

User

Went out for good Friday. We booked for 7pm. Got told you go to the bar. We don't drink but the bartenders seemed disappointed about that. Was a nice setting and service was good. Food took too long though and the quality wasn't fantastic either. Won't be going again as my and the husband fell sick the next few days after.

User

We went for a meal for a late valentine’s meal. It was a Saturday but we have been on a Saturday plenty times. Obviously we knew it was going to be quite busy. We were taken to our table by an abrupt waiter and he shoved our menus into our faces. Came back and took our food order. I did ask if they had gluten free bread for the patè and he was again very abrupt and just said ‘no’. Which I think is ridiculous, restaurants should have gluten free bread available. It’s not like it takes up much room! So I ordered gluten free pasta for my main (which I have had before). When it came, it was terribly undercooked. So I politely asked told the waiter. His reply was not expected. He said ‘you’ve ordered gluten free pasta, it should be hard, that’s how it’s cooked’. I replied no it’s not, I’ve had it before and many times at home, pasta is not hard nor crispy as that means it undercooked. My boyfriend had to say something as he was getting annoyed. He said, excuse me she’s telling you it’s undercooked, please take it away. So he grabbed it from infront of me and stormed off it with it. When it came back he stood over my shoulder watching me eat it. It was cooked the second time. When we were leaving I said to the front of house we are disappointed with the service, her reply ‘well it is a Saturday and we are busy’. Which is an outrageous reply. I don’t care if it’s busy, your staff should not be rude. Will not be returning!

We attended here for a special family meal on 16th March and it was a complete farcical shambles. (Apologies for the late review I have been off fb for lent.) They forgot my brother’s meal completely and burnt all of the steaks - apparently the reason was due to them having a ‘new grill’ and we should’ve asked for the steaks to be cooked on the ‘old grill.’ (?) My sister in law’s steak was burnt so badly it was inedible. My brother and sister in law had to sit there with no meal, and the rest of us reluctantly then had to start eating ours as it was already Luke warm when it was served. The two of them ended up with no main course. It was my brother’s birthday and my partners birthday and it was ruined. What made it worse was the poor attitude and pathetic response of the manager. We were offered a very small reduction off the bill and not charged for the meals which were not served - like wow, thanks. She couldn’t have cared less. To cut a long story short, we paid a fortune for a terrible meal and we will not be returning again. How a group booking of 8 people could cause such a problem especially when 2 were children astounds me. My father has already posted on your wall about this and emailed you as requested - we are still awaiting the response so it’s obvious that you try to make it look on social media as though you care about your customers.

Absolutely gorgeous meal was beautiful staff so lovely and welcoming. The creme brûlée was to die for thank you x
