It must be horrifying to first find out that your child is struggling with their mental health to the point that they are self-harming. More and more younger children are feeling the pressure at school and struggling with managing their emotions. "When we discovered, via a phone call from school, that our friendly, happy and caring,12 year old daughter had self harmed our world imploded. As a family we talked about everything and genuinely believed, as parents, that we were doing the best we could for our children. Annie had always been described as our 'angel', nothing ever seemed to bother her, but as it turned out today's pressures of growing up really were getting to her and she did not have the knowledge and resilience of how to deal with these pressures.
After extreme difficulty finding a counsellor for Annie, Jennifer, you very kindly offered your services as a trial to see if you were the right person for Annie. From the minute I met you, I knew you were the right person and can't express enough my gratitude for all you have done for her. You have helped her recognise, herself, the issues affecting her and given her strategies how to deal with situations when they arise. This was a gradual process through weekly consultations which you reduced on an agreed individual pace, increasing contact when Annie felt she wasn't coping. I loved that your consultations were age appropriate, especially as Annie is quite mature for a 12 year old and felt reassured that confidentiality was maintained between you and Annie, but if there were safeguarding concerns you would discuss them with me.
Annie has now grown into a more confident, self assured young lady with your assistance. She still has issues, but confidently uses her learned strategies to deal with them.
In the nicest possible way, I hope we don't require your services in the future, but should anyone within our family or friends require psychologist and/or counselling services you will always come highly recommended.

Meditation is a great way of giving yourself the time you need and deserve to wind down and reflect, helping you to manage negative emotion in a healthy and accepting way.
Here at the clinic there are several meditation classes which run regularly so that you can access meditation via the guidance of a teacher. Learn different meditations and take them home to bring them into your life as and when you need to.
Tuesday evenings at 7pm - One Heart Meditation & Healing Group (...1hr 30 mins) £10
Every other Wednesday at 1pm - Meditation for Mums Class (1hr) £6
Two Sundays a month - Chakra Meditation Class (1 hr) £6

AN EASY AND EFFECTIVE ANXIETY REDUCING TECHNIQUE

Something for you to try... Most people hate anxiety if they have it. And that is part of the problem. Try the absolute opposite using this technique and you may find the results astounding.
... Using a bit of imagination, close your eyes when you start to feel anxious. Imagine being sat at home and all of a sudden you hear a knock at the door. You go to answer the door and there stands a light coloured silhouette of a person. You invite them in, welcome them and sit them down whilst making them a cup of tea. Whilst you are waiting for the kettle to boil, you make small talk. Ask them if they are okay and tell them you understand why they have come. After the tea has been drunk you send them on their way, thank them for coming and tell them they can come again if they need to. Now let the image fade out, open your eyes. Notice how you feel and get on with your day. Keep practising!
