About Educating Elford - Howard Primary Classroom Appeal

We are a local community raising money for a new classroom in our village school.

Educating Elford - Howard Primary Classroom Appeal Description

We are fundraising to provide our local village school with a new classroom.
Since joining The Small Schools Multi Academy Trust, The Howard Primary School in Elford are excited to report an increase in pupil numbers. For the first time in years the school has met its published admission number for its Reception intake and over for the past 12 months have also welcomed a number of pupils throughout the other year groups.
Whilst still relatively small the indication is that the number on the roll will increase over the coming years. This will result in a shortage of classroom space and in order to eliminate the need to teach 3 year groups within one classroom additional space is required.
In order to strengthen the school we would increase the published admission number from 12 to 15. The increased financial resource that this would generate would be used for the benefit of all children.
The plan is to build a further two rooms and toileting facilities, the first room to be used as a classroom and the second to be used as a multifunctional space which could provide facilities for nursery aged children, before and after school club, intervention groups etc.
Any donation would be gratefully received and every penny gets us closer to our goal.
Thank you very much

After another school year we have made some great progress with our ongoing classroom project. The plans have been submitted to the council and we are hoping to hear back with a decision in early-mid September (fingers crossed). Once the plans are hopefully approved this will enable us to push on with the next phase of the project and enable us to go out to tender so we can get a more accurate figure for the cost of the project and the planning decision will also allow us to ...apply for bigger funding/grants which are available to us. As this project progresses they will be regular updates on a more accurate total cost and any funding we are awarded.
The total amount raised so far is approximately £45,000, this is great amount and with a contribution from the school as well we are well on the way to getting towards the goal. Although the majority of the funds raised by The Friends is going towards the classroom there has been some money spent on the children who are currently attending the school- this includes leavers hoodies for all year 6 children, the transport for the whole school to the theatre and a few other smaller things. We are trying to find the tricky balance of raising funds for the classroom as quickly as possible but also improving resources for the current children attending the school.
The Friends of Howard would like to thank everyone you has supported us again this year by helping with events or attending them.
Our next event will be held at the Walled Gardens on 8th September - the Tour De Elford cycle ride will be taking place during the day and an evening event will include a band, Food and a bar provided Gary and Olivia from The Crown. Tickets are just £5 each or £15 for a family of 4. If anyone would like tickets please contact me.

The Friends of Howard Primary School will be holding the annual AGM on Tuesday 10th October in the school hall. The evening will start at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. There will first be a presentation informing everyone of the current situation of the new classroom project – costs, time frames etc. we invite anyone who would like to hear about the project to join us as this will be the opportunity to ask any questions or raise any queries. After this (approx. 8pm) the parents will hold the AGM as normal. Please comment below if you are planning to attend so we make sure we have enough seating.

Classroom Appeal update -Staff, children and parents of The Howard School would like to thank the people of Elford and everyone who has supported us over this year so far. We are overwhelmed by the generosity shown us. Various options for this new teaching space continue to be developed and researched therefore an overall target to be raised is still unknown however fundraising in earnest continues and we are thrilled to announce we have so far reached £15,000! An annual goal has been set of £20,000 which we hope to reach by the end of the year. Once again thank you to everyone for your incredible support.
