Went today for afternoon tea with my partner at 1 pm purchased via groupon.

Can’t fault it. The staff (lady on reception and two guys serving the food and sorting our order out) were lovely, helpful, friendly & couldn’t do enough.

I love the building - some people have complained but if anything I just think it’s a bit shabby chic! We sat in the conservatory which had a really relaxing atmosphere.

The afternoon tea was just enough without being over bearing. It was tasty, fresh & the scones were the highlight- still warm and seemed home made.

I would definitely recommend if people could get the Groupon deal and I would visit again for other occasions!

Just want to say a massive thank you for all your help and support with our wedding on the 05/05/18 we had an amazing day.

Your staff were great nothing was to much trouble a big thank you to Neil who looked after us the day before and on the actual day he was amazing, I had a moment before he took us down and he was really supportive and calmed me down so big thank you to him.

Sally and Lucas thank you for all your help in the build up to the day really made the process easy and stress free fantastic customer service.

We are so happy that we chose Etrop to get married in all our guest loved the venue and the weather helped so they could relax in the garden instead of inside.

Thank you again for everything you really made our day very special cant thank you enough.

Just been for afternoon tea with my family and partner for my birthday and loved every minute! Food was amazing and staff were wonderful (waiter had a great sense of humour)...looking forward to our wedding here next year more and more each time we visit! Thanks again!

I stayed here overnight prior to flying from Manchester airport. I stayed on my own with 3 large bike boxes and a suitcase. The staff were all so lovely and could not have done anymore for me. They made my stay very comfortable and stress free. They arranged and provided a taxi bus for me and all my large luggage. And to top it off the taxi driver was so pleasant and assisted me so much with all my luggage. I would definitely stay here again.

Had afternoon tea today at 2pm, There were 6 of us, booked via groupon. Had a lovely time, very friendly welcoming staff and lovely sandwiches and cakes, will definitely return and will recommend to others, thanks again.

User

Couldnt really give it less than 5. I got married here on the 25th of may and the whole day was amazing but even on the run up staff and management were great anything we asked for or questioned was dealt with the whole team from cleaners to bar staff to our organisers nothing was to much trouble. We wouldnt change a thing from the day we booked till the day arrived we made the right decision. Sally went above and beyond to make our day special and she succeded. Sally to you and your team we thank you and we will see you soon.

Stayed at this hotel several times over the years arch time with a new owner it seems.. stayed 9th July before flight away... yes the hotel needs updating. Yes the air con is broke that’s not down to the staff, who have been nothing more than pleasant and lovely,, the guys that take you to airport and back are simply the best.... maybe if they brought prices down in restaurant it would be busier

User

6 of us have just come back from this hotel and the service we received from start to finish was fantastic, the staff were friendly, chatty and accommodating, doors were opened for you and the food was lovely, huge choice for breakfast, rooms immaculately clean, oldy worldy and they are updating but we loved it,will definitely be coming back, ideal for the airport too

User

First time . But probably last one cup had a split right down the middle when asked for a new one all they did was swap it from our table to another. Sandwich was basic And scones were toasted .coffee was cold after one cup

User

Bought a Groupon voucher for champagne afternoon tea which has become a regular sister activity when one of us has a birthday (so three times a year). The sandwiches and cakes were lovely but the ‘champagne’ was cheap sparkling wine at best. Shouldn’t really advertise a champagne afternoon tea if you’re not going to serve champagne. Left a little disappointed so probably won’t be back. Shame as the actual hotel was nice and staff were friendly.

User

We had afternoon tea on Saturday and were disappointed with the service we received.A blonde receptionist sharply told us to sit in conservatory where we waited 30 mins before anyone came out to see us. The receptionist hadn't told the waiter we had arrived and she wasn't the most friendly receptionist we've come across.

It also looked like one person was waiting on and running the bar. There was Mustard on the ham sandwiches which is not to everyone taste. On previous afternoon tea visits to other establisments we have been made aware of whats on the menu and given the opportunity to say if there's anything you don't like or allergic to. We skipped tea and coffee as we had champagne when the food was brought out to us.The sandwiches seemed made up that morning and refrigerated. We had Etrop Grange on our list of venues to consider when we get married but will be looking at alternatives.

This place should come with a warning! Seniors beware! Now I know that it rarely gets hot in England, but it would have been nice to open more than 1 tiny window in our second floor room with temps at 80 and above. The rest were painted shut. There was what appeared to be an aircon unit above the door, but no way to turn it on. After walking through a maze of corridors and fire doors at midnight we were too tired to walk all the way back to reception. The bathtub was a nightmare! How you expect anyone of retirement age to get in and out is beyond me. It took 5 minutes to figure out how I was going to get in and several muscle spasms later I was having a shower. I read in a response to a review that you were doing a soft makeover in March. It needs more work as it is shabby upon entry. On the upside staff were very friendly and helpful.

User

My friends & I recently made use of a Groupon voucher for afternoon tea with champagne for 4 on 24th March @ 1pm. There were only 3 of us visiting, the 4th person was unable to attend due to being unwell.

At the reception we were charged £2.50 to park for which there was no mention of on the voucher or when I booked to reserve a table for our visit.

Upon arriving at the dining area there was no available tables for 4, I find this a little confusing as we had pre booked?

We waited a short while to be seated & eventually was seated at a table for two in a corner with an additional chair added, which was a little cramped, we would not have been able to wait any longer for a table due to the fact we had other events booked for later that afternoon.

I had advised upon booking that 1 of our party was vegetarian & when we were served our afternoon tea with drinks, we were not given any details of the sandwiches or cakes being served to us, neither were we approached by a member of staff at any time after being served to check if we were happy with everything. We did however call one of the waiting staff over after about an hour to request more coffee & water.

What should have been a relaxing afternoon catching up with friends was a little spoilt by the lack of preparation of a table for our booking & the cramped seating we were given, we feel that although we only paid £32 for the voucher this should not have been at a consequence the service received.

To add insult to injury, after me leaving this same review on Trip Advisor, Sally the Manager only offered me free parking next time we visit, she made no mention of the lack of poor service we received or our concerns about the vegetarian option we had ordered!

If I am honest I was a little offended by the gesture of a waived parking fee if/when I/we return. We appreciate the other hotels in the area may charge a parking fee, but Sally had not explained why we were not made aware of this when making our booking, neither did she address the quality of the service we recieved.

Nor why our table for four was not available when we had pre booked it.

As I had previously explained earlier in my review, a member of our group was vegetarian & all the food was served on one tiered tray with meat/ cheese / egg, we were left to work out for ourselves, which is morally wrong. It also left my friend feeling a little awkward & uncomfortable.

Would the same principal be applied to someone who had a food intolerance or allergy?

I asked for Sally to contact me to discuss further......suprise surprise, I have had no response!

I took my mum for afternoon tea last Sunday for Mother's Day. The ham sandwiches were caked so much in mustard that it made them inedible, even after scraping off as much as we could (our plates were covered in it). We weren't asked if everything was ok and it was obvious that we weren't able to eat them. There was a raspberry on one of the deserts which had mould on it. The 'champagne' tasted like Lambrini, and was definitely not champagne. The place is in need of redecorating - the walls are all chipped and scuffed and the seats were covered in stains. Would not recommend.

User

I recently stayed for one night. The staff were very nice, extremely helpful, excellent collection and drop off service and the food was excellent. However, the hotel looks very tired and needs attention. The air con doesn’t work in the rooms and the bathroom was not very pleasant.

The prices for food and drinks is expensive considering the state of the accommodation.

I would stay again if they updated the accommodation and other areas, but otherwise I wont be staying again.

User

We stayed here as we had to get up early for a flight the next morning. There was a wedding on and a disco until 2am - we had to get up at 4.30. We were put in a room right above the disco. In my opinion they shouldn't sell rooms to non wedding guests when there is a function on. I wouldn't reccomend this place to anyone.

User

We have just checked into this shambles of a hotel. The bed linen is absolutely filfthy. We have paid a fortune to be shown into a cupboard which is allegedly a bedroom.

I spent 20 mins trying to contact reception about this, the receptionist didn't answer the phone however when i contacted via my own telephone she answered immediately.

There is no fire exit, despite going up 3-4 flights of stairs the receptionist assures me there's a fire exit i can use on the 3rd floor but we have a problem as we are on the 4th. She failed to see the point of if the fire was on the 4th floor.

The room was advertised with an ensuite. There is a half sized bath with chipped flooring, a hand held shower and half size bath.

When i finally got hold of the receptionist she told me the hotel was fully booked and she couldn't swap our room. However earlier in the evening i checked on the website for the phone number and reservations were available

Very disappointed. Wouldn't put a dog in this room. I intend to speak to the manager in the morning and trading standards

User

One of the hottest days of the year and this hotel has all its aircon in the premises disconnected. I don't know why but that's what I've been told by the reception. To make it worse, they can't even provide an electric fan. They said there's none available. For £80/£90 a night, they could've done better than that. It's flipping hot in the room. If you open the window and not shut the curtains, then any small breeze won't get through anyway. Unless you don't shut the curtains and exposed yourselves outside. We won't be coming back here again.

One Word - AVOID

Rooms are a disgrace, dirty & dated.

Two flights of stairs with 4 suitcases, no lift due to the hotel being a listed building and no help in sight despite being told there was a porter to help we struggled alone at 4am.

Had to pay extra for parking PER CAR which was not disclosed when booking.

Paper thin walls.... great when you have a 6am flight to catch - not!

Shower that rips your skin of due to the pressure.

Never EVER again, worked out the same as the Hilton by the time the ‘extras’ were added.
