About European Scanning Centre - Manchester

The North West of England's first truly open and upright MRI scanner

European Scanning Centre - Manchester Description

The European Scanning Centre (ESC) is the UK's leading diagnostic medical imaging centre. Based in London’s world famous Harley Street, over the last 12 years the ESC has developed a reputation for providing a high quality and professional imaging service dedicated to the needs of leading medical practitioners and the comfort of patients.

At the heart of ESC’s success lies an ethos to the very highest standards of excellence. This is delivered by:

•Consistent investment to remain at the forefront of diagnostic imaging technology. No other Centre in the world possesses our combination of scanners.
•Recruitment of senior experienced radiographers to maximise the potential of the scanners and obtain the best possible image quality.
•Reporting of the images by selected consultant radiologists on their area of specialist expertise.
•Operating in a 5* environment more akin to a spa than a typical imaging department.

ESC are delighted to announce that from Spring 2015, we will be opening the North West’s first truly Open MRI service from our new Centre at Kingsley Hall, Manchester Airport.

On International Women's Day, lets remember Elizabeth Fleischman (5 March 1867 – 3 August 1905) who was an American radiographer, considered an X-ray pioneer.
Here at ESC we are lucky to have the most amazing female radiographer on our team 👍😍

9.6 million people die each year from #cancer. That’s more than HIV/AIDS, #malaria and #tuberculosis combined. By 2030, experts project cancer deaths to rise to 13 million. We need to act this #WorldCancerDay. https://loom.ly/XiAUMAY #IAmAndIWill

Helium is used in liquid form in MRI scanners to cool the magnetic coils which makes them superconductive. However, experts have warned that the world’s supply of helium is due to run out within ten years if it is not reserved for life-saving medical care. OUR SCANNER DOES NOT USE LIQUID HELIUM MAKING IT MORE FRIENDLY TO THE ENVIRONMENT THAN ANOTHER OTHER MRI AVAILABLE.

There's some evidence that pilates can provide pain relief to people with non-specific lower back pain.

Paget's disease of the bone is a chronic bone disorder, relatively common in the elderley and characterised by excessive abnormal bone remodelling. The classically described radiological appearances are expanded bone with a coarsened trabecular pattern. The pelvis, spine, skull, and proximal long bones are most frequently affected.
MRI can be used to investigate the various complications of Paget's disease, particularly sarcomatous degeneration.

We scanned a very anxious VIP in our Open MRI Scanner today. Carrying too many heavy sacks has played havoc with his lumbar spine and he wanted to get it checked out. He did very well and left a little while ago after enjoying a mince pie (no sherry). We even looked after his companions with milk and carrots!!😂🎄

A review from one of today's lovely patients ...

User

Was a little nervous about having my scan. But all I can say is that the Staff every single one of them give you 100% of their attention. They really go the extra mile to make you feel comfortable. Thank you all for all your hard work and attention to detail. 5* plus.

User

Took my Mum for a scan today!

From buzzing in at the gate everyone was lovely and kind, and really looked after her.

Dad and I waited and were given coffee and biscuits! Nothing was too much trouble!

Highly recommended

This centre has efficient, friendly and knowledgeable staff. I had to have 2 separate scans in one appointment and it was quite a lengthy process, the radiographer explained everything clearly and put my mind at rest. I suffer with a list of health issues and major anxiety and was really nervous but was treated really well with total respect. The premises are lovely, spotlessly clean and I couldn't fault anything. I would recommend this scanner to anyone who suffers with claustrophobia as it is totally open. I will only attend this facility in the future 10/10.

User

Severe claustrophobic!!! The staff were great and so patient. They explained everything to me and put me at rest.

User

SUPERB SERVICE Went for my scan today and found the whole process to be excellent. The staff are caring and helpful and talk you through every stage. If you have difficulty with traditional MRI scans then this is the place to go.

My thanks to everyone at ESC for their care

User

Lovely staff, lovely place! So reassuring. I had a very long set of scans to endure which I was dreading but the light, airy open scanner, the choice of music or radio and looking up at a scene through leafy trees made it (dare I say) enjoyable. I even got to watch the Curling on the winter Olympics on a big screen for the final 45 mins. Being able to have my husband in the room with me was great to. Thank you ESC you are wonderful!

User

Lovely people, perfect solution for my claustrophobia! Thank you

User

I would not hesitate to recommend this centre. If you are looking for an open MRI scanner in the Manchester area then this is the place for you. Service from start to finish was 5 star. The staff are warm and welcoming and the radiographer explained what would happen and listened carefully to what I had to say about my symptoms before I went for the scan. The scanning room is lovely, pictures of trees on the ceiling, bright and open. I chose to listen to Smooth radio and I was made very comfortable. I even got warm socks and a blanket. During the scan the radiographers kept in touch with me, telling me how well I was doing throughout the scan. Afterwards, whilst waiting for my CD I was given a cup of tea and a biscuit. It cost me £550 and it was worth every penny. If I need to have another scan at any time in the future I will definitely return. Special thanks to you all. Gillian

User

I had my back scanned at the European Scanning Centre today, I am far too claustrophobic for a conventional MRI scan. It was my second visit and on both occasions I was treated with an exceptionally high standard of care. All the staff are extremely friendly, helpful and caring, and I have no hesitation in recommending the service that they provide. I am so grateful that this centre is here to serve the needs of the north west.

User

I flew from Ireland to have MRI scans done here because I am claustrophobic and cannot bear using the conventional 'tunnel' scanners.

The staff were extremely helpful, friendly and patient which is exactly what a nervous patient needs.

Jane and Leanne looked after all my needs and Dave the radiographer was kind and patient throughout the whole process.

The surroundings are pristine and there is a calm and welcoming atmosphere.

It is minutes away from Manchester airport so very handy if travelling from abroad.

I would highly recommend this centre and thanks to all the staff for their help!

User

I attended the Centre this morning for my MRI Scan. I cannot thank the staff enough for their patience and attention

As I am Claustrophobic and the open MRI Scan was a god send

The Radiologist was in contact with me all the time, very supportive. Would highly recommend this Centre if you have any Robles with the conventional MRI Scanners
