🌟 Big Reveal Sunday! 🌟
Each Sunday throughout the whole of October, we’re going to be releasing information about some amazing things happening at First Act in the last part of 2018!
Week Two!
... As part of First Act's promise to provide our students with the best possible experiences, we've been treating our pupils this month to professional acting headshots, all completely free!
We did this last year as a present to our Senior class; however, since then we've grown by 100+ students and so thought this time we'd do it on a large scale! Today, during a long morning sitting, we've got through over 60 of our students, with many of the rest coming next weekend.
Once again, we've used the brilliant Hannah Dornford-May Photography, who always is fantastic with the kids, and produces stunning results!
We hope our students enjoyed getting their photos taken and we can't wait to see all the brilliant end products ❤️

We've made great strides forward with our Christmas Showcase (tickets on sale at www.ticketsource.co.uk/first-act-drama-tu ition): performance licenses applied for, chaperones getting sorted, programme on the way!
Also, some of our private students are coming up to their exams and their final preparation sessions are going amazingly 😍

This evening, Advanced Class were visited by the amazing Wes for a Shakespeare Workshop 🎭
Wes trained as an actor in Manchester, and since graduating in 2010 has performed with a number of companies of profile such as BBC, ITV and Punchdrunk. In 2013, Wes turned his attention to casting, and most recently producing. He is currently part of the producing team at the one of the North's largest theatres 🙌

Tonight’s Film Club Director was Ieuan and we went travelling in time to the trenches of World War One, to the Roman Coliseum and finally to the Garden of Eden. 🌲 🍎
We also did our first multi camera shoot 🙌📹📹

At Mini’s tonight, we practised keeping a straight face while introducing ourselves to each other with disgusting foods as names. 🥘
We then got started on a piece for our Christmas showcase section: a poem written by our own tutor Phil, entitled 'If Santa was a monkey' 🎅 🐒

Week One!
... Over the next couple of week we have some amazing guest tutors coming in, starting off with the fabulous Emma Norman who is joining us at First Act to lead some ‘Casting Workshops’ with the students in both our Senior classes 😮
Emma Norman has worked in Performing Arts for the past 25 years, initially as a performer in theatre and session vocals - and now for Cuffe and Taylor (Live Nation) as Day to Day Manager of recording and theatre artists such as Collabro (Britain’s Got Talent Winners); Bring it North (Britain’s Got Talent Semi Finalists), The Tailormade (Radio 1 House Band) and AJ Brown (newly signed to Universal). 🙌
Casting credits for Cuffe and Taylor include, most notably: Sheridan Smith Tour vocalists; Collabro UK Tour Children’s Choirs; West End Proms Kids featuring Lea Salonga, Collabro, Ruthie Henshall, Jon Lee and Jodie Prenger.... and the nationwide search to find Bring It North (BGT) 🌟
Having performed various leading roles in Musical Theatre (both professionally and for local amateur groups) Emma has been on both sides of the casting table and so knows very well the trepidation attached to auditioning. 🎭
The workshop will include a question and answer session, role-play, mock auditions and feedback in a fun and encouraging atmosphere.
And maybe Emma will find some new stars amongst you?

Another evening, another jam-packed class!
Thursday Seniors welcomed their new Mrs Kay this evening as well as a couple of other students 👍 it’s so exciting to watch this class go from strength to strength!

Wednesday evening Advanced Class is nearly full! We will soon be starting casting and rehearsing for animal farm 🐽 so ensure your signed up for a place!
Tonight we looked at using dialogue from play scripts to devise drama. We also added a challenge of playing with the status of different characters within our scenes 👍

Tuesday Seniors carried on with their rehearsals and welcomed Lisa, our new Mrs Kay! 🚌
Juniors worked on improv and looked at group pieces for Christmas showcase. ... We then created some cheesy adverts in small groups. 🧀

Mini Class tonight were pushing their new character creations even further 🐲 we performed in scenes, acted out their morning routines and even started to create dialogue 😄
It was Emily’s turn to shine as Director at Film Club tonight. In an untitled film we learned the benefit of rehearsing before doing a take and how to get back on track when everyone gets the giggles. 😂 Next week we’ll be time travelling assassins! 🗡

This was a quote from one of our recent NODA reviews, and this week we’ve proved why this is the case!
Both Senior classes have now left the starting gate with Our Day Out and the expectations of their performance level is incredibly high.
... Our tutors expect discipline, passion and outstanding performances, and our students never fail to live up to those expectations ❤️
We are now looking to recruit THREE MORE actors to join our Thursday Senior class to take on the three uncast roles in Our Day Out.
So, if your child is between 10 - 15 years old, then get in touch! Experience is not needed, just a willingness to learn, heaps of enthusiasm and a drive to play their part in the company which, according to our reviews, “sets the bar for all other youth drama companies”. 🎭

We devised two scenes, one naturalist scene; one abstract, physical-theatre piece. 🎭

Pippa loves First Act under Kit's brilliant guidance has blossomed into a confident and much happier child and added bonus is her school work has improved because she has more self-confidence this is fantastic as she is in year 6. I cannot recommend enough!

Our son has now worked with Kit Phillips in 2 productions and we have been very impressed with Kit, both with his organisation, his patience and his professionalism. We would highly recommend First Act.

My son has had the pleasure of working with Kit on three productions now and has loved every second of them. Kit is also a colleague and my son's teacher so I can confidently recommend him as a teacher.

The dramatic atmosphere created by the cast, music and production team is outstanding. Theatre at its best.

First Act Drama really brought to life the Harry Potter Book Night we held at school. The tutors really brought the magic to life arranging different activities for the children to enjoy. The sorting hat ceremony was particularly fantastic and the First Act team worked together to ensure that the children really felt like they were at Hogwarts.



The professionalism and passion that Kit, Danny and Sen brought to the evening made sure that the children enjoyed every part of the evening and, in the days following, parents have commented on how much the children enjoyed the evening thanks to the hard work of the team!
