We hope you will have a chance to admire our Christmas windows over the festive period. As well as our pal Elton, we feature some weird and wonderful items from our historic instrument collection. Here are a few pics from the display, which includes a 19th century Hurdy Gurdy, an Afghan Rabab, a keyed glockenspiel and a wonderfully crazy Victorian device for strengthening your pianist hands! We also have an early mechanical TV set, reflecting Forsyth‘s days as a pioneer retailer of TV and hi-fi, as well as antique music boxes, a harmonium and violin moulds from the Chanot violin workshop, formerly located on Deansgate. Pop by to have a look, and browse our fabulous selection of Christmas gifts and stocking fillers at the same time.

Great news - our iconic neighbours Kendal's have been saved from closure!! It seems Mike Ashley is a savvy negotiator and has struck a deal that saves over 600 jobs and enables our part of Deansgate to continue as one of Manchester's best shopping destinations.

We were delighted to host the final leg of the ABRSM Guitar Roadshow this weekend – a wonderful introduction by Helen Sanderson to the music on the new syllabus, complete with her brilliant live performances. It was great too to have such an engaged audience joining in with the discussion and asking lots of questions. Thank you all for coming, and thank you Helen for being so generous with your time and experience!

Always brilliant to see the Meetup group Let's Play the Piano! who packed out our performance space yesterday with a programme as diverse as ever: classic repertoire by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Debussy, Chaminade and Rachmaninov, songs by Gershwin, Ray Noble and the Sherman Brothers, folk songs from the former Yugoslavia, and arrangements from Final Fantasy, Game of Thrones and The Greatest Showman.

Piano Workshop with Melanie Spanswick Author of "Play it again: PIANO" Saturday 26 January 2019, 2pm – 4.30pm
FREE ENTRY... Limited places – book yours now! sheetmusic@forsyths.co.uk 0161 834 3281, ext. 204
This workshop will focus on various aspects of technique as highlighted in Melanie's piano course, Play it again: PIANO. Many facets of these very useful books will be discussed, including the graded, progressive repertoire, the practice notes (which accompany every piece), and the suggested piano techniques featured at the beginning of each volume.
Melanie will demonstrate the importance of physical flexibility and relaxation, with plenty of exercises, and she will offer tips about how to implement these exercises into a practice routine. She believes that developing a fluent, tension-free technique is crucial when playing the piano. Scales, arpeggios and other technical work will also be included. There will be an opportunity to try these exercises for yourself, as audience participation is encouraged.
Play it again: PIANO is a two-book graded piano course taking students from Grade 1 to 8 via a selection of 49 piano pieces. It's the ideal course for anyone returning to the piano after a break or for those wanting alternative repertoire between exams. Book 3 (Grade 8 to DipABRSM level) will be available in January 2019.

absolutely one of the best music stores in and around Manchester city centre, love the piano's best quality for miles

User

Visited from Glasgow today and truly blown away by the amazing shop and their equally amazing staff... Thank you for being so patient and not laughing as I sat on the floor playing the flute of my dreams that I then left the shop with!

User

Very pleased with the guitar I bought yesterday the Firch 00m-33sr excellent guitar

Great music shop staff great and very helpful thank you all the best.

User

Thanks to a nostalgic visit to the Alladin's cave that is the first floor of Forsyth's and an inspirational chat with Emma, I have rediscovered my old love of the piano. I cannot thank you enough for this. Who knows, I may even practise again! Many, many thanks and long live Forsyth's!

User

Thank you, buying my piano had been the realisation of a long held ambition after a visit to your shop a few years back. I had some initial teething issues with the piano but Emma has been lovely - every firm should have an Emma. Would recommend.

User

Simply the best piano retail store you can imagine.

User

Lovely place, staff very friendly. Sarah was very helpful and played the piano beautifully

User

I really enjoyed watching my son playing the piano and there is about 100 pianos for sale not exactly and they all have different tunes on the third floor there is allsorts of instruments like ukulele and keyboard and you can change the tone also there was guitars on the first floor in the window you can see a self playing piano and there is some accordions and violins and trumpets all for sale and i really enjoyed it there because you can see inside of the pianos and how they work also on the top floor there is a little mechanism showing you how each piano key works

User

I just need to put this here. I drive through Manchester every morning dropping my daughter at RBS. I have seen the lovely gentleman from this shop give hot drinks to the homeless who sleep under his shelter and also wakes them up in a very caring way. He cleans up and never moans! A true lovely, caring human being!

User

I have bought several products from Forsyth Music over the years without a single problem. But more importantly I have never felt under pressure to buy any of the expensive guitars I have tried over the years. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and genuine in their desire to help you find your best instrument - even if it means you ultimately buy elsewhere.

I tend to judge a business on not just what they sell you but rather on what they do to give you the best advice. This is why I will always go back to them.

User

I have been a customer of Forsyth's for many years, and for good reason... it is an excellent all round music shop with very knowledgeable and friendly staff.

I particularly like the piano floor, where I always get a warm welcome from Paul and the other staff. They always keep a very fine selection of top quality pianos to try, from quality uprights through to concert grands. If I was going to start collecting pianos as a hobby, this is where I'd begin!

No trip to Manchester is complete without a visit!

User

I brought my sons ukulele in to get it fixed and they did it in half an hour so i didnt have to travel back into manchester to pick it up. Excellent costumer service and friendly staff.

User

I always love to visit Forsyth’s when I’m in Manchester. A huge amount of sheet music and scores available, not to mention the incredible piano showroom on the 1st floor, I often find myself spending longer than anticipated in there and usually purchase something I hadn’t planned to buy! Extremely helpful and knowledgable staff too always makes for a great experience.

User

Fantastic music shop if your after quality brands such as gibson, Martin, Taylor etc. I was after a either a Martin D28 or D35 but once the staff let me try both in a practice room it was only gonna be the D35 all day, thanks for helping me establish my purchase and I shall return x

User

User

User

Excellent service and great staff. REALLY helpful even when not buying anything. That sort of relationship goes a LONG way :-)

I recently had my acoustic guitar set up here and it's like a new instrument! A TOTAL joy to play.

User

Best .music shop bar none. Friendly and helpful staff make any visit a perfect expeience

User

Two years ago I brought my nephew in and following excellent advice from the staff he bought a Crafter guitar from you.

Alas my experience on Sunday couldn't be any more different. I'm potentially interested in a banjo ukulele so visited the string department. Enroute to the banjos I picked up a guitar which caught my eye, sat down to play a few chords to see how it sounded. I was immediately drowned out by a staff member on an electric guitar. This happened three times.... I got up and walked out right past an indifferent young lady on the counter. They could do with some training - either that or settle with them as your 'sales prevention team'
