CORE BLIMEY
Its Thursday again. We are challenging the core to the max.
Working in a commercial gym I would see people constantly strapped to machines, never even using a free weight.
... Don't get me wrong machines are good I have them at my place.
But if you truly want to start challenging your core start doing lots of unilateral exercises (single limb)
When you feel you're going to fall over it's that stabilisation that will be trained and developed.

Today we were doing 4 sets of 12-15 reps with a fifth set of partner spotting to failure.

WHY COULD A GROUP BE BETTER?
Gruelling Monday session with the gang.
Talking from personal experience and doing 8 years of one-to-one training I can hand on heart say MOST work harder in a group.
... Affordability to do more sessions is another bonus.. unless you're listening to what your personal trainer is telling you to do outside of your sessions. From experience that's 5%.
GROUP- Without saying it's competitive it becomes a little competitive.
But it takes nerve to get involved in a group. And even more nerve to get a PT in a commercial gym facility.
In both environments A Good PT will make you feel comfortable relaxed and motivated. Ignore the 200 people working around you.

HOW MANY IS ENOUGH? (Steps)
Well they say 0 to 5000 is sedentary 5000 to 10000 lightly active and 10000 Plus very active
Its not something I really pay attention to as I'm in a job where I'm on my feet most of the day.
... But what I do see is people averaging 3 to 4000. Mainly with office based jobs.
2000 steps approx 1 mile so 10000 approx 5 mile.
So with that in mind try to work out how you can get close to 5 miles a day.
Or if you're currently doing 1 mile try and up it to 3.
Whatever you do go up not down.
Because it's not about eating less it's about moving more.

MIXING IT UP.
Do you go to the gym and do pretty much the same stuff day in day out?
Are you adding extra weight to the bar in the class?
... Are you pushed amd motivated out of your comfort zone?
Variation in exercise will not only keep the muscles guessing but keep an individual interested and if they're interested they'll commit to something for a longer period of time.
Classes in gyms are a great way to begin a fitness journey that's if you're confident enough to go in them. With the other 25 people.
Constant commitment to anything like this will reap rewards.
But then comes the plateau.
Month 3 the body knows exactly what's coming. It adapts and things do not change anymore.
The diet you were consuming and utilising doesn't work like it did. You go back to your old ways.
You're then in a position to not understand what's going on and possibly then go in circles resulting in no change.
This is a reason many people have joined fusion fitness or any semi private personal training set up.
Have a plan, execute it, have someone there to make it happen for you you won't regret it..

WHY ARE MONDAYS THE BUSIEST?
100-percent it's down to resetting oneself for having possibly let go a little too much at the weekend.
The exact reason why Friday's are the least busiest.
... Try maintaining balance through the weekend also.
"Ahh yeah but it's been a tough day/week so i went mad" etc
DOGS are rewarded for performing a trick or fetching a stick. Humans adopt the same approach. FACT.
Reward mainly being negative binging.
In the next breath people say THESE SESSIONS ARE NOT WORKING FOR ME.
Again nine times Outta ten it's PROBABLY the individuals that are not working for themselves.
How could structured coached exercise ever be a negative?

SPOT ME PLEASE
Training to failure is a mindset.
I read a good article recently discussing is hypertrophy possible (building muscle) within a 45 minute session..
... Answer being YES but dependent on the person.
Throughout the week When I pair my clients up I give them a rep range of say 8-12 12-15 reps maybe for 3 to 4 sets.
By judging the load on each set I want them to fail at some point between 8 to 12 reps and then be spotted for a couple of more reps.
I tell them that the spotter is in control and not the person lifting.
It's gruesome when you've really nothing left and you're spotter is demanding some more.
This could be the extra bit you need to move you from a plateau.

GET A COACH
With weight loss many people build mountains in front of them before they begin. Instead of small steps.
It's probably took five to 10 years to put a person in a position they're not comfortable with.
... HOW DID I MANAGE TO GAIN 3 STONE? They ask.
Possible reasons (or excuses)
Well I had a child, I had an injury, I don't horse ride anymore, my new job is pretty sedentary, I've no time. Etc etc.
Yet they're looking to reverse large weight gain in a couple of months. If that.
If you plan 6 months ahead and make some minor changes and I mean minor to your current output and input you will see a huge difference in 3-6 month's time.
Lucy pictured. We quickly worked out it was two things.
1- Less than 5000 steps daily 2- Diet consisted of mainly carbohydrates.
That was it. We changed that and within 6 weeks dropped 4kg.
One of the best things about getting a coach is someone to question what you're currently doing and come up with the Solutions.
And as my friend says try not to listen to a friend thats been on a diet all their life.
I MEAN A QUALIFIED COACH.
