Garstang Dental Referral Practice Description

High quality specialist dental treatment, without compromise, giving people healthy, well functioning, attractive teeth and smiles.
This is Finlay and Rachel's vision since establishing the service in 2007. "We have created an environment where we provide specialist treatment and care to the highest standard possible. From our experience of additional training to specialist level, we know that the only way to achieve clinical excellence is by investing time to fully assess, plan, discuss and undertake treatment using the best quality materials and equipment, alongside a high level of customer service".
We provide a team approach in our private practice, drawing on the variety of skills of our highly trained, experienced clinicians, dental technician, qualified dental nurses and practice coordinator. This allows us to achieve the best possible treatment outcomes. Central to this approach is the patient, who is fully involved in the decision making process, enabling us to tailor their dental treatment to their needs and wishes.

We are an experienced team of dental specialists who work closely together utilizing our individual areas of expertise to enable the best possible treatment outcomes. We all share a great enthusiasm, passion and love for dentistry and are continually updating and improving our skills and knowledge. The foundation of the treatment we provide is built upon evidence based dentistry. This is the practice that integrates the best available scientific evidence with clinical experience and patient preference in clinical decisions.

Finlay Sutton and Steve Barber provide specialist restorative dentistry, prosthodontics (replacing missing teeth) and periodontal (gum disease) treatment. Restorative dentistry is a very wide discipline with many different types of treatments and techniques to master. Finlay and Steve have further developed their knowledge and skills and essentially "super-specialise” in certain areas of restorative dentistry. Often, in complex cases, both Finlay and Steve are involved in providing different types of treatment for the same patient in order to achieve the best possible outcome for each aspect of the treatment.
Finlay provides the majority of the removable prosthodontic treatment (dentures) and periodontal treatment (gum disease treatment).
Steve provides the majority of the fixed prosthodontic treatment (veneers, crowns and bridges) and periodontal surgery (gum surgery).
Rowan Garstang, dental technician, works together with Finlay and Steve producing the technical work. Please look at the Laboratory page to see how Rowan’s work enhances the service we are able to provide.
Rachel Seed provides specialist orthodontic treatment (braces for teeth straightening).
Richard Oliver, specialist in oral surgery, places dental implants and undertakes complex surgical procedures.

I (Finlay) have created a new Facebook page - "Finlay Sutton Removable Prosthodontics Education" - dedicated to my teaching, courses and mentorship in removable prosthodontics. This new page contains information about masterclasses I run at the practice for partial dentures, complete dentures, immediate dentures and implant supported removable dentures. In addition it has fully documented cases from start to finish of patients whom I have treated. THIS GARSTANG DENTAL REFERRAL PRACTICE PAGE WILL BE USED FOR THE PRACTICE ONLY - MANY THANKS. https://www.facebook.com/finlaysuttonremo vableprosthodontist/

Finlay's case presentation Provision of a maxillary cobalt chromium based partial denture and immediate resin bonded bridge LR2,1
This 57 year old man self-referred with the following dental concerns: 1. Previous multiple extractions due to bone erosion (resorption)... 2. The lower denture fitted after the extractions irritates my gum and I haven't been able to wear it for the past 3 months 3. The upper denture has been replaced 3 times and the most recent one is not fitting well again and becoming more difficult to wear 4. Eating is becoming difficult and I sometimes whistle when I speak
Dental wish list: "Guide me to the most suitable solution:.
Diagnoses: 1. The maxillary cobalt chromium-based denture was under-extended over the tuberosities and had poor tissue fit resulting in the denture "rocking". The aesthetics of the denture were compromised owing to poor tooth positioning and highly visible metal clasps on the upper premolars when speaking and smiling. These clasps had resulted in wear on the labial surfaces of the upper 4s. 2. The remaining natural teeth were in good condition, with slightly reduced but healthy periodontium and the patient had a good standard of oral hygiene.
Treatment options discussed with the patient: 1. Do nothing. The patient did not want this option. Replace the existing maxillary cobalt chromium based partial denture with one having improved function and aesthetics. This is the option the patient requested. 2. As option 2 with mandibular cobalt chromium based partial denture to replace the missing teeth. We did not believe this was necessary as option 1 would give 10 opposing pairs of teeth. This was presented as an option in the future should the patient wish additional occlusal balance, particularly on the left posterior section following provision of treatment option 2. 3. Replace the missing teeth with dental implants and fixed prostheses. The patient did not want this option.
Following consultation and discussion of the above treatment options, the patient chose to have option 2 namely, a maxillary cobalt chromium based partial denture. The clinical situation and treatment process is shown in detail below with photographs. The patient was successfully rehabilitated with this and his quality of life considerably improved. The clinical work was provided by Finlay and the technical work by Rowan.
**The immediate resin bonded bridge LR2,1 was required as the patient suffered trauma (at home) part way through treatment resulting in fracturing of the LR2 **
