*** MEET THE SONGWRITER: Son Of William ***
- When did you first start writing songs together? We started writing around four years ago when we where swapping music lessons (Hayley helping Ben with vocals and Ben helping Hayley with guitar).
... - Can you remember what your first song about? The first song we wrote was ‚ÄėDear Old Acquaintance‚Äô , which is a song/letter to someone one of us can never speak to again.
- Where do you usually find inspiration? Hayley: Daily events or feeling but mainly in the moment. Ben: Guitar wise I’ve been enjoying writing in open tunings that are more unfamiliar to me. It helps keep things fresh when thinking of ideas.
- What‚Äôs the most random song you‚Äôve written? A political one called ‚ÄėWhat the ****‚Äô we don‚Äôt perform it. It‚Äôs very emotionally driven ha.... and not very good.
- Which of your songs means the most to you? Hayley: for me it was the first song we wrote as it was a very organic writing process and an extremely honest realisation. Ben: maybe Colour of Love. I remember driving home after we’d written that song feeling really excited about it.
- Who are the songwriters you look up to? Hayley: Susan Tdeschi, Madeline Preyoux, Carole King Ben: Paul Simon, Paul Mccartney , John Lennon , Stevie Wonder , Bob Dylan,
- What is your favourite song that isn‚Äôt your own? Hayley: There are many butttt ‚ÄėDon‚Äôt Fear the Reaper‚Äô - Blue Oyster Cult Ben: ‚ÄėA Day in the Life‚Äô is a good one.
- What are your essential items for a songwriting session? Hayley: COFFEE!! Ben: 2 coffees.
- How long does it usually take you to write a song? Hayley: it can take anywhere between 5 minutes to an hour or weeks... sometimes things also get shelved.
- Who do you play your new songs to first? Hayley: My mates after a few beers (for courage)
