A man has been jailed after inflicting a fatal punch outside Dixy Chicken in Rochdale.
Today, Tuesday 30 October Jafar Ali (24/05/1998) of Church Stile, Rochdale has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court after being found guilty of manslaughter.
The court heard how on Thursday 28 September 2017, Ali and his friends had been in Rochdale town centre and went to Dixy Chicken on Reed Hill to get some food.
... While they were waiting for their takeaway to be cooked, a 59-year-old approached the chicken shop from a nearby hotel.
However, before he could get inside, a verbal disagreement started between Ali and the man.
Suddenly, Ali punched 59-year-old Keith Maden, causing him to fall and hit his head on the road.
Ali then fled down Yorkshire Street.
Keith was taken to hospital, where he sadly died a short time later.
When officers went to Ali’s home to arrest him the following day, he was unsurprised, telling them that he was going to hand himself in later that day.
Senior Investigating Officer Duncan Thorpe of GMP’s Major Incident Support Unit, said: “In just a few seconds, Ali took a complete stranger away from the people who loved him the most.
“Maden had no idea when he left the hotel to get some food that he was taking his last steps, thanks to Ali’s violent actions.
“While Ali may not have meant to kill the man, he did nothing to help when he realised the extent of Keith’s injuries.
“I hope Keith’s family take some comfort knowing Ali is behind bars for what he did to their loved one.”
Key messages from GMP’s One Punch Can Kill campaign:
• It only takes one punch to take a life. • Control your temper so everyone can enjoy a good night out. • Remember: One punch, one death, one life of regret. • A split-second reaction can destroy lives forever. • When the red mist descends, lives can be destroyed forever. • Walk away from trouble. • Even minor outbursts of violence can have devastating outcomes – one wild punch or shove can kill. • Avoid trouble, control your temper and do not be drawn into arguments. • Irresponsible drinking can greatly increase your chances of falling victim to or committing serious violent crime.

Police are appealing for the public’s help to find missing Gareth Connerton from Manchester.
Gareth, 34, of Dunworth Street in Rusholme, has not been seen since 9 September 2018 but was reported missing on 7 October 2018 after friends and relatives realised he had not been seen by anyone for a considerable amount of time.
He is known to spend time in the Moss Side area.
... Gareth is white, and has ginger shaved hair. He is described as around 5ft10in tall and of slim build.
Gareth could be wearing blue tracksuit bottoms and a dark blue t-shirt with the Fed-Ex logo on it with black trainers.
Police Constable Paul Drew from GMP’s City of Manchester team said: “It is completely out of character for Gareth to disappear and not get in touch with his friends or family.
“We have been trying to find him for a number of weeks now, but sadly he is still missing.
“I hope the public can help us piece together more information so we can find Gareth as soon as possible.
“The image that we have of Gareth is of poor quality unfortunately, but it is the best we have.
“I can only hope that someone out there recognises him and can help us with our search.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting the reference number MP/18/0119816.

Positive Policing Post🌟
Last week, one of our Gorton Residents was an unfortunate victim of theft as his electric scooter was stolen from outside his home address. At the age of 91, Mr Whewell entirely relied on this for shopping, & to regularly attend his regular crown green bowling activities. Pc Helen MCNEIL made contact with The Wheelchair Centre, Audenshaw, where employee Christine very kindly provided the donation of a replacement scooter.
... Here is Alf back on the streets with his new set of wheels! A BIG thank you goes out to the good deed of the staff at the centre.

Promised 2 abandoned dangerous dogs would be collected on Christmas day night. (Dogs known history of fighting others & a local cat killed ) 11 hours later, a call to recind the promise. "would not fund Pet Medics to take". Left a young woman trying to help in a very vulnerable & dangerous position with no help at all. Kitchen door torn off hinge. 1 bed flat with her own dog and cat. But same issue at GMP Head quarters with 2 stray/ Abandoned dogs, they are funded of course to be collected immediately & kept safe at Pet Medics.

Conclusion? Hypocrites & liars.

I have never been so disgusted and horrified in my life!!! Half 3 in the morning the police bang on my door several times shouting 'open the door or we are breaking it down' my brother opened the door and straight away they viciously grabbed him and put him in handcuffs. My 50 year old mum run down the stairs worrying what was happening and why she had been woken from her sleep to her door nearly being booted down. The police then shouted at my mum and said 'this is none of your concern we are her to arrest your son' 5 of the police was stood at the bottom of the stairs trying to interrogate my mum. He then asked for my brothers mobile phone which we did not know where it was! So they forcibly grabbed my mums arm (baring in mind she has inflammation all on her top of her shoulder and is struggling to do things with it) they then twisted her arm and pulled her down the stairs my mum was shouting them stop please your hurting my arm. The ignorance of them themself did not care and carried on chewing their gum. The officer then grabbed my arm squeezed it as hard as he could stood on my foot and pushed me down the stairs. He then come down and asked my mum to sign a form to say they have searched the house my mum said 'I can't see I need my glasses' he then replied 'put her down as she's refusing' yet again another lie. The police officer also said my mum had an attitude and they will arrest her. The police said they were looking for a lad with blonde hair about 5'4. Most lads in Manchester look like this. I am absolutely shocked. I am 15 years old and I know myself what Is right and what is wrong. My mum then asked to go outside because she was starting to get really warm and the female officer stood there and kept repeating 'what are you saying what are you saying' Me and my mum are now left with bruises and she's is terrified! Absolutely disgusted with their attitudes and the way they grabbed my 50 year old mum.

Gmp are a disgrace to the force in Britain. 3 crimes I have reported in 6 months, 2 they never even bothered to send an officer, and a phone operator hung up on me as because I was in a stressful position ie, fear of a sexual assault but because I used swear words to describe my predicament, she took offence and hung up on me. Great to know police officers are sensitive. But not sensitive enough to give compassion or do their duty, just sensitive little precious souls.

User

Given a log no and told inspector would be in touch same day few years now still waiting never got told their was a waiting list feel it's best to go to a solicitor or go public don,t want to know when their own do wrong meanwhile left bullied and discriminated through them

User

Disgusted by GMP's attitude towards the fradulent manner in which £300 was taken from me , I had 110% support for the police but after being told they have no interest in persuing my cause despite me providing them with all the details they could need.

Furthermore I have lodged a complaint regarding the matter on 2 seperate occasions and have never recieved the call back that I was promised...

Clearly my case isnt important enough for GMP :(

Although this incident happened almost 6yrs ago I think it should be public knowledge! I was in Tesco Market Street (Manchester) with my baby son (October 2010) I had hold of my son's pushchair with one hand and was looking on a shelf for a product I required with the other hand as I turned back to my son I was horrified to see a person in a "BURKA" trying to unclip my son from his pushchair as she/he was caught red handed they stormed off knocking the hood of my child's pram. I was in utter shock unable to believe what I had just witnessed I reported this to Tesco whom said they would check cctv footage and contact me! I hadn't even reached the bus station when I got a call from Tesco saying somebody had obviously tried to abduct my child and I needed to report it to the police immediately as they couldn't. On reaching home I immediately did this I was interviewed by the police whom then went to Tesco to sieze the cctv footage it was days later before I heard anything from a female police officer and what I was told made me feel physically sick as I was told it is quite obvious what went on that day both you and I know what happened but unfortunately our hands are tied all as we can do is put posters up in our staff offices and make police aware!!!!! So these 2 people one in a Burka and a Male walked Scott free with no consequence to face!!! And then it's wondered why theres predjudice in the world. This incident was never published and I think it's high time it was!!!!!

Given a log no and told inspector would be in touch same day few years now still waiting never got told their was a waiting list feel it's best to go to a solicitor or go public don,t want to know when their own do wrong meanwhile left bullied and discriminated through them

Be aware of this absolute scumbag PCSO collar number 6559 who assaulted me and my friend tonight at tesco Walkden after stopping us with a small amount of cannabis which I was cooperative about and handed to him I then reached for my phone to empty my pockets to be thrown against a wall and while I was still cooperating he got on to his radio and had the cheek to say I was fighting with him I had numerous witnesses that will all tell u the same my friend seen how much force this PCSO was using was unnecessary so he tried to convince this PCSO he was over reacting then the PCSO decided to assault him and I. The process ripping his work uniform but when a real police officer Turned up in a van he let his grip go and acted like he was doing his job right and in the process broke my brand new Sony Z5 contract phone and earphones so yh I would like compensation if not I'll see u in court badge or not Learn your job properly people might actually want your help one day
