Go Herdwick - Calvert Trust Public Art Trail 2016 Description

Running all the way through the summer until the 4th September 2016, Go Herdwick is a sheep-inspired public art trail and fun family activity for children of all ages. Following in the footsteps of similar public art trails across the UK, such as Gromit Unleashed and Pigs in Bath, 108 decorated ewes and lambs can be found in a variety of locations through the centre of the Lake District National Park!

All the life-sized sculptures are uniquely decorated by mainly local artists, although one of the sheep is actually decorated by an internationally renowned conceptual artist Conrad Atkinson, who holds professorship at the University of California as well as staging exhibitions at venues such as The Tate National and the National Gallery in Washington.

The 60 ewes and 48 lambs are located in a variety of accessible public locations from Keswick in the north, to Windermere in the south. Trail maps for both the ewes and the lambs can be bought at a variety of locations once in the Lakes, or in advance of your visit from http://www. goherdwick. co. uk /trail-maps / with a “Trail App” also soon to be launched for both IPhone and Android.

When the trail finishes at the end of the summer holidays, all 118 sculptures will be rounded up and taken to the Rheged Centre (http://www. rheged.com/ ) where between 22nd – 28th September they will be in residence for a mass public viewing . They will then be taken to the Low Wood Bay Hotel, where they will all be sold at a Grand Gala Auction on 8th October.

The whole Go Herdwick project is organised by the Lake District Calvert Trust, a charity which is dedicated to providing residential outdoor activity courses for adults and children with disabilities, with all money raised going towards the redevelopment of their historic tithe barn in Keswick into a specialist rehabilitation centre for those with acquired brain injury.
