The beer's Blonde, James Blonde. Suave and sophisticated with a licence to thrill, it will send you to double-oh heaven. Best served neither shaken nor stirred!

User

Enjoy a golden beer from the light side with Hoppy Wan Kenobi. Crisp and tart, the hop is strong in this one.

New on at the Golden Rule

User

New on the bar this afternoon: Trooper Light Brigade, a very pale golden beer with an intense zesty hop flavour.
Also recently added: Blue Moon Belgian White, a cloudy blonde beer with tangy orange and corriander; and Backyard Brew Shed Head, golden amber with fresh fruity taste.

User

Beer Baracus, an old-school chestnut bitter full of malty toffee and biscuit flavours with just a touch of citrus hop. Drink it, fool!

User

With the evenings cold, dark and damp why not warm up with an Old Tom. The classic winter warmer: dark, strong and, like any cat, to be treated with respect.

User

By popular demand we have the return of Brew Dog's Punk IPA, a light golden trans-Atlantic fusion IPA, fruity with a dry finish. 5.6% abv.
Also on the bar is Hallowed, a Belgian-style beer developed by Robinsons and Iron Maiden. Blood red in colour with subtle fruity notes and a smooth dry finish. 6.0% abv.

User

Love Ambleside's second Festival of the Fells starts this Thursday, and we have just the beer for it: a mid-golden malty ale, perfect refreshment after a trek over the mountains, or a stroll 'round the shops!
We also have two events here at The Rule: 7pm on Thursday fell-running legend Wendy Dodds talks about her epic runs, and on Friday at 6.30pm Mark Hatton talks about 5000 years of mining and quarrying in the Lake District.
For more information see www.festivalofthefells.uk.

Yippee IPA, a light golden beer with an initial fruity grapefruit taste followed by dry hoppy bitterness.

User

A fantastic turn out for Ambleside Rushbearing this afternoon.

User

The latest from White Label Brews is now on the bar: Socks & Sandals, a 5.3% American-style IPA full of fruity hop flavours.

User

Two new craft ales added this morning: Mojo (5.5%), a clean, refreshing, straw coloured ale with exotic tropical fruit hop flavours, and Blue Moon (5.2%), a Belgian-style wheat beer with subtle orange and coriander flavours and a creamy finish.

For every pint of Dizzy Blonde that we sell during June, July and August Robinsons Brewery will be donating five pence to our chosen charity, the Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team.

User

The latest craft beer on the bar, Franciscan Well Brewery's Chieftain from Cork. An initial sharp fruity hoppiness followed by smooth malty richness. Absolutely fantastic!

User

Just in: the legendary BrewDog Punk IPA, pale golden, tropical fruits and light caramel, and wonderful dryness. Also Death's Door Spirits Gin, clean tasting with coriander and fennel botanicals, from Washington Island, Wisconsin.

User

Golden, like a Polynesian sunset with hints of lemon, lime and exotic flora. This crisp Hawaiian shirt of a brew packs a punch and always gets its man. A worthy addition to any moustache!

User

Happy Christmas from the Golden Rule. Hope to see you all soon. Here's a suitably wintery scene from the 1940s.

User

We have added two craft beers to the bar. The first ones are Rebel Red, an Irish red ale, and Lucky Jack, a cloudy Blonde from Norway.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐The Golden Rule has to be my favourite real pub in Britain. By real I mean no music large selection of quality beers, ciders, lagers,🍺 malt whiskeys and all the usual drink delights.🍹Lovely open fire,🔥 No food except bagged snacks and pork pies & Scotch eggs.🍯(so no food smells) Very friendly Landlord and bar staff. In other words, the perfect local pub to relax and chat or contemplate your day in the beautiful village of Ambleside and it's amazing surroundings.P.S And thankfully rowdy behavior is frowned upon.💛 PPS. Just one thing, please get rid of the new staff uniforms, leave that for the Corporate chains, not for this Local Gem.

We love the Golden Rule pub it has no music no food and best of all no big screen TV’s just good conversation with people from all over the country and abroad .it has become our local when we are visiting Ambleside

User

Traditional cosy pub with a good selection of ales and a lovely pork pie. The perfect place to spend and afternoon out of the rain.

User

This is the best pub anywhere, always visit it when I am this way

User

Lovely cosy pub with a roaring fire & a large choice of very well kept ale. I love it .

User

Love the place, great beer, great pies, great staff, great fire and a great location. The pub has lovely little rooms all off the main bar. You can always find a cosy spot.

User

Great pub and staff always a pleasure to go in for a drink.

User

Great place, don't go there and ruin it for the ones that love it :-)

In all seriousness, the place is a gem of a pub, proper beer, proper bar snacks (crisps, nuts, pork pies etc) and the staff are pretty damn good too!

We've been there on every visit to Ambleside and it's our favourite who make locals, walkers and their dogs very welcome indeed.

User

Great old proper pub. Warm welcome.Roaring fires. Nothing fancy just a great selection of beers and good 'old fashioned ' hospitality. It has become tradition for us to call in after we have walked to High Sweden Bridge. Years of happy memories.

User

Great beer great service great location

User

Excellent bar with finest Ales and friendly atmosphere. Always the end of walk pint. Nowhere better in Ambleside.

User

Been here lots of times. Never disappoints. They serve good ale and look after their beer. Hartleys Cumbria Way - a great pint. Always a good mix of people. Somebody always willing to strike up a conversation. A great pub.

User

Always a warm and friendly welcome. Beer is always spot on. And the pork pies. With a real fire. Probably the best boozer in the world.

User

Always a great pint and a friendly welcome

User

A meeting place of warm-hearted and good minded folk, thank you for extending full bodied hospitality and making the dogs more than welcome with treats of biscuits and their own bowls of water.

User

A great little out of the way, off the beaten track (in the sense of tourism! ) pub; that sells excellent Robinsons beer. I had a Dizzy Blonde! It's an ideal session beer. They also sell pork pies and crisps! The interior is classic, with round, wooden topped, heavy caste iron legged tables and lots of historically interesting black and white photos on the walls. If you like conversation for your background noise, or as a participant! This is the pub for you. Immaculately clean and comfortable- including the toilets!!!

User

Good atmosphere and nice selection of drinks with a small beer garden

Drunk manager was unpleasant and hostile towards us from the moment we walked in because we had 2 young german shepherds who were barked at by other little dogs as we entered. So we took our dogs, who are very friendly, in the other room where there was 1 table left which we took and the manager immediately told us we couldnt sit there. Some people moved for us in the corner inviting us to sit there so we did. The manager then came and sat opposite us and glared at my dogs trying to provoke a reaction from them. I heard him telling his friend how many rums he had drank as he was working and he was going fir anothet drink The customers were all over my dogs, stroking them and asking questions about them. We could hear dogs in the other room barking but nothing was said. Then my 9 month old barked once and the manager came flying in and told us to leave immediately. He was so drunk he couldnt string a sentence together and then knocked a glass over. I have never been treat with such hostility and will never visit this pub again! Terrible atmosphere and not dog friendly. The place is also damp and mouldy.

User

Boring pub no atmosphere has great potential but it its run like something out of the 50s children must bee seen and not heard type of attitude not a place we will ever step into again.
