Hartwell House Hotel, Restaurant & Spa Description

Hartwell House is a beautifully restored 17th century stately home. The magnificent rooms are superbly furnished with antiques and hung with fine paintings. Many of the exquisitely designed bedrooms and suites are in the house and some in Hartwell Court, the converted coach houses or the Old Rectory, Hartwell. With high ceilings, fine fabrics and dreamy views over the extensive landscape, it is a truly idyllic setting.

There are thirty bedrooms and suites on three floors in the main house each aimed at ensuring your comfort and enjoyment during your stay. In addition there are ten suites and six bedrooms in Hartwell Court, the adjacent 18th century indoor riding school. The Old Rectory Hartwell has a superbly appointed master four poster suite with a sitting room and three other bedrooms with bathrooms.

Hartwell House is an Historic House Hotel of the National Trust, with all profits donated to the charity.

We were met at the gate by a charming and very helpful man who directed us to the car park . We were then met at the main door, addressed by name and shown to our table for afternoon tea. The waiting staff were thoroughly conversant with our special requests for food and served us with speed, charm and efficiency. After a most comfortable and delicious tea , we were told enthusiastic background history of the house and encouraged to explore the outstandingly beautiful grounds complete with a map. We could not have been made more welcome or had a better experience. We cannot wait to repeat our visit and perhaps, stay overnight and use the magnificent spa. Thank you to everyone concerned.

User

We had 5 Indulgence Days at Hartwell Spa to celebrate my daughters 21st birthday. We couldn't have been better looked after by the Therapists and staff. Our treatments were superb, the lunch gorgeous, nothing was to much trouble, and we left at the end of a glorious day feeling relaxed and thoroughly spoilt. Thank you for making a special day wonderful.

User

We came here from another hotel on a moment’s notice. From the ridiculously early check-in to the late check-out, the walks, the afternoon tea, the dinner, the wine, the just-baked biscuits with morning tea, the little tours by staff and pointing out the beautiful things in the house the whole stay was wonderful . We stayed in LouisXVIII’s bedroom with gorgeous views and the bed was amazing. Would love to come back here.

User

Was treated to an 'eat and treat' by some fabulous friends for a big birthday. Very easy to book with the voucher I was given. Staff were very helpful in choosing my treatment...which was lovely, can recommend Jessica for a massage!! Lunch also lovely. Staff in cafe great. Lovely surroundings, wonderful way to escape for a couple of hours!!

User

They do a lovely afternoon tea and the surroundings are spectacular

User

The most amazing place to stay. The room was spectacular, the food was delicious, the pool was the perfect temperature and all the staff could not have been more helpful. I hope to be able to return some day. Thank you Hartwell for a fabulous weekend.

User

Superb friendly atmosphere and staff. Wonderful food and service. Extensive grounds, a real Oasis from the normal. Not low cost but it is value for money. I was here for a Breakfast Meeting but have done Lunch many times. Staying here for a few nights would undoubtedly be a great thing to do.

User

Just had a delightful dining experience, having been given a surprise evening dinner. From the moment of arrival we were shown genuinely warm and courteous attention by all members of staff: telling us the history of the house, guiding us through the menu, serving impeccable food and making sure we were relaxed and comfortable. The surroundings are beautiful and I would love to return as a hotel guest to explore everything that Hartwell House has to offer.

User

I was given an indulgence day when I completed chemo last year. I went yesterday, with a friend, and had the most amazing day. Lazy morning swimming and reading by the pool - we could have joined the AquaFit class but decided not to. The food at lunch was superb and service was just right. My treatment in the afternoon was done by s lovely young lady who took time to ask about my recovery and what I needed. All the staff were friendly and helpful but not 'in your face'. All in all, superb and just what I needed. Thank you.

User

I had an excellent swim, a visit to the steam room which ideally should have been hotter. It is a shame that the spa has not replaced the outside hot tub which was relaxing and social. I used to meet many interesting hotel guests there from all over the world. I enjoyed a delicious double espresso at the bar and café on the balcony while reading the paper and served by the lovely Joana from Portugal who is a conscientious and friendly barista and waitress.

User

Hartwell House is stunning!! One of the most beautiful hotels we've ever stayed in. Our room was upgraded from a suite in Hartwell Court, to a suite in the main house. What an incredible room! All staff in the house and spa were extremely helpful & friendly, the dinner on both nights very good & the grounds tranquil & gorgeous. Thank you Hartwell House for a truly wonderful stay.

User

Enjoyed a one night stay, the room was fantastic, the meal as superb and the setting outstanding. Then used the Spa and its facilities, and came away feeling extremely refreshed. Thoroughly recommended.

User

Booked the Health and Beauty Experience for me & my husband. I've visited the spa quite a few times but my husbands never been. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The pool and jacuzzi were clean. The sunbeds by the pool were very comfortable. Lovely robes and slippers.

Our treatments were amazing. All of the staff are very polite and helpful. Spa cafe is also very nice. We had a lovely lunch and the staff were very attentive. I would highly recommend!

User

A lovely, laid back slice of old england. Great staff, excellent breakfast, relaxing spa. Well worth a visit.

User

A fabulous surprise weekend to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Feel totally relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Staff wonderful and completely waited on us. Spa delightful but could do with a bit of an upgrade. Spa staff wonderful. We enjoyed our treatments very much. A few hidden extras e.g. after Sunday lunch expected to pay £6 for a coffee. Food very expensive but at the same time delicious. Highly recommend Hartwell ..

User

Went for a Spa indulgence package between 2-5pm which was lovely. The treatments were lovely (had the Detox and Revive treatment and a pedicure).

Only a few things that could be improved on for Hartwell to take into account:

> Jacuzzi in pool area could be a couple of degrees warmer (in my opinion). However the pool itself was the perfect temperature.

> Pool area could do with a lick of paint.

> Chair covers on loungers need replacing. The Velcro keeping the bottom half and top half together were worn and didn't work meaning the cushion would slip off.

> I had a spa treatment involving a scrub which was then a pain because to wash it off I had to go through the crowded changing room which guests use for the pool. My other half who had a treatment upstairs had a room with a shower in it which would have been far more convenient.

> Finally the changing room space was small and limited. They ask that you don't get the floor wet in the locker area after showering but there's nowhere to dry off. Just a little bit slippery everywhere as a result.

Despite the improvements that could be made, had a lovely time at the spa!

User

Very, very nice! We had a super sunny day and we enjoyed walking the grounds with our dog. We had one of the dog friendly cottages which gave us oodles of space and everything we wanted. The afternoon tea was delicious and took you back in time when sitting in the Morning Room. A real treat and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful!

User

Stunning hotel and facilities, however, a little disappointed that no staff came to assist whilst many guests were struggling to move their cars in the snow on Sunday, the most help the dozen or so guests received was the loan of a shovel! No help or acknowledgement of the dire situation from the hotel staff. A huge thank you to the other generous guests who managed to push my car up the hill for me, I hope everyone got home safely.

User

Lovely place great food beautiful surroundings ... the draw back be careful of the hidden charges i.e. no tea and coffee in rooms and suggests you order it for your room but .... you will pay £12:00 for the tea tray which is rather steep for 2 English breakfast tea bags eh
