Top fishery, owners are sound lads and happy to give advice, not a easy water but the fish are stunning and definitely worth putting the effort in.

Just got back from a weekend at hillside and have too say had a great time. From the minute we arrived all the staff were very helpful. After showing us to the peg and pointing out a few features I got the marker rod out to confirm what I had been told, and see if I could find any others spots. Having picked my spots I got the rods out and got set up for the night. After watching the show from some of the residents, (large and small) I got my head down feeling exited about what was to come. I was woke at 4am with a few bleeps on the RH rod, so decided to carry on where I had left off the evening before, watching some large lumps putting on quite a show while I drank the first coffee of the day. Unfortunately nothing else happened until around 1pm when the RH rod melted away, which resulted in a Pb grass carp of 18lb on the nose. Then the wind and rain started which killed it until after dark. A few fish started showing over our spots so we went to bed with renewed opptomism. We were woke up at 6am by another one toner that was soon under control and hitting the spreader block. An absolute immaculate bar of gold common turning the scales round too 23 lb 10oz so a fish apiece and a pb each for us on our first visit to hillside. I'm pretty sure it would have been a couple more had the rain not moved in on the Saturday. I had to be away fairly early on the sunday, so those lumps that had filled me with excitement the previous days will have to wait until next time. And with the addition of a cafe comeing soon this is sure to be on most carp and cat anglers to do list. Great work guys, looking forward to my next visit

User

Great place to fish for the specimen angler! And if you can brave the conditions it's a great all year round venue that offers some stunning fish and great view's of the surrounding countryside.

Staff very helpful and forthcoming with information on catch reports and now you can book a peg on Berts or Pads lake it makes it easier to get on the fish.

User

Fished pads lake 4 times and blanked 3 of them but will still return. Not going to be bitter about blanking like on some of the other reviews. For a lake that's only been open a year, I think it's doing great!! They are making improvements all the time, trying to make the anglers experience better. Will is a top guy and will do absolutely anything to help you out and make your trip as best as it can be! Can't wait for the next trip, hopefully bag myself a new PB!

User

Fished 3 out of the 4 lodges always clean and tidy good chance of catching good fish lads are sound so pay your money take your chance lads and enjoy

User

First time visit to Hillside and it was fantastic. Spent the day on the coarse lake introducing the misses to fishing. Regulars are friendly and offer great advice on baits and best spots. Owner is friendly and takes care of the lakes and surrounding area. Course lake has some beautiful mirror carp in and decent sizes. Highly recommend any fisherman to try the lakes; we will be back soon

User

Brilliant place even the match waters are spot on. If you haven't yet been your missing out.

User

Been coming to hillside and fishing berts for past two years we fetch the children and they love it too the staff here are more than helpful really nice people and easy to get on with overall 10/10 all round guys

User

Absolute crackin fishery well run stunning BIG fish. What more does an angler need.

User

Just done a 24hr session on Berts pool I did catch and was the only one to catch so any bad points are not bitter due to not catching!

It was everything I expected it to be small plenty of fish not the prettiest water with it been newish.

Toilets not brilliant as every one says but at the end of the day there is a toilet and lots of places I fish have none.

One thing I am really really annoyed about is that the rules state -

**Do not damage bankside vegetation or trees - I was fishing a small bay and was walking around the bankside looking for signs of fish which I now understand is not allowed which is fair enough but no signs whatsoever stating this!

Rather than the bailiff/owner coming and having a quiet word with me been my first time fishing on here he thinks it's best to shout from pads lake which is 200 yds plus away at the top of a hill for everyone else on the complex to hear to stop walking around immediately which made me feel a bit of a fool unessacery! But it gets worse he would rather shout and scream at me for doing this when there was two lads two swims down from me fishing 2 quiver tip rods each with a small pan net each and no landing mat between them on a lake which is meant to have 50lb plus catfish and 30lb plus carp in it also lads opposite me surface fishing as I say I was the only one to catch fishing single baits and the amount of bait I seen other anglers putting in would be enough bait to feed every fish on the complex for the next 12 month!!Bearing all this in mind I'm fishing the swim with the bailiff hut behind me with a bailiff actually sat in it!!

User

What can I say, not the best of fisheries far from it, portaloo on pad lake was disgusting,I've seen cleaner and nicer smelling cow sheds, as for fishing am no danny Fairbrass, but 10 men 20 rods every rig an every bait imaginable 48 hours of rods in the water an one 10lb carp which I wouldn't call a specimen when you can catch them all day in my local puddle, not what you would call a specimen water a hole full of water, no features no snags no lily's no fish or very few I know it new but still I'm sure other people have caught an enjoyed it but not for me or the other 9 people who were there this weekend

User

Just done a 24 on pads lake wasn't overly impressed, 2 fish came out from other pegs both sub 10lb.

Parking is an issue with people paying no attention to the loading / unloading area and leaving their cars parked there.

Pegs are adequate size but a lot of line and litter, didn't see a bin on site. I take litter home but it appears not everyone is.

Portaloo is quiet frankly a joke no tissue, very dirty and looked like it had never been emptied let alone cleaned.

One peg had 8 rods out between 2 anglers. There were 2 anglers on ever peg bar 1/2 this is obviously a small lake and I am sure the angling pressure reflects the number of fish caught. With the rule of 3 rods being permitted per angler it's no surprise the fish switched off.

Overall vibe is the fishery doesn't really care and is just happy to take your money and let people crack on without being monitored, didn't have a bailiff come around any time during the 24 which is not something I have experienced on a day ticket water to date.

If I was to fish it again I would try either Bert lake or to get on Pads midweek when it's quieter but will probably give better managed venues a go first.

User

I was suppose to do a 48 hour at hillside fishery on the berts pool, I booked a peg on the Thursday and went the following day, no hassle booking on, easily payed over the phone. Having read the reviews some bad reviews, some good reviews, some great reviews but It's all down to a personal opinion. On arrival to the fishery, there was rubbish pilled up on the side , a mouldy caravan and 2 static vans. I though nothing of it, drove down to berts pool, pulled up outside the reception with no one to be seen. Sat in the car for 30 mins waiting for someone to come. One of the bailiffs come and told me where to go roughly. No pegs was signed with a number so it's a guessing game! I got all the stuff out the car barrowed it around to the peg, went to pre-bait a few spots. I went back to ask the balliff where the toilets are , he pointed at a shed on the banking which you can imagine what they was like! :/ went back to the peg and there was a low double common floating passed me (DEAD) so cut the long review short, I packed up on Saturday having just 1 run , nothing showing or surfacing so I packed up and moved on to a different fishery!

Has potential to be a good fishery just maintenance isn't good!

User

Booked on Saturday/Sunday on arrival I thought small lake, big enough pegs, to find out someone else was sharing the peg with me so I decided not to fish the water and loose the 25 booking fee. too crammed for my liking there's to many pegs for the size of the pad lake pool. And 3 rods per person your asking for disaster and arguments. Would be a nice little water if the pegs were reduced to give each angler some space. I get it's a business and your there to make money but I can't be the only one to think this

User

The place is a mess. The owner tries to be a bully the bailiffs are pricks. Don’t waste your money.

User

Ok when ever someone leaves a feedback and it might have a little bit of criticism in it you will 100% get a stupid remark back . We can to hillside on the weekend . Very poor layout pegs crammed together pegs were shit .. very muddy and boggy . Toilet was poor and no toilet roll .. no sink to wash your hands with .. (apparently if you want to wash your hands then check in a hotel ). Burts lake looks like a builders yard and to get to it is one hell of a hill so be careful .. no littler bins around but then again what would you expect off people that are not bothered about washing there hands .... Basically it's wank ...seen comments from other people about floating dead fish ??? .. apparently we were only there to party .. hmmm in bed by 6!30 ... Muppet ..My advice ...could be better . Pegs to close . Layout poor ....... Owner should dip his hand in his pocket and stop talking money off people robbing cunt ... ...now for good comments ... Errrrrrrr hmmmmmmm arhhhhh. Will have to get back to you on that one .

The place is a mess. The owner tries to be a bully the bailiffs are pricks. Don’t waste your money.
