Join us for a Q&A with director Jane Magnusson following the screening of Bergman: A Year in a Life on Sat 26 Jan at 17:40.
Bergman: A Year in a Life focuses on 1957, one of the most prolific years for the Swedish director, when he shot two films, opened two of his most celebrated films: The Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries, produced four plays, and a TV film, while juggling with a complicated private life. Through more than 50 interviews (including with Bergman’s elder br...other Dag in a never before seen Swedish TV interview, Liv Ullmann and Roy Andersson – who tells a terrific anecdote about Bergman having to apologise to a bear) and use of archive materials, Magnusson portrays not only the artist but also a deeply flawed human being.
Bergman: A Year in A Life screens on general release from Fri 25 Jan

Went to see England is Mine at the cinema. It was my first visit and the space is so impressive. Staff at the bar downstairs were really helpful...you can take your drinks into the cinema which made for a relaxing start to the screening!

User

This venue is amazing we were there to see a play and I found the staff to be really helpful. I use sticks to walk with and without asking the young lady showed me the ramp to use instead of the stairs. We were a little early so had decided to get a cold drink before entering the Theatre the bar was very busy and as we made our way to the end of the bar there was a jug of iced water with some plastic cups do you could help yourself to a drink. The bar and the seating area looked very nice and there was coffee and cake available as well as alcoholic drinks. I just really had a great 1st visit to HOME and would definitely go again.

User

There's so much to love about here.

The food. The staff. The variety of art and cinema. The ales. And not offensively priced for the quality of the food and ale they serve.

I frequent here often for many purposes. I'm always in favour of what's HOME have to offer everybody. Next... another Theatre show after a superb night of dining!

User

Thank you to HomeMcr for providing us with the perfect venue for our festive family fun day. It started with Muppets Christmas Carol and your staff ensured that my mum, who is visually impaired, had the perfect seat to maximise her comfort and vision of the film. Lunch followed and 7 of us were seated and attended to in a friendly and efficient way serving freshly prepared meals off a vast menu that were well presented and tasted wonderful. The ice rink outside the venue meant we didn’t have to travel far to extend our day out - though on this occasion the weather got the better of us. All in all a fabulous day and I would highly recommend a visit very soon. Congratulations to all the staff on a job well done. Happy Christmas x

User

Possibly the best place in the world... great indie cinema with some incredible films showing. Layed back atmosphere, great to hang out and have a beer!

User

Love this space. Haven’t used the cinema but have the theatre several times. Most recent was Othello/MacBeth which was brilliantly done!

The restaurant is excellent too.

User

Its great to have a very modern Theatre and Cinema complex that is so easy to get to with a tram stop just across the road. There is always a varied mix of things to see and do there, its more comfortable and less rushed than other places.

User

I went to see Aziz Ibrahim last night and what a great intimate venue it is. The acoustics were superb. It is a great place to meet people and offers a really wide variety of entertainment, books, artwork and a really good café and bar. Definitely going back.

User

I love the contemporary building, we came to the animation event and me and my son loved it. We also enjoyed the cinnamon bun at the cafe..great service all round.

Will stay for lunch next time.

Thanks

User

Have been several times to cinema here and really liked the vibe. They show some films that aren't doing the rounds at the chains which are top drawer but not necessarily main stream. Last night went to the theatre in the same building to see Uncle Vanja and it didn't disappoint. Great theatre, friendly staff, superb production, gifted cast. It's a gem, it really is. Will be back for more. Bravo!

User

Cinemas have excellent sound and plenty of room. The food in the restaurant is generally good and the service idfriendly and helpful. Prepare to be challenged in the theatre! The whole building has a feeling of artiness without being aloof.

User

Careful selection of movies, great facilities, friendly staff. We've only gone to the cinema and gallery so far but we are definitely going to music and theatre events in the future.

User

Been a fan of Home for years. A super choice of art house as well as commercial films. Live music events are informal & fun. Recently visited the folk music event. Good facilities & always enjoy the food.

User

Absolutely gem of a cinema. Have been here to watch several movies from Korean and Japanese cinema I would otherwise not have been able to watch on the big screen. The food in the first floor restaurant was excellent, with the service to match. To top it all off, the place has a generous selection of draught and bottled lagers and beers which you can enjoy alongside your movie (providing it's put into a plastic cup). 5/5, will be looking forward to my next visit.

User

The play Return to Reims was good in parts but I wasn't able to work out why a woman was reading the book written by a gay man. More confusing she then went into a story about her German grandfather. The play covered aspects of class and politics in France & Germany without offering any solutions or even clarification why poor people would change from voting communist to supporting the national front. The middle section with some very poor rap was probably intended as a diversion. It seemed totally irrelevant. So a work in progress rather than a masterpiece.

User

I came to the amazing PoRe (Portraits of Recovery) Unseen performance and Film "The Lost Weekend" They were amazing and moving pieces of unapologetic art. Can't fault the venue or staff as they were all lovely. It's all very expensive and out of reach for the huge number of people living in poverty. Even the location is a bit of a trek from much public transport, so not brilliant for people with limited health/mobility. A very shiny thing. Wish I and my peers could come more often

User

Love the cinema.. .. I stop by most times I come to Manchester.. Went yesterday for a drink. Someone went to take glass away when I wasnt finished. Wasn t even asked. Came for something to eat today. Laughing at a customer isn't Good.

User

Almost twice the price of a cinema chain for lower quality. Queues... uncomfortable chairs... no reserved seats...Price is too Switzerland and service too Cuba. I guess that's why Marx is outside; like in all comunisms, just the ones at the top are happy... I wouldn't mind the price and the weaker quality of sound and image, if they had reserved seats -so no queues, and more comfortable seating.

User

3 time of eating there. Not been impressed on any occasion but yesterday they brought out good in a takeaway box and we had to ask for plates and cutlery, the bun for the burger was stale and the fries were cold. Won't be bothering again.
