excellent service and really friendly funny staff, we have a night baby free and they've made our night my partner asked for a Tupperware to put her food in to take home as she was full and one of the staff come back with a big box defiantly be coming here again Sophie Grimes

We were there with the 3 Grandchildren for Saturday lunch. The 2 larger children's meals were great value and plenty for them to eat. We also had a full monty mixed grill, a jacket with Chilli & a Macaroni cheese.Great value at £35 with a drink each for 5. Also we overheard that they had staff off sick and can honestly say the service was excellent.

User

Went to the obs tonight...meal lovely - very fresh, hot and tasty!! Well worth the money. New manager seems lovely, approachable and enthusiastic

User

Treated to a late lunch today, the food was really enjoyable and service excellent; our waiter was Archie, what a treasure, made our visit! So nice to be able to leave a good review. :)

User

Just been with my other half and had big plate special ' the new Yorker was lovely very tasty and fast service nice young lad asking if we was ok , great place with good staff

User

food was ok , but there were only 2 members of staff working on a Saturday lunch time , so waiting time was ridicules ( not the young girls fault ) the place is full but no staff !!

User

We have always been frequent customers at The Observatory because of its family friendly and relaxing atmosphere.

But I don't know who is managing this establishment since it's refurbishment but they certainly aren't doing a very good job!

We booked for a party of 12 last night in the family side for 6:30pm it took over 20mins to get a drink at the bar.

Both sides where rammed full and who ever is managing the place only had 2 - yes 2 bar staff on duty on a Saturday evening. Unacceptable and unbelievable. The two staff where absolutely run ragged.

Then it took another 10 mins to order food. We were told at this point that there was a 45min wait on the food. It was over an hour later that we got our food and then we had to send three meals back - all Chicken Skewers!

One set was totally cremated to the point of incineration and he other two where completely the wrong type.

The waitress was very obliging and got it sorted but she took the sizzling platter away and left the sides! Bizarre when I order a dish I like to eat it together not in instalments.

On a positive note for the first time ever my husbands steak was cooked as requested, which really was a pleasant surprise as it's usually massively over cooked.

Felt so sorry for the customer facing staff on duty last night. Management you seriously need to buck your ideas up as you are not doing this place any favours!

Went in on a Friday night for a meal and stood in a queue at the bar(which I hate) for 15 mins not moving. Watching people walk up to the bar at the front(probably regulars)and the 3 bar staff serving them while checking the queue was not looking at them absolute joke . Very unprofessional. Pub has Cheap meals but very under staffed. Not recommended.

I ordered four meals. One chicken and mushroom pie was lovely. One 5oz rump steak was good. Two 12oz rump steaks they were both cold. Complained about both 12oz rump steaks. They re-cooked them. We ordered medium they both came out rare, dripping in blood. Sent them back. Waiting for third attempt and they wanted to just re-heat them, or they just needed to be drained off better ( but they were dripping in blood). Received third steak and both of them were barely warm. Sent them both back and asked for cash refund. We were told that it meats meets the legal probe temperature. But why were two steaks barley warm but the chios were red hot. You eat a chip and the steak tastes Ice cold.

It comes to something when the 5oz rump steak was left on the table for 15 minutes and that was still hotter than all three attempts of the two 12oz steaks. We were told that the 5oz medium cooked steak would be hotter than a 12oz medium cooked steak.

Also ordered four pints of Abbot Ale and all four pints, which two people drank and both said that it doesn't taste like Abbot and all four pints taste sour. Excuse was that it has stood for 19 days.

Compensation was a free drink for two people and the requested refund for the two steaks.

Only received the money for the two steaks and no apology; as far as they were concerned the two 12oz steaks, the first and third attempted were cooked correctly at legal temperature. Within two minutes of leaving the kitchen it was 2 degrees below legal serving temperature. The steaks were on the table for 1 minute and it was cold. But the temperature in the pub is 25 degrees and the distance from our table to the kitchen is 14 foot. All three attempts the plates were red hot for both steaks.

I live locally and use the Ob regularly. I feel that in the past I've defended the place. I hate this saying.... but it is what it is. If you want fine dining then this isn't for you, however if you want some where to eat and have a few with your family it should be perfect. Tonight though it's just taken the piss.

I've been on call all week and have been dying for a pint and a meal with my kids and wife. Usually its.. well ok. It's close you see. We arrived and found some where to sit. Right next to a management meeting, I think. Right when everyone is trying to get their tea... daft time I thought. However the pub was fairly quiet. There we one lad serving behind the bar, whilst 6 managers were discussing uniforms.

The lad behind the bar was just fed up. He was completely out of his depth... I hope... as he was the rudest, most sarcastic barman I've ever met. I felt sorry for him. However, there was no need to be like the way he was. So much so that we set up a tab and decided to leave. We're at the Oak now. If only because... well we feel welcome.

Come the Ob. Sort it out. I really want to love you but you make it so hard.

User

Been twice in the past few months and both times I've been told by staff that I HAVE to remove my hat/cap that I was wearing, first time I was actually approached by multiple staff members as soon as I walked in the door, which is a very intimidating way to welcome people in to your pub. Yet both times there are other people in there wearing hats/caps, all of whom were aged 40+, but they're never told to remove theirs. I feel this is a bit of discrimination towards me because of my age and don't think it is acceptable. Besides this big problem, the food is normally nice and it's a nice pub which I enjoy coming to, just a shame I don't feel welcome

Where do I start!

17 of us came on the 25th January for a birthday .

1) we were told no kids £1 menu , even though it was on the website!

2) Dirty cutlery

3)no fish

4)no milk shake

5) all the starters were cold -they all got taken away and not returned!

6)we were all overcharged but the till had no receipt in so we couldn’t check it!

7) mains came , curry was cold , we had asked for a manager to be told he was upstairs in a meeting!

8)I spoke to the manager and he agreed it wasn’t on as our whole night was ruined we had spent £120 so we agreed he would send me vouchers out ! Still waiting I got back in touch several times to be told someone would ring me back and sort it out ! Surprise, surprise still waiting! One very unhappy customer!

Visited yesterday. Got there late because my daughters autistic and wanted a quiet meal with the family. Checked the website which said they served food til 10pm. Went to order food to be told they stopped serving food at 9, "Sorry we keep meaning to update the website". I asked a staff member for a kids menu just before and he went and got one failing to mention they stopped serving food. So my daughter had a meltdown when she had to leave. Really put me off, wont be going again. Plus it wasnt long after 9, somebody was eating in there still, they should have took the order .

User

So sick of complaining. After so many chances and complaints to management still no consistency. Tried a different meal on the 2 courses tonight and sides where cold. Husband ordered me a starter with my meal and a dessert with his. After our mains i went to the bar and ordered myself a dessert to be served with his. I finished mine before his turned up and we asked 3 members of staff about it before it was brought out. He had the candymania but what a disappointment no vanilla just chocolate ice cream a tiny bit of cookie, no twix, 3 Maltesers and a few Smarties. Think this is definitely going to be our last visit.

User

I gotta say DISGUSTING

i am a contractor who travels around the uk and visit various hungry horse pubs without ever an issue but this one is the pits.

Struggled to get served.

Live singer singing yards from water dripping through the ceiling with buckets underneath.

Toilets a disgrace. ( heard a lady complaining about state of toilets, no toilet roll in any cubicle, sanitary towel in the sink e.t.c.) do these toilets ever get cleaned.

A lad dealing drugs openly in the pool side of pub.

I could just go on and this is the first and LAST time i will enter this hovel, would hate to see what the MANAGERS living quarters look like the scruffy bastard

User

Disappointed that despite both your own website and google stating you open at 10 on a Saturday for breakfast - your doors remained closed and when we called we were told by vicki you weren’t opening until 11.... it was made even better that we were stood waiting in the rain. Incredible customer service... not!

User
