Il Forno Description
Why is Il Forno Liverpool’s most admired Italian restaurant? We know that delicious food should be at the heart of life - and we settle for nothing less. With outstanding modern and classic Italian dishes, we offer something for everyone. Our ingredients are sourced from the finest Italian growers. Our chefs prepare each dish using only authentic recipes and skills, fresh for you each day - and bursting with passion and flavour. From its sun-drenched farmhouses, fields and vineyards, we bring you a taste of the true Italy.
Why? Because you’re not just savouring the best fresh pasta, made in the restaurant that day. You’re not simply tasting our own brand of fine olive oil, drizzled over the perfect pizza crust or cured meats and hams. You’re enjoying the culture of real Italian cooking. Cooking that Italian families have shared with passion and joy for centuries.
We find that time, and love for authentic food, makes all the difference. It’s not about ‘prestige’. It’s about simple, rustic dishes, full of outstanding flavours, textures and scents. It’s about friendly, warm service, unpretentious and unobtrusive. And to eat as the Italians eat - to enjoy the warmth and life of their table - can only truly be achieved with patience. So, we cook for you with the care we cook for ourselves. If we don’t love a dish, we simply won’t serve it.
It takes time to find the best restaurant team from Italy, all of them as much in love with great food as you are. It takes time to find Italian chef Paolo Cillo. He breathes a lifetime of inspiration - and the culture of Italian home-cooking - into our dishes. So, these are recipes that are tasted, perfected and crafted over years. Recipes from Italian homes, and family dinner tables. They’re not recreations - they’re the life and soul of Italy itself.
It takes time to install traditional Italian equipment, like our gourmet homemade stone baked pizza ovens, perfect for our authentic stone-baked pizzas. Or our ice-cream maker, creating the smoothest Italian gelatos on the premises, to our private recipes - and only with fresh ingredients, like the ripest fruit and the purest cream.
It takes time to meet our suppliers in person, exploring their artisan produce and its provenance across Italy. And, to support dedicated British farmers from the surrounding region, finding quality beef and chicken in the UK. Tasting every ingredient, from peperone to parmesan. Rooting-out local delights, like Il Forno’s exclusive extra virgin olive oil or our southern Italian pasta flour. Like our beautiful anti-pasti, gorgeously prepared, and a revelation to eat.
It takes time waiting for every ingredient to grow, ripen, and reach its fullest flavour. Waiting for experts to prepare each cut of cured meat, and mature each cheese until it’s perfect. Because we only serve in-season food, fresh to your plate, we think it’s worth every single moment. It’s about honest, fresh ingredients - and you can taste the difference they make.
That’s why Il Forno is called one of the best Italian restaurants in the UK. Not just by ‘The Times’ or numerous award bodies, but by Italian chef Antonio Carluccio himself. They know that we offer a welcome as warm and hospitable as our dishes. With impressive service, and an ambiance our diners adore.
Because we take the time, you’ll be amazed.

Went on Thursday night food was amazing my man had lasagne and a pizza well he is Italian and said the pizza was just like one from home so that is a good review in Its self as he is particular about his food haha, I had steak and it was lovely no complaints from me defo be back again. Hopefully bring some of our families next time, would recommend it if looking for somewhere nice to go. Added a few pics of the night x
We have not dined at Il forno for some time and were so glad we visited last night!
We had a really enjoyable meal everything was so nice In particular the seafood linguine I had was delicious, we enjoyed all our 3 courses,
And the huge chocolate dessert was so nice we shared!
Great friendly service by Alfonso who looked after us so well and made us feel very welcome Thankyou!
we had forgotten how great the restaurant was! And the big open stone oven, we took a chocolate pizza home for our son,
Thankyou all at Il forno
Try to get a long weekend at least once a season to see my team. il Forno is always our choice for dinner on the Friday night. It's fabulous, food, service, drinks, atmosphere all fantastic. We sometimes think maybe we should try somewhere else, but why? This place is just perfect!!
This restaurant is amazing, every dish we tried was delicious and the service was the best I’ve had in a long time. They went out of their way to help. I would travel over 2 hours again just to eat at this restaurant, so worth it.
Stepped into the restaurant as a last minute decision post watching the football not knowing what to expect.
What a choice! Absolutely brilliant.. great service and great food! Will definitely be going there again when in a liverpool again!
Thank you so much for the care and service you provided
Lovely restaurant, Lovely food and excellent atmosphere with live traditional Italian music. If the restaurant is full you are located in a waiting area where you can have some drinks , i was recommended by some friends and certainly enjoyed my visit , definitely returning.
Its so nice to find a family run restaurant that offers freshly cooked imaginative food at reasonable prices, excellent well made cocktails and a comprehensive wine list. Attentive service too we will definitely return.
Great food and service, as a first timer at Il Forno we will definitely be back😊
Food and service excellent. Would go back and highly recommend it
Came here with a group of girls on a recommendation from a friend. It was lush. I love Italian food and this didn't disappoint. We were booked in for 5.00pm but it soon got busy!! Ambience was lovely, service was great. Would definitely visit again the next time I'm in Liverpool.
Called in on Saturday lunch time to celebrate our Anniversary (34yrs) at our favourite restaurant IlForno.
Thanks to Alessio, Fabrizio Stefan and all the staff for looking after us so well.
We had a wonderful meal.
We really recommend this place.
Brilliant night on Saturday evening celebrating my husbands 50th birthday, would highly recommend. Fantastic food and service.
Amazing food, brilliant service - what more do you need to know? Discovered this place by accident purely based on the location where we were stopping.
I highly recommend anyone to try, you won’t be disappointed.
Nice food and atmosphere. Service was very efficient. The waiters gave that true Italian feel, and you can have a bit of banter with them. Nice and informal place to go. We were part of a group of 30 on Sunday.
Called in saturday night looking for a table for 4. We were lucky. I think we got the last table. The service was spot on. I was a little surprise to see my prawn cocktail starter consisting of 3 large prawn arranged on a large plate costing almost 10 quid. My husband had the octopus starter which was lush! I'm definitely having that next time. I had chicken as a main meal and it was nomlicious! I would highly recommend Il Forno. Tasty food, extremely well presented and well executed. A little pricey but well worth it. For me the only down side was the noise. So many diners all talking at once. The place was packed and there was no comprise on quality of food or service. Like I said, spot on. Cheers guys! :)
Pasta was hard, some of the food was cold, over priced. Definitely won’t be visiting again. Not a good evening for my sister. Have recently been told it’s now has a new owned by a Japanese couple. Defo wouldn’t recommend.
Lovely feel to the restaurant, service was good. The food however was disappointing. Lasagne was poor, under seasoned , far to much cheese giving it a greasy taste. The pasta was chewy and filling as stated under seasoned. The carbonara was ok but again the sauce tasted of nothing. The chips were good , ridiculous price as was the garlic bread. We had two large cokes, £9. Crazy money and to cap it off there's a 10% service charge. There are far , far better Italian restaurants in Liverpool. I paid and walked out feeling ripped off. I won't be returning and certainly putting this on my blog as a miss
Had to wait for a table Friday night even after booking. Had to send back my lasagne twice as cold in the middle! Won't be rushing back. Gave us free bottle of wine as a gesture which was good but as I was driving it made no difference to me and I still had to pay for full price
What a shame lovely restaurant but food was such a let down. Pasta was hard and undercooked had to send it back, service was poor practically non existent. No effort from the staff, will not be returning.
