We have been back in the shop since yesterday and are hard at work helping customers who have been unlucky enough to have experienced dying computers over Christmas.

We would like to wish you all very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Before we close this year, we just wanted to give you a heads up on this nasty unwanted program, Reimage Repair, that pretends to improve your system. It seems to be doing the rounds. It does exactly the opposite to what it says and they even try to make you pay for it! Please contact us in the new year if you need help removing it.

This week we are helping customers who have looming university and college deadlines and whose computers have stopped working. The picture below shows an error regarding a hard drive that needs replacing as it is causing the system to freeze.
Please remember to always back up your work!

This MacBook was brought into us with a faulty keyboard after a liquid spill. Although this was quite a difficult job. We managed to remove the old keyboard and replace it with a new one, the MacBook is now fully working again and the customer is very happy as it saved them buying a new one.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be sharing some tips on how to stay safe online from fraud. Today’s tip is about passwords. It is really important NOT to have a password that can In anyway be associated with you, so for example a partners name a street you live in, anything like that can be guessed by criminals. Our advise is to make it random words that are really hard to guess.

Thinking about getting a Black Friday deal online? Read this. A few other tips from us as well: make sure you check for https (not http) in the address bar or a padlock symbol when making payments or disclosing payment details.

This is a laptop charging port we have replaced for a customer as their laptop would no longer charge or turn on, as you can see the top one has been completely destroyed internally and the one bellow is the new one we fitted. This can be caused by pulling on the cable whilst it’s plugged usually by someone tripping over the cable. Do you have a similar issue? Don’t hesitate to contact us.

This poor lady lost a lot of money in a matter of minutes.
The scammers can be very convincing and will seem very genuine and concerned and seem like they are your best friend trying to help you.

Hannah our Apprentice is currently doing a Linux course and learning about the Linux operating system (specifically, Kali Linux) Hannah completed the Cisco Linux Essentials course last year so She knows the basics already. The screenshot shows Hannah working on the Linux virtual machine in the command line (where you give the computer commands in writing rather than clicking on buttons), she has just upgraded the system and asked it to tell me what version it is running. Keep up the good work Hannah.

Today Hannah is carrying out specialist data recovery for a customer whose motherboard has died. Her computer will not boot anymore and she needs a special database to be backed up and rebuilt.

A laptop was bought into us today and is experiencing problems with continuous shutdowns. We opened up the laptop and quickly found out that it was clogged up with dust, which was causing the laptop to overheat and shut down. Laptops are especially prone to this as people tend to use them on their laps- the fibres from your clothes get sucked into the fan and create a mass of dust inside the laptop (see before and after pictures). If you are experiencing any problems like this, pop in and one of our friendly team will be able to help.
