Kendal & Cumbria Open Ferret Show

Our aim is to revive and revitalise the showing
of ferrets in Cumbria and beyond.

In 2015, Cyril & Kath Winder with Len Buckley and Darren Troughton got together with a mind to keep the Ferret Show alive in our neck of the woods and appeal to a wider network. Our first Show was on the 20th September 2015 and was such a success, that we decided to carry on and produce two Shows a year.
In 2017 the Shows will be on 23 April and 15 October.

The Show is “Open” by way of being open to entrants from Kendal, Cumbria and beyond. Is “open” to pet, working and rescued ferrets, and finally “open” to the way the Judges judge in a semi circle with the audience able to look on.

We are very fortunate to be well supported by Alpha Feeds with their Ferret Feast. It’s the ferrets’ favourite and goes down well with the owners too!

We are again fortunate to be a qualifying Show for the British Ferret Club’s Championship held at Chatsworth every year. Our “Best in Show” and “Reserve” details go forward to the Club for their inclusion in their Show.

There are 14 serious qualifying Competition Classes with 4 Miscellaneous and 6 Fun Classes. All the Fun Classes are judged by our able Team of Junior Judges. It works very well and is good training for the youngsters in the future!

There are rosettes to 3 places in every Class plus Championship rosettes and trophies (can be engraved and kept for 6 months) for “Best in Show” and “Reserve” in the Competitive Classes. There is a trophy and Championship rosettes too for the "Best in Show Fun Classes" & "Reserve”.

We believe we are the first Ferret Show to introduce a trophy for "Best Angora in Show" plus rosettes for the Champion and Reserve. Although to date the British Ferret Club does not recognise this class, we believe there is a calling to acknowledge the angoras!

We award our Junior Handlers with a trophy after asking relevant questions about ferret husbandry.

All trophies are to be returned after 6 months by bring them along to the next show or by post.

During the Show and to keep everything going there are savory filled bread baps & homemade cakes plus hot and cold drinks.

So come and join us for our Shows. You will receive a warm welcome, a good clat and the chance to make new friends in the ferret community. Visitors are just as welcome, and will receive the same warm spirit.
