One of the premier bars and restaurants in Windermere, located in the heart of the Lake District The Lamplighter Dining ~ Rooms has been trading now for over 21 years. Restaurants come and go but our focus on quality and customer service has set us aside from many other Lake District Restaurants. Whether popping in for a snack at lunch, indulging in our unique Sunday lunch experience or a full four course meal in the evening, The Lamplighter offers a great selection of not only food and beverage but also locations in which to dine to suite all tastes. Dine in the cosy bar with the fire blazing on a cold winters evening or the high ceilinged Victorian restaurant, the choice is yours. The Windermere restaurant scene has much to offer, for the very best in home-cooked locally sourced produce you simply have to try The Lamplighter Dining ~ Rooms. The Lamplighter Dining ~ Rooms is located in the heart of Windermere Village, The Lake District. This charming Victorian building is part of Lakeland’s heritage. The hotel offers comfortable accommodation with a total of 9 bedrooms the majority of which have en-suite facilities as well as our four poster room set in a relaxed warm and friendly atmosphere.
The Lamplighter Dining ~ Rooms offers the very best in accommodation in the Lake District. With all of the guests bedrooms recently refurbished, we have been sympathetic to the Victorian heritage of this traditional Lakeland stone building dating back to 1865. The Lamplighter is a family run hotel and as such has a cosy and welcoming feel that sets us aside from many Lake District Hotels with personal levels of customer service delivered in an unobtrusive manner. Located in the heart of the accommodation hub that is the Lake District, Windermere village offers a slightly quieter and more refined pace. Aptly named the gateway to The Lake District it is the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding area. Only a short walk from Lake Windermere and 2 minutes from Windermere Station we are set back slightly from the main village with only a minute or so walk to the local shops.

We can say that they all have the cordials in them and the first one is called the "Garden Martini" and the other "Rhubarb and Custard"! Can you guess which ones they are?

Plated Sunday lunch From £16.95 per person at The Lamplighter Dining ~ Rooms
Following the exceptional popularity of our critically acclaimed (Reviewed by food writer Jay Rayner) Sunday lunch experience and knowing that not everyone is able to plan in advance we have launched our plated Sunday lunch that does not require that you pre-order. From Sunday 3rd December 2017. We will still be offering our bespoke Sunday lunch in the main restaurant with the afore mentioned plated... option available in the Lounge area at the front of the hotel only.
Available every Sunday, choose from:
Roast breast of chicken at £16.95 per person
Ballotine of lamb at £18.95 per person
Roast Sirloin of beef at £18.95 per person
All served with Roast potatoes, Carrot and swede mash, Honey Roast parsnips,
Seasonal greens, Cauliflower cheese, Rich gravy
And last but by no means least our giant Yorkshire Puddings cooked a la minute in their own skillet pan.

Windermere Christmas Celebration we will be hosting all of the entertainment over the weekend and will also be hosting a food stall and pop up bar. With food and beverage available both inside and out whatever the weather The Lamplighter has it all.
This may be a little depressing for some (based on the time of year) but we have opened our diary for Christmas Day lunch at The Lamplighter and in 5 days are already 40% booked and have only 5 rooms remaining. What a lovely place, the staff were all lovely and friendly, couldn't do enough for you. We got a nice warm welcome, the room was beautiful and very clean, very comfortable bed too �. Food and cocktails was amazing!!! We will definitely be returning.
What a great place.. we have arrived after a long 7 hour drive and couldn’t be happier! A lovely warm welcome.. not only from the open log fire! We couldn’t fault the dinner, great wine and excellent service - we would love to return again and would highly recommend - I have to admit to hardly ever reviewing anywhere but this needed to be done! 5 �
We only discovered this gem on our last day of a week long stay in The Lake District and were surprised to learn that our dog was welcome to join us for breakfast.
Exceptional value for money, top quality food cooked and presented beautifully in very pleasant, comfortable surroundings.
Nothing was too much trouble. Will return without a doubt.
The best meal by far we had in the lakes and staff are extremely friendly and attentive. Excellent all around.
Sunday lunch absolutely amazing! Sirloin of beef tender and tasted lovely, as did all of the accompanying veg. Yorkshire pudding was out of this world. Staff were lovely too. A total all rounder this place.

Booked for a short break. Ideal location only a few minutes from Windermere centre. Clean comfortable bedroom. Tea/Coffee making facilities. Parking is somewhat limited however we we're lucky throughout our stay in regard to this. The bar area is bright and spacious. Drinks are average price. An extensive cocktail menu is available (very innovative and creative bar manager!!) Soda water and lime like I have never had! We dinned two nights in the Lamplighter. On both occasions we were accommodated in the bar area as we had our dog with us and the dining rooms do not allow dogs. (I was completely happy with this). The menu is varied and reasonably priced in accordance with the good quality produce being used. The staff are all knowledgeable about what is being served, which is refreshing, and can give a good account/description of what's on the menu, specials etc. On both evenings we dinned there our meals were delicious. Would highly recommend the lamb and the steak.
'Thunder and lightening' a delight if you want to finish your meal on a sweet note! Superb cheese board with nice selection including local produce. Perhaps one of the most important parts about one's stay is the staff and how they interact with guests. I can honestly say I have never met a more pleasant team of people. All the staff are genuinely friendly, courteous, helpful, efficient and basically couldn't do enough for you.
In summary, this is a super place for exploring the Lake District.

Only popped in for one drink but the ambience, music and the bar ladies were so nice we stayed for two, I even was given a try of the wine before I bought, nothing is too much trouble here, we'll be back. Thanks for looking after us x
My wife and I stayed two nights for our wedding anniversary, room was clean tidy and well maintained, food in restaurant exceptional, staff very friendly and helpful, great choice of drinks in Art Deco themed lounge bar , extensive choice of breakfast too . Ideally situated at top of town , parking outside, would recommend a stay if you are looking for a quality getaway, definitely considering staying again !
My second visit to the restaurant whilst staying in The Lakes, my partners first. The food is fantastic, & the staff very welcoming, knowledgeable & friendly. We will definitely return, hopefully with a stay!

Every single member of staff were polite,helpful and charming. All parts of the building were immaculately clean and the decor was an excellent mix of modern and traditional. Because we always take our dog Albert with us on our trips, we are often seated in a not so nice part of a restaurant, however at the Lamplighter, all areas are of the same very high standard. The food was to die for great local produce cooked to perfection. The also have a great selection of Gins which I must say is my favourite tipple. Four nights was just not enough and we will definitely be returning.�
Beautiful amazing people, food & service. We were met by the front of house guy who was so welcoming. We had a couple of cocktails in the bar and were offered the menu in preparation for our reservation. When showed to the table they had taken up on my request when booking that it was an xmas present dinner date for my partner so they sprinkled rose petals and gave us the best table. The staff couldn’t do enough. The food was outstanding. All staff that waited on us worked seamlessly. A truly special occasion. Would definitely go again. In fact can’t wait �

Great food with a good portion slightly let down by vegetables not arriving with the meal then when asked for they came as I finished my meal(it would have gone cold if I had waited) but well done on everything else.
Fantastic staff all really friendly helpful and polite. Our evening meal was lovely well presented and plentiful. The fillet steak was cooked to perfection and the tastiest that I have had. Good choice for breakfast again excellent , with locally sourced meat. The bathroom was spacious clean and all looked new, our bedroom was a little on the small side and could maybe do with a lick of paint. All in all a lovely stay and will definitely visit again. Thank you for your hospitality.
Beautiful building and surroundings. Rooms very spacious and clean. Breakfast was one of the best I've tasted with the use of local produce. Would of been a 5 ⭐️ rating only for the manger to let it down by his arrogance to not talk or acknowledge me and my wife but to talk to all the guests. This is a regular thing now to the people that serve your country and for that would not pay my custom there again.
