We need to talk about 'elf' and safety! Make sure you don’t leave presents blocking doors so you can still get out of house if there is a fire. #ChristmasSafetyCountdown

At 20:55, the Service received multiple calls indicating there was a commercial building on fire on Frank Street, Preston. Four fire engines were mobilised to the incident and on arrival immediately made the response up to eight fire engines and an aerial ladder platform due to the size of the fire and difficultly in accessing the site. One of the businesses affected by the fire was a second-hand car dealer and a number of vehicles were involved in the fire which created sev...eral loud bangs. The fire spread to commercial units and Operation Merlin after an hour due to the smoke plume affecting several houses and a mosque on Kent Street. The people evacuated went to family and friends’ homes and there was no need for a rest centre to be set up. In total, 14 fire engines, three aerial ladder platforms and a drone went to the incident. By 01:00, the fire surround message had been sent and by 01:30, Operation Merlin had been stood down and residents were able to return to their homes. Overnight, the number of fire engines at the scene will be reduced to six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform. The Service was well supported by partners including North West Ambulance Service and Lancashire Police who closed St George’s Road, Kent Street and Southgate. The cause of the fire is now under investigation and an Incident Intelligence Officer will return to the scene on Saturday morning. No injuries were reported.

Get prepared for Christmas and clean your oven and hob. A build-up of fat and grease may catch fire. Follow our Keep it Clean, Keep it Clear advice and keep that goose fat for your potatoes only! https://bit.ly/2yZ0Hlr #ChristmasSafetyCountdown

User

It’s so nice to have people altogether at Christmas and your house soon has as many people inside it as Asda on Christmas Eve! Make sure any visitors who are staying at your house over the Christmas period know the escape route in case there is a fire. https://bit.ly/2w8NkxK #ChristmasSafetyCountdown

Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services has today published the findings of its first round of inspections. We're very proud of our results, particularly that we are the only fire and rescue service in the first round to be given an outstanding rating 😊 https://goo.gl/26cBWE

Baby it's cold outside! Please try and visit older relatives, friends and neighbours over the holiday period to check that they have smoke alarms fitted and their house is warm enough.

User

Make sure your car is prepared for any long journeys to visit family and friends over the holiday period. Check the tread depth and pressure of your cars.

Plan your escape route. This may not only come in handy when Uncle Geoff and co make their annual Christmas visit, Grandma has eaten too many sprouts or Dad’s singing has got out of control but most importantly in case there is a fire in the home. https://bit.ly/2w8NkxK

The whole street doesn’t need to be kept awake by your winter wonderland extravaganza. Don’t be that person; turn your Christmas tree lights off before going to bed or leaving the house. Not only will it keep you safe but it’ll save you a bob or too on the leccie costs!

Make sure the only thing smoking this Christmas is you looking fiiiine in that Christmas jumper! Avoid smoking in the house if you have been drinking or are tired. If you do smoke ensure your cigarette is extinguished fully before going to bed. https://bit.ly/2C6d6G5

Our crews don’t want to turn out to a scene from something out of Die Hard. Have a designated driver who is drinking soft drinks only or get a taxi if you are planning on getting merry this Christmas. And remember you could still be over the limit the following morning. An estimated 740 reported drink drive collisions took place in the morning, and around 5,500 people fail breath tests between 6am and midday every year.

Make sure your car has all the ice removed before setting off on your journey for school or work and your windscreen is clear from ice, snow and condensation. It is illegal to drive with poor visibility as stated by the Highway Code. #ChristmasSafetyCountdown

At some point you’ve probably bought someone a fridge magnet which says “I cook with wine; sometimes I even add it to the food.’ However we ask you not to be tempted to cook when you have been drinking. Order a takeaway instead and let someone else do the hard work 😉 #ChristmasSafetyCountdown

The team were great and even though mid rescue the wind blew my door off and almost took a fighter to Oz everyone remained safe and well!!!! Things are just things thankyou so much ( and I have shiny new smoke alarms) get them fitted!!!!!

User

Thankyou so much for everything you've done to control the wildfire on winter hill. It was still blazing at 3am this morning but it seems to now just be smouldering at 6 am.

User

Thank you too all services fighting the Rivington/Nab fires. You are all hero's.

User

Thank you to the wonderful members of the Preston team who rescued our Patterdale Holly. She had been trapped for over 10 hours in a hole along the Darwen river. Darkness would be descending soon and water was rising so we had no choice but to call the calvary, especially since we weren't making progress. Within a couple of hours of the Preston team arriving, our girl was saved! An extra special thanks to Sam would was literally roped in to get Holly. <3

User

Thank you to the fire service for being swift at arriving to a fire on my street(Nelson) this evening and dealing with it swiftly and safely and even afterward with allowing my daughter to sit in the truck. You and all our emergency services are heroes and I am so great full for you all.

User

Thank you to the Nelson fire men for inviting my little boy onto their truck today in Colne, it was his first time seeing one close up however they were so friendly and welcoming such lovely people so thank you.

Thank you from this very grateful Horwich resident. The work you are doing up Winter Hill is truly appreciated.

User

Thank you Lancashire Fire & Rescue Chorley for being very kind and patient with my children this evening. Neighbours of my parents had a fire which needed attending and my 5 and 4 year old loved watching the engines in action and the crew were very kind talking to the kids and even letting them try the fire hose when they were packing up. Really appreciate the attention given

My shop is close to winter hill. In Chorley where the fire is. On Eaves Lane 190. I have seen in the news that there are over a 100 firefighters fighting the fire. Its dangerous and very difficult. As a good will gesture and to support the menand women. Please come any time to the shop for a free cut. ..hopefully we will have some rain soon and then the offer will be invalid!! Many Thanks AL.. please share to your staff...

User

I'd like to say thank you to the Hyndburn team who came within minutes to a house fire on my block of terraced houses in Rishton yesterday. My first experience of a fire threatening my home and they sorted everything with the minimum of fuss.

My special thanks to Firefighter Lawes who inspected my loft with a thermal camera and was tremendously reassuring.

User

I was just out gardening with my youngest son when a fire engine pulled up outside our neighbours to do a smoke alarm fitting. My son immediately wanted to go and see the fire engine. The crew were brilliant espically Stuart howarth. (I think his badge said)

He let my son climb in the back and talked him through all the different equipment. He showed him the water hoses and how they work, and all the equipment used to cut people from cars, etc. He really was fab, and my son has come in talking all about it very excited! I can't say he was impressed when I told him I'd just ripped down our wired smoke alarm and was waiting for it to be fixed, so he gave us a battery one to put up until the other is sorted. They already do an amazing job, but taking time like that with kids just makes them even better. Well done Lancashire fire and rescue

User

I thank they are heroes such as hard work keeping them fires at bay I was surprised that the fires are in Lancashire, where I live but luckily live in the part of Lancs that not affected

User

I had to call the fire service yesterday due to my washing machine starting to burn. Luckily, I caught it in time, but the fire crew was fantastic, reassuring me that I hadn't wasted their time and had done the right thing in ringing. They even disconnected the machine and took it outside for me, before then fitting 2 smoke alarms and running through a fire safety talk, which was an eye opener. Can't thank them enough for their reassurance, help and friendliness. These guys are worth their weight in gold.
