About Laura'S Loom

Welcome to Laura's Loom, a weaver based in the Yorkshire Dales creating beautiful fabrics from locally sourced wool.

Laura'S Loom Description

Welcome to Laura's Loom
I am an artisan weaver based in the lovely market town of Sedbergh in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Inspired by the subtle colours and textures of Britain’s northern landscapes, I design and weave scarves and throws, fabrics for cushions and other interior accessories, and I sell a range of British wool yarns spun from locally sourced fleece.

I work with spinners, weavers, dyers and cloth finishers across the north of England and the Scottish Borders to produce my British wool products. I can also be commissioned to weave a wide variety of fabrics by hand, working from Farfield Mill in Sedbergh where I weave on a 20 year old Harrisville floor loom.

Laura’s Loom celebrates the craft of weaving and Britain’s tremendous woollen heritage. Welcome to my world, come on in, pick up some woolly goodness and be inspired!

It's so exciting to know that I can continue to base my business at Farfield Mill, Sedbergh and continue to support the wool and weaving heritage of Sedbergh Market Town. Thanks to the support of hundreds of people, from all over the UK and well beyond our shores, who believe that this Mill is a real asset to our community and has an important part to play in art and craft education, we have raised over £300,000 in just 8 short weeks. Very few believed it could be done but we did it. The share offer remains open until November 30th. Every contribution helps.

£302,460 - and still growing - what an incredible outpouring of support there has been this week. People really believe in the Mill and all it can offer. Hurray! And not forgetting the people who've made this happen - the Trustees, staff, volunteers and resident artists !!!!

Just 6 days left before the share offer for Farfield Mill, Sedbergh closes - the total tonight stands at an amazing £282,100. Our local community came out in force today to show their support for us on the first day of our Festive Farfield weekend - it was standing room only in the cafe at lunchtime! We now need to raise an average of £3000 per day for each of the next 6 days to get us beyond that magical minimum number of £300k which will release the invested funds for us ...to stay open this winter and start thriving. This 180 year old mill has a 21st century future!
Thank you to all my friends and family who I know have become Mill owners through their generous investments, and to those of you who have invested but I don't know about it.
If you would like to invest here's the link one more time: https://www.ethex.org.uk/FarfieldMill
You can also buy raffle tickets tomorrow - the draw will be in the afternoon, so get over to the Mill and have some mulled wine while you're there!

The Mill now has just £28,000 to raise in the next week to reach its target of £300k. This is amazing progress in the last 10 days. If you can't invest then please come and buy a raffle ticket this weekend and see if you can win one of these fantastic prizes (plus many many more, all donated from other businesses within our supportive #Sedbergh community)! There will be music and mince pies, mulled wine and a wonderful medley of artistic creations to admire.

A fantastic write up from Blue Patch with a mention too of The Black Bull who chose Laura's Loom blankets for all of their lovely bedrooms.

Getting the light right is tricky. I want to show how the colour ripples from side to side while the pattern ripples from top to bottom. Very pleased with overall effect however. 100% #british #wool #handwoven #blanket

This is really good news - the matching grant is now in hand and we still have 22 days to raise another £100k!!! Come on everyone - put your money where your heart is - you know you always wanted to own and run a textile mill! Let's make this work for Sedbergh, for Cumbria, for the Yorkshire Dales and for the future!

I went from science to GIS to weaving - the common thread being pattern analysis

Here's a preview of our resident artists' exhibition at Farfield Mill - Design in the Dales. We hope you'll come and see it and show your support for the creative community at the heart of this wonderful old mill. Enjoy!
