It was a productive session on mat on Tuesday with all three classes🥋
♦️Lots to take for the juniors working on forward rolling break-falls focusing on rolling over the shoulder down the arm, guard turnover and the introduction to O-Uchi-Gari.
♦️After a tough, military style warm up courtesy of Mr Harrison. With the juniors we worked on movement set up for forward/backward throws and combinations. Finishing the session with some randori and fun and games.
... ♦️Finally the senior session started on the ground working on turnovers followed by securing transitions between holds with submissions. Moving to standing we practiced standing techniques with french randori progressing into normal randori.
Well done all. See you back on the mat on Thursday! @ Leigh Judo Club

Some might say a rebirth of Newaza in judo with excellent techniques throughout the year!

♦️Spirit of Judo Award - STEPHANIE GARNER
“A motivated competitor on the judo mat, full of courage and grit. Steph’s toughness is matched only by her kindness and thoughtfulness of others. Always saying hello and greeting people with a smile, Steph often takes it upon herself to approach new members on the mat to make sure they feel welcomed and to let them know they have a new friend. Steph’s technique has developed throughout the year with good performances and results including the qualification for the British National Schools winning her age and weight category as well as those above. Throughout training and competition, Steph’s steely determination and kindness always shines through. Always a pleasure to have on the mat, Steph is a credit to herself, her family and a great representative of the club.”

User

♦️ Special contribution award - JOHN JACQUES
“When he’s not holding his camera, John is a quick footed, dynamic senior member. Throughout the last 24 months John has produced some great competitive results and performances including becoming the PSUK National Champion and more recently earning his line up at an area grading at his first attempt.
Off the mat, John can often be seen (or cannot be seen) blending into the background, ninja walking around the dojo with his camera.... A part-time photographer, John is the main reason for the professional standard of our club images and videos that so many people comment on. Donating his limited time without being asked, John adds considerable value to the club and helps to document memories and showcase what goes on. Always willing to share his experience and knowledge, John is always helping to teach others his methods to help further support the development of the club.”

In all situations Louie always shows courage and conducts himself with honour and humility and is a great example of the other members of the club.”

User

🥋 Senior player of the year - TOM NAGLE
“Openness and dedication are attributes that Tom exemplifies. Those who have the pleasure to train with Tom know of his selfless ego during training as well as his technical understanding. Tom’s stand up judo and technique has developed remarkably over the last 12 months with his consistency and discipline in training paying dividends. After achieving his UKCC Level 2 coaching award earlier this year, throughout the year Tom has traveled in the quest for points towards his Dan grade. Competing in various dan grading events, Tom’s performances have been excellent beating national level judo players. Only requiring 10 points, in December Tom traveled to Warrington achieving the necessary points and then continuing to earn and complete his line up also.”

Another fantastic weekend spent with our judo family.
🍛 On Saturday the seniors descended on Culcheth enjoying warm up drinks in the Cheery Tree before traveling across to the Raj for a great curry followed by fun and laughter in the Culcheth Arms.
🎳 On Sunday our juniors enjoyed some bowling fun and games before going crazy in laser quest. Moving back to the club everyone enjoyed a feast of food and drinks with our annual club awards.
... We hoped everyone enjoyed themselves and thank you to all those who helped.
You are what make it special.
See you back on the mat tomorrow for our final weeks training before Christmas. 🎄

Well done to those seniors competing at the Dan grading on Friday! Some great performances and results. And a special mention to Joe who had the toughest fights out of everyone.
• R E S U L T S
🥋 Tom Nagle gained his 💯 points for Dan grade winning 2 fights then went on to complete his line up also.
... 🥋 Rob Jordan won his first two fights qualifying for his line up and then went on to complete his line up. 💯
🥋 John Jacques fought valiantly winning his first two fights qualifying for line up. He won his 1st fight by wazari so unfortunately it ended his night.
🥋 Barry Williams won his first, lost 2nd (to Tom) and won 3rd fight qualifying him for his line up. Barry won his first 2 line up fights but was caught in his final contest. Nevertheless came away with 40 extra points.
🥋 Last but certainly not least Joe Nordoff fought two tough opponents that outsized him significantly (Rob being the smaller of the two). Determined to fight again Joe was included in a line up but didn’t get the chance to fight unfortunately.
🥋 Jess Martin also attended but unfortunately was the only female competing so didn’t get a fight. Jess did however fight today at Sheffield winking a silver medal.🥈
The effort by all competing was excellent and the team support was unrivalled. Well done!! See you back on the mat on Sunday for some more...

Well what can I say. I started karate when I was 10 years old back in 1991. I tried various other styles and other clubs through the years but other than my original club I've never really found anywhere where I didn't feel out of place. I took my youngest son here and told him I'd give it a go too. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. We were made very welcome by all and it was a pleasure to train there. I'm sure I'm gonna be sore in the morning but we will most definitely be going back.

Great group of people and nice facilities.

So welcoming and helpful and they all really look up to him. Best decision I've made. Highly recommend!
