An opportunity to engage with Kirstie Simson and her passionate interest in the liberating experience of dance, improvisation and the exploration of freedom. Imagine what our relationship would be to dancing if we had no prior notion about what the moving body should look or feel like. Participants work beyond culturally conditioned expectations and other limitations. They will celebrate movement using practices that Kirstie has developed over thirty-five years of teaching dance improvisation.

IMPROVISED VOICE WORKSHOPS with STEVE BOYLAND LIC STUDIO, Liverpool
WORKSHOP DATES; Six weekly sessions 6-8.00pm on successive MONDAYS starting 22nd Jan - 26th Feb
... HARVESTING ECHOES is a series of SIX WORKSHOPS exploring the expressive and compositional possibilities of improvised voice. Devised and led by performer/voice teacher STEVE BOYLAND, these sessions will aim to develop a vocabulary of dynamic, embodied voice which both incorporates and extends beyond the parameters of conventional singing and speech. They will also seek to fix these elements within the context of various approaches to SPONTANEOUS COMPOSITION. Although geared towards practitioners and students of improvised performance, these workshops are also SUITABLE for NON-SPECIALISTS interested in exploring their own creativity through the powerfully expressive medium of voice.
STEVE BOYLAND is an improvising vocalist, performance artist and voice teacher of international stature. His reputation as a PERFORMER is founded on the intensity and eclecticism of his solo work, as well as a portfolio of acclaimed collaborations with INTERNATIONAL PRACTITIONERS in the fields of music, art, poetry and dance. He continues to be in great demand as a TEACHER , leading workshops in academic institutions, arts centres and festivals across the UK and the rest of Europe. Recent teaching engagements include residencies at ALDEBURGH in 2015 and a continuing programme within the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the UNIVERSITY of LIMERICK since 2014.
