πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯WEATHER WARNINGπŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯
While the lovely weather makes a nice change from the rest of this 'summer' the heat can cause problems for our pets.
Heat stroke can sadly be fatal, and can strike with little warning. We have seen cases after pets have only been walked to the clinic in the middle of the day!
... πŸΆπŸ• DOGS πŸ•πŸΆ Heatstroke is sadly all too common, especially in our brachycephalic (flat nosed breeds). With the weather this hot it is far safer to NOT WALK YOUR DOG than to risk them overheating. If you have to walk them, stick to first thing in the morning or last thing at night. Take plenty of water and damp down their fur before you head off.
If you think your dog has heatstroke there are some simple things you can do at home to help. Our vets would advise following these basic first aid procedures before heading to the clinic. This will start the cooling process and buy you time to get to us. But if you are out and can't do these, please call us straight away!
- wet your dog's coat thoroughly with cool water. We want them to be soaked through to the skin - use a fan to create a breeze over them - offer small amounts of room temperature water, little and often
🐈🐱CATS🐱🐺 Our feline friends generally tolerate the heat a little better than dogs, mostly because they are sensible and prefer to cat nap than chase a ball around πŸ˜‚
The lovely infographics from Cats Protection have some great tips for keeping our cats cool as the temperature goes up. The easiest way to encourage cats to drink more is to make sure food and water are in seperate places!
πŸπŸπŸ°πŸ‡OTHER PETSπŸ‡πŸ°πŸπŸ
Don't forget to ensure outdoor pets have access to shade at all times, plenty of water and hutches aren't in direct sunlight.
Warm weather is also the time we worry about flystrike, so check your pet's bums are clean and dry at all times

Did you know dogs can get sunburn? Whilst your dog might love to lounge in the sun, don’t let them do so for too long. Encourage them into the shade or a cool spot indoors. Does your pet have a special shady spot outside? Share your photos below .πŸ˜€

Chloe has been a student with us during the final year of her Veterinary Nurse training, and I'm sure some of you will recognise her!
Student nurses complete their theoretical training alongside practical placement blocks. They have to complete a progress log to show their practical skills as well as written and practical exams.
So we wanted to say a huge congratulations to Chloe on her graduation today, and we're very proud to welcome her onto our team of Registered Veterinary Nurses

The Handsome Victor came in yesterday to be castrated. Victor arrived with his owner at 8.30am for his admit appointment.
Victor was looked after all day by our nurse team both before and after his procedure with the vet.
Victor was bright and breezy and ready to go home at 4pm :D Victor will visit us in a couple of days time for his first post op check, but feedback today from his owner says that Victor is doing really well.
... We would advise all cats are neutered around the age of 6 months, but we are happy to neuter them as soon as they are fully vaccinated! For more information on Neutering please call the practice on 01512520000

I think we all know a dog who lives by these rules πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
If your dog has eaten something they shouldn't have (or if you're not sure!) give us a call and we can let you know what you need to do next :)
