TUESDAY MIX TIP!! Use You Ears NOT Your Eyes!!🙈 This may sound obvious but I’ve been banging on about it for years and still seeing mixers falling in to the “visual feedback” trap. The modern studio environment has lots of visual feedback distracting us from actually using our ears to make decisions. Ask yourself, do I really need to see my screen right now? Do I need to see that annoying timecode display on my console? Turn them off! Cover them up! TOP WORKFLOW TIP!! The Obligatory New Year Software Update!!👍🏽 here at The Loft Studios we’re not huge fans of constant software updates...we much prefer our studio computers to be 100% rock solid and stable, so once we have a system that’s 100% stable we like to leave it well alone!😊 Having said that we do need to embrace the latest technology to keep giving our clients the best service, so at the start of every year we bring our systems bang up to date!! So without further ...ado my top workflow tip is all about plugins: Have a look through your plug-in folder - look at ALL those plugins you haven’t used for a while! - select and drag them all to your “unused plugins” folder and forget about them!! This way next time you go to select an EQ or compressor in your DAW you won’t have to search through a huge list wondering which one to use!! Now, watch how quickly you start to work!!😉 years ago we used to mix records on large format consoles with one type of EQ and one type of dynamics without a care in the world....we DON’T need 50 different EQs!! It slows us down and holds back our creativity & workflow.
