Sunday Singer's Thought:
So I've had a bit of time off due to ill health but back to my first full day today with the Labuntina gang for their Sky children's show at Dock10Studio in MediaCityUK. Always a pleasure and such an inspiring team. It's always amazing how much energy you can give to one and other when you work with inspiring people! Such talented kids too!!

Had some cracking lessons this morning! Always nice when it's so miserable outside!

Sunday singer's thought:
Beyond the technical aspect of singing for all singers there is an acknowledgement that must be made. Stress related, self esteem/belief and vulnerability issues can unknowingly to some, affect your vocal. Muscular tension that can be related to any of the above can impact the freedom of your vocal. We will go into more detail about this another time.
Some who practice as much as possible are left frustrated as they notice progression is slow if no...t at all. Often this is due to the energy/energies that they are running from (anxiousness, nervousness or stress). As singers, there has to be more than practice: being self aware of our own mental state, working on stress related issues and most of all learning that being comfortable in your own identity is so important to be able to sing true.
I spend so much time with young singers that are continually comparing themselves to others, cannot handle mistakes, not trusting ability and never allowing vulnerability when singing. My main aim is to explain to them that the world is NOT split between talented and none talented people, just those trust their own selves and decisions and those that don't. We have to be ok to be different to our peers and ok to be us.
This video offers a nice insight to why individuality and being true to yourself is so important as an artist/singer. If you trust yourself you can achieve what you want for yourself. The more we teach others how to respect and be confident in their own identity, the more success we will discover in all different aspects of life.

Another jam packed two days starting this morning in Chester, with an UNBELIEVABLE amount of young talent. What an exciting year!

Had some great lessons tonight! First off I had James. It's only James's second lesson, we've been working on airflow and support - trying to relive some tension. We starting to see signs of him singing with more ease and comfort, looking forward to seeing how he progresses!
With Linda, we solely focussed on her habit of dropping her support at the end of each phrase leaving it feeling and sounding insecure. She had great fun exploring this and already beginning to feel and hear the results.

Sunday Singer's Thought:
All of my students will have had these types of conversations with me: "my voice doesn't do that" or "I just don't have a head voice" etc etc. When in fact, they don't quite understand the mechanics of how to achieve that vocal quality and don't yet appreciate the process that it takes when their muscle memory in that area does not exist.
My students hear a lot about how seeing pitch being 'up' and 'down', and associating pitch with difficulty level ...is detrimental to their vocal approach. Here is a video by vocal coach and clinical vocal rehabilitation specialist, Dane Chalfin. I attended one of Dane's courses this year and was extremely insightful and empowering as a singing teacher. The most trusting part of his teaching is it's evidentiary, based on current and extensive research and he lives and breathes it. Have a listen - he knows his stuff. i've had lessons with lucy for about a year and a half and i can say truthfully that i have never felt stronger. the way she coaches you and pays attention to your problems is something you only see in very special people. always giving her everything into all she does and pushing you to the best of your abilities even when you yourself have lost a bit of hope. her vocal talent is insane and she passes as much of her wisdom as possible onto all of her students , treating each one of them with respect and patience. i couldn't think of anything lucy could change about the way she coaches. i have had so many amazing opportunities with lucy and i feel so much more confident performing and my voice has grown so much since i started with lucy. thank you for all you do!!!!! x

We are a singing for pleasure group who have had a number of singing coaches (& very good ones too). Lucy has carried on where they left off & with infinite patience & humour (cos we are a handful at times) she's making us believe we can be a choir. We're now singing songs we would never have even attempted let alone thought about. Thanks Lucy.

We all loved Lucy, especially the 3 children she helped rehearsing and coached during their recording session. She easily understood what I wanted and translated it into the right excercises for the children, bringing out the best of them, while being a friendly buddy to share a laugh with, at the same time. I hope I will get to work again with her soon!

Lucy worked with my daughter Daisy and her group of friends in preparing for a voice recording session. The children were all bounding with confidence thanks to Lucy's coaching! She knew exactly how to support and compliment them but also how to critique their performance without curbing their enthusiasm. I couldn't recommend Lucy highly enough, a superb tutor!

Lucy teaches and encourages us at our ladies singing group Good Vibrations. She's great at explaining and showing us how to sing and pushing us to achieve more with our group. Although only a recent newcomer to the group, I've notice a big improvement in our ability to sing the often difficult and complex pieces she's challenging us with, and the feeling of achievement and community is great. Whiles undertaking vocal training from Lucy she started me off on a level she thought was appropriate for me and gradually worked my way up to where I am now. I met Lucy about a year ago and started having singing lessons with her. I have always loved singing, but never had the confidence to do it, plus I didn't really like the sound of my own voice. I must admit that I have very high standards when it comes to choosing music teachers, having been taught classical piano to grade 7, and Lucy did not disappoint! I was nervous during my first singing lesson with Lucy, obviously, I needed to sing in front of her, but of course I was scarred and anxious about what she might think. I need not have worried at all! Lucy was very friendly and welcoming and did everything she could to put me at ease and explained that it is perfectly natural to feel nervous. My first lesson went really well - she even got me singing on the microphone and sound system - that was really fun! Over the past year, Lucy has taught me techniques that allows me to control my voice and improve the way it sounds. The way Lucy has taught me techniques has been fantastic, she has a way of explaining things very clearly so I can quickly understand what it is I am aiming to achieve. I would highly recommend having singing lessons with Lucy!

Confidence had always been an issue for me, worrying about whether I would forget the words and how I looked in front of an audience, but Lucy's great advice helped me get over this fear and I went into my audition more confident than ever. In addition to this, Lucy gave me guidance in how to vary my tone throughout a song in order to suit my voice as well as the music. I would definitely recommend Lucy to anyone looking for vocal tutoring in popular music as she is friendly, supportive and a truly great teacher.
