No electric? I am often able to talk people through what to do, over the phone. My mobile phone 07802 408513 is always on, but if you want to try to sort out the problem yourself, here is some advice.
I get lots of calls from people who have lost power to their sockets. Lights are still working, but sockets are off.
This is usually caused by a device in the consumer unit called an RCD (residual current device). It is a very sensitive device, but a very important part of the ...electrical safety of the system. Here's what you can try yourself, before having to pay someone.
1 - Find your consumer unit (fusebox). (There is a helpful picture as the next comment, if you want to have a look before you start). Make sure the MAIN SWITCH is ON. This is usually marked as 'MAIN SWITCH', usually twice the width of an individual circuit breaker, and usually at one end or the other.
2 - Look for a device in your consumer unit, usually twice the width of all the other circuit breaker devices, with a very small button on it marked T or TEST. This is the RCD. Try to reset the RCD. This is usually done by pushing the switch all the way up.
3 - If it won't reset, or 'trips' straight away, switch off all the other circuit breaker devices (MCB's) on the consumer unit, and then try the RCD again. If you can get the RCD to stay on, you are making progress!
4 - Switch on individual MCB's, one at a time, until one of them causes the RCD to trip again. It will often be just one MCB that, when switched on, causes the RCD to switch off. Leave that MCB off, and switch on all other devices in the consumer unit.
5 - On the affected circuit, remove the plugs from the wall sockets, for as many appliances as you can. It is very important to physically remove the plug, rather than just switching off the switch on the socket.
6 - Try to reset the RCD, and the MCB, again. If they stay on, then you know you have removed the fault already, by simply unplugging the faulty appliance.
7 - Go around and plug in your appliances again. One of them will probably cause the RCD to switch off again. This will be your faulty appliance. It will need repairing or replacing.
8 - At any time, either if you've done all the above, or you're worried about something that might be happening, just call my mobile. I won't see anyone stuck without power, and that's why it never gets turned off, 24/7, 365 days a year!
Hope this helps! Thanks, Barry 😉

I did a small repair job for a lovely couple last week. When I left the lady asked me if me and ‘my wife 😂’ enjoyed going out for something to eat, and insisted on treating us to something 🤘🏻
They also said that she enjoyed writing poems, especially about the best people and places they come across...
This arrived today 😊

Customer just sent me these photos of some lights we fitted for them at the front of their house. Auto operation via a very discreet 180* detector on the corner, so it picks up movement from the front door to the pavement.
Nice to hear that they are exactly what they wanted 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

When people ask me ‘how much is a rewire’ over the phone, I always have to say I need to have a look and price it up, usually according to the amount of lights / sockets etc....
Some customers want more stuff than others 😩

It’s 9-40am in sunny Ibiza, and Oscar’s still asleep! I’m enjoying the mandatory morning brew, and we all know work never completely stops for the self employed among us 😂
Even whilst away, I’ve arranged a few jobs for when we’re back in. I have an inspection to do for the potential buyer of a house in Lytham, and the same type of inspection to do for the seller of a house in Ansdell. Both want to go through the process armed with as much info as they can, and have answers to... any questions that may be asked by interested parties.
At a very reasonable £55 plus vat for a visual inspection, it’s a really good idea, and money very well spent 🤘🏻
Feel free to contact me, or pass on to anyone you think might be interested.
Thanks,
Barry.

Another assessment with NICEIC passed with flying colours!
It’s never an easy day spent with the engineer who checks everything from admin to actual jobs out on site, but after 12 years as an Approved Contractor, we are used to it!
Roll on next year 😂
