A great turn out today to see the JU88 exhibits. Big thanks to the guys from the Veterans Living History Museum and John Bulmer from BAE Systems Warton for bringing along their respective displays. Also to Eric Watkiss and Nick Wotherspoon from the Lancashire Aircraft Investigation Team for their efforts in putting together the JU88 display. As this is our last PUBLIC Open Day a big thank you to ALL the LSA Spitfire Team Volunteers, who without, this fantastic Hangar 42 Visitor Centre would not have been enjoyed by almost 7000 visitors in 2019, thank you all!!!! Here’s to a very exciting 2020

The fundraising for the Lytham Spitfire Memorial was the first project of the LSA Spitfire Team. Since then volunteers have refurbished an original WW2 RAF Hangar at Blackpool Airport, multiple artefacts and RAF Military Vehicles. During 2020 we will embark on our most ambitious project yet! It’s not all work for the volunteers at Hangar 42. In September we were privileged to travel to Oosterbeek and Arnhem as the guests of Renkum Leeft. Here is a small clip of some of the team in the Willis Jeep and the Ford Staff car in front on the run to the Bridge at Arnhem, a very moving experience. Thanks to Paul Lomax for providing the vehicles and to Lee Townsend for providing the footage.

Our team of Volunteers have taken part in quite a few TV and Film productions since 2010. We particularly enjoyed being part of ITV’s The Halcyon, we were sad when ITV dropped the series when viewing figures were reaching 5.5 million. Perhaps, along with Homefires, another Production Company could pick up the Series? Keep an eye open for our Spitfires and team members

Well done troops!!! The Volunteer Team at Hangar 42, Blackpool Airport are really pushing on with their restorations and upgrades this week. These photos show the restoration of the Bedford QLd which being carried out by members of our Military Vehicle section, which has required a full strip down, sanding and repaint, whilst the Mark 1 Hawker Hurricane is being upgraded with electrics with a view to getting her Navigation and instrument panel lights operational, today the original Landing lights were finally working!! On the 16th October 1939, just weeks after the invasion of Poland by German forces, two JU88’s became the first Luftwaffe Aircraft shot down over England by Spitfires of the Royal Air Force. On the 3rd November you can visit Hangar 42 Blackpool Airport between 10am and 4pm to view our Spitfires and crash recovered JU88. Make it a date, please share with all your friends. This is our last Open Day until March 2020.
