User

We stayed a group of 7 this weekend on hen do the staff were amazing and so patient with us as u can understand we got a bit loud. The rooms were great size. Room service was great and we enjoyed chill on spa which maybe need larger changing room x will Def go again x

User

Me and my partner stayed here through Thompson sport on a package for the Man United vs Liverpool football game. There was a little hick up with the room when we checked in but the way the receptionist handled it, was brilliant. We only had to wait 10minutes maximum for them to sort it out and the room was lovely.. very spacious and the bathroom was to a high spec. The steak restaurant was very good aswell. Service was great and food was delicious! I’d highly recommend this place if you want a comfortable and relaxing stay. We are from East Sussex so if we are ever to return to Manchester we’d stay again!

User

We stayed 2 nights and I must say all the staff were great friendly and polite .. the room was nice the bed huge and the pillows were padded to the max .. we got taxis ordered by reception and it cost us at most £5 into various parts of town for drinks... I thought being charged over £10 for 2 drinks .. beer and a Bacardi and coke was expensive but it is a hotel and in town you pay the same almost anyway .. we had breakfast both mornings and it has a decent variety and was good..the staff there on duty were attentive and always smiling and happy to greet us and i cannot fault them..we enjoyed our stay there and enjoyed our Manchester weekend overall .. it is slightly expensive to eat and drink in there but so are most hotels anywhere in the country. I would use them again next time simply because of the staff and the location ..just out enough to have that bit of quiet and be away from the crowds of town

User

The hotel staff were always friendly and professional. The room was lovely, clean and spacious. Disappointed at the lack of toiletries and hand soap in the bathroom. The sealant needs to be replaced in the bathroom as it was going black in places. The breakfast was first class and hot with an excellent choice. I asked for scrambled eggs and this was freshly cooked whilst I waited. I would certainly stay with them again

User

Stayed here after Soccer Aid, June 10th. Had a great night. Only thing that bugged me was that after hours when the bar had closed we were asked to order drinks via room service. So we did but there was no answer. The bathroom was amazing apart from one set of towels. Luckily i took mine. The staff were lovely though and the breakfast was amazing. Would deffo stay here again! :)

User

i really dont want to be negative about this hotel as there were many positives, but our experience was not what i would expect for a 4* hotel. Many of the issues were minor, and were rectified, however i feel compelled to write following our breakfast experience, so here goes .....

The hotel room was lovely and big, and very clean, although the outside windows badly needed cleaning). We had only one bath towel for 2 guests - another bale of towels was brought up fairly quickly on request, but I notice from other reviews (on this and other sites) that this has happened before and wonder whether this is in fact a strategy to reduce laundry?

Dinner in the restaurant was beautiful, but my son was initially served the wrong meal - staff immediately said that they would recook mine as well and offered a basket of warm breads while we waited...which was all very well, but we had already ordered and finished one basket and by that time I would have preferred another glass of wine!!

The beds were very hard, and neither if us slept well, but that might just be my personal preference.

I would not have mentioned any of this as it feels petty, had it not been for the breakfast situation. We were in Manchester for a university open day and needed to leave the hotel by 9.45 to walk to the first event by 10.15. We went down to breakfast at 9am promptly ....only to find a long queue waiting to enter the restaurant...we were eventually seated at 9.29!!

Shocking for a 4*hotel.

When I explained the situation the restaurant receptionist was very off hand.

We were so late we ended up having to order a taxi to the campus and it made for a stressful start to the day.

At the end of the day we returned to collect our luggage and i asked to talk to a manager. To be fair he was extremely apologetic and offered a reduced rate for a subsequent stay (which i declined). We then negotiated a refund that I felt was a fair reduction against the total bill and reflected what had gone wrong.

Would i stay here again? I might..

But not if I had a business meeting or any event that required a reliable morning schedule!

User

Fantastic suite but very unimpressed with the service. Firstly, no reply to two emails that I sent prior to arriving. And secondly, arriving back to a hotel that promised 24 hour room service at 2230hrs and being told that they had gone home and instead given three take away menus!!! I do not expect to come to a supposed four star hotel, pay for a suite and then have a choice of an Indian or a greasy kebab offered to me. Not impressed at all and I will be making a complaint!!

User

Definately not a 4star hotel, staff very friendlyon arrival, room was spacious but very tired looking, paintwork, carpets in room and hallway very grubby, booked a twin room, my bed had only 3 castors/wheels, so was very lopsided, took a pic as i cant believe housekeeping didnt notice when bed was made, man came to fix it at 10am the next morning, toilet on ground floor was blocked with 'contents' over floor, told reception who said 'ok' but after 20 mins no attempt was made to fix or put out of order sign on door. So overall excellent location as we went to gig at 02, staff friendly, best thing for this hotel is a thorough refurb, at the price they charge for a room its long overdue.

User

Food is overpriced and mediocre at best. I'd expect the steak in a steakhouse to be a lot better. We weren't even given a steak knife. The peppercorn sauce was also like water.

After explaining 3 times I would like a vodka and coke to the waitress I was told they don't do that and just gave me a diet coke in the end. Bit odd as I could see the optics from where I was sitting.

We also asked for a mocktail for my pregnant girlfriend (after reading on the menu that we should ask server if you would like one) only to be told that if she wants on she would have to go down to the downstairs bar to her one herself.

The queue for breakfast in the morning was excessive, especially when there were lots of free tables. The issue was that there was not enough staff to get the tables ready. The breakfast wasn't great either, for £15 I'd expect a lot more.

The room was excellent but I wouldn't eat there again

User

don't even deserve 1 star. customer service has been shocking. still no contact and no email either. if there had of been a real fire then this experience could only of been unimaginable. management have been useless. to be told it was safe by the actual fire service to go back to my room on a continuous alarm is unbelievable, how would we know if there was an alarm raised for a real fire. the whole 3+ hours were a joke regards the alarm. people's safety clearly went out the window. absolutely no training what so ever to deal with the scenario efficiently. shocking!!!!

User

We’ve not even been contacted by the hotel despite giving e mail and telephone numbers. Does anyone know the general managers name and e mail? I will pass it on to legal team seeing we have been completely dismissed by the hotel and shown no courtesy at all after the terrible night spent in their hotel on 27/05/18. Thanks

User

We stayed here sunday night, check in was good and our room was lovely, clean and cool although there was only 1 bath towel (2 guests) and the fridge did not work but we weren’t going to cry over that. We checked in and then headed straight to etihad for the concert, when arriving back at the hotel we went back to our room to get showered and ready for bed..... thats when the fun started (or not) the fire alarm went off, we headed to the corridor on the 6th floor where we were staying and asked a member of staff if we were to make our way out as he looks extremely calm and not concerned, we got a shrug of the shoulders! We headed out anyways and ended up been out of our rooms until 3.30am, there wasn’t a fire but a fault on the system, but for some reason it took 3 hours for the manager to rock up and also an engineer. When the manager did finally artive after letting his staff take abuse from some guests he was an absolute waste of time. He admitted the rooms couldn’t be passed as safe but proceeded to tell us to go back to our rooms and listen to the piercing noise. No staff knew what was happening, some were helpful and some were a dam right waste of time. We spoke with the female manager on duty on Monday morning who was very nice and reassured us that we would contacted within 48 hours regarding a refund but here we are 72 hours later with no contact what so ever from them. I have rang the hotel but was just fobbed off and told they are still investigating it. I definitely would NOT recommend this hotel, it spoilt our weekend that we had planned for a long time, and also spoilt monday as we were extremely tired.

User

We stayed here Sunday night 27/5/18 the first indication that something wasn’t right was when checking in they tried to charge us for the room when they had already taken payment! On arrival back in around 11:30Pm after a fantastic night watching Ed SHEERAN we ordered room service and settled down only for the fire alarms to go off at around 12am we proceeded to evacuate and were faced with a queue in the stairwell and no members of staff to advise or help .... we were the told by other guests to go back to the room as it was a false alarm ... as the fire alarm was still ringing after around 10 minutes we decided to go to reception where we were greeted with utter chaos .. management (and I say that loosely) hadn’t got a clue what was going on!! We were advised to go back to our room despite the alarm ringing and told to ‘keep an eye out’ !! And it was suggested that if we turned the fire alarm it would silence it. !! Imagine if there was a real fire !!! How would we know ?#shocking Hence we didn’t and finally went to our room at 4:30am after we were assured it was safe to do so !! Despite been shattered none of us got much sleep !! The next morning we expected to be greeted by Senior management with an apology only to be told they hadn’t arrived as yet but we were assured that we would be contacted within 24 hrs !! To date (1/6/18) no contact ... and to add insult to injury the hotel have taken another payment out of my account today !!! So I have currently paid £400 for 1 nights stay of which I didn’t get in my room until 4:30am and the hotel have said they would investigate !!!! Please don’t stay here I have serious concerns about their fire safety and their management customer service and staffing is appalling!! Things happen if there is a fault on the fire alarm then it’s no ones fault BUT every single guest was affected that night and it could have been handled 100 % better !!! MacDonald staff learn from it and contact your guests as we are all getting angrier by the day. !!

User

We chose a nice hotel as a treat for our weekend away. Oh how we were wrong. We queued for 45 minutes to check in and we got to the desk we weren’t even greeted with an apology for the wait. The room was spacious, clean and tidy but the fire alarm sounded from around midnight until about 3:30am. We were unable to exit the building from the fifth floor as the fire escape was blocked with people who clearly weren’t being directed by staff on the ground floor. We had to call reception to find out it was a false alarm, we are reasonable and understand these things happen, but for the alarm to go off to three hours is unacceptable, we spoke to the duty manager Sue in the morning who explained there is no-one in the building able to authorise refunds and we would hear back within 72 hours... we are now six days on.... your customer services team are extremely unhelpful and the reception staff seem to pick the phone up and put it down immediately. Lovely hotel, shocking service. The hotel have my details and I do expect a call to confirm our refund ASAP.

User

This hotel doesn't even deserve the 1* stayed (well didnt) here bank holiday Sunday after the Ed Sheeran concert got into bed fire alarm went off attempted to leave told a false alarm and then proceeded to go back to bed for the alarm to go off again be evacuated told to then go back to our rooms by the fire brigade told it was safe the alarm still going off... we left in the end around 3am with no guarantees of answers from staff so drove the 1 hour 40 min back home as they expected us to sleep through the fire alarm which was an absolute joke. we have tried to get in touch with the manager everyday since with no reply and no contact off anyone an absolute joke. if i do not hear anything by the end of the week i will be taking this matter further.

i have a 13 month old daughter and my first night away from her spoilt due to your lack of incompetence on the night and since.

User

So.... it’s nearly 2am. The fire alarm has been going off for around 2 hours now, the staff... most unhelpful, seem to be sending people back to their rooms, I appreciate it’s probably a false alarm or a malfunction, but what if it’s not? The desk staff seem to have nothing but distain for the guests, will not use MacDonald hotels again.

User

Here now! Fire alarm has been going off constantly for the last hour with no one able to turn it off! Firemen can't resolve issue with it being a fault and needs an engineer to resolve the issue! Not happy! Paid alot of money to have a comfortable stay! Not to be constantly deafend by a faulty fire alarm! Staff aren't much help! And a manager was no where to be seen!! Not happy!!

User

Defiantly NOT a four star hotel. Unhelpful staff that are incompetent with no regard for people’s safety.

On arrival we waited for an hour to check in bearing in mind we arrived at 4.30pm and check was from 3pm.

The room was dirty, there marks on the carpets and dust everywhere. We stayed for 2 nights and nobody came round to replenish towels or water in the rooms.

On our 2nd night we returned back to the hotel, got into bed to be woken an hour later to all the fire alarms going off. The security guard told us to remain in our rooms. The staff managed to turn it off and about 10 mins later the fire alarms went off again, but this time they were persistent and continued to go off for almost 3 hours.

There was no direction from staff and more worrying there seemed to be no evacuation procedure. There were children and pregnant women sleeping on the floor in the reception area. There was no sign of the general manager and he/she also didn’t bother to arrive this morning to help the staff dealing with all the problems from the night before.

We paid £700 for two rooms for 2 nights. When we asked for a refund this morning the manager on duty at the time palmed is off and told us we would get a call from the General Manager today. We have called to chase this in the last hour and have now been told up to 72 hours before we receive a call. This is unacceptable.

This has got to be one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in! Do not stay here, it’s over priced and the staff do not know what they are doing.

To the General Manager, if you are reading this I would like you to call me as soon as possible and I will not stop until we get a FULL REFUND.

Thank you.

Room 452/448

User

Arrived at the hotel to have to wait in a queue for 30 minutes to check in, only to be told that the room isn’t ready, (no reason given) by this time it was already 5 o’clock, when check in is from 3 o’clock, not the best first impression especially when most people waiting are going to a concert that starts at 6:30
