Bowness-on-Windermere came alive with Music and Colour as the followers of the Hindu faith Shree Swaminarayan Gadi lead a procession up to the Glebe in Bowness to commemorate the life of a religious figurehead who brought his message of peace from India to the Lake District 30 years ago.

We visited yesterday on our 10th wedding anniversary for a spa experience and cream tea, we absolutely loved it! It thoroughly relaxed and pampered us ready for renewing our views last night. Special thanks to Rebecca and Hannah for their help and the reception staff for their thoughtful anniversary gifts! The cream tea was equally as lovely with the most special view. Thank you!

User

We had a fabulous time despite it raining the whole time. We had a treatment each, and the staff were all very pleasant, and professional, lovely atmosphere. The room was clean and very warm, we had to sleep with the balcony door open! We were impressed with very large shower. We couldn’t fault our evening meal. All the staff were friendly and approachable. My only snag is that we upgraded to a lake view, and the picture on the website showed the view from room. But our lake view could only be seen from the balcony, and in this weather, we didnt go out there.

User

Stayed for the second at this wonderful hotel staff and room excellent unfortunately although there is plenty food on offer for breakfast the cooked breakfast was very dry on both days but still wonderful hotel

User

Second stay at this hotel last week . Beautiful hotel . We stayed in the feature suite which was gorgeous with lovely views over the lake . Evening meal and breakfast were both lovely . All the staff were excellent , Especially Ahmed who made it extra special for us when he found out it was both mine and my mums big birthdays coming up ... lovely touch bringing us some prosecco to our room and for our evening meal . Will definitely be back next year . Thank you x

User

Modern rooms. Enjoyed the bath. Very spacious & airy. Gr8 view from window of the Windermere lake. Dinner was nouveau style. Definitely 1 of the better hotels.

User

Lovely hotel, perfect location, beautiful spa and excellent facial/massage from therapist (Marina) nice food - staff could be more efficient at reception (have more authority in managers absence) and parking is expensive as no onsite parking. Overall nice experience.

User

It's the 2nd time this month we have stopped at the hotel, amazing location, beutiful hotel, a stunning room looking onto the lake, the breakfast is superb, the spa is a added bonus, the staff remembered us, another lovely stay, it is very expensive but our stay was worth every penny! Thank you.

User

Been to the hotel today for a mum to be massage and it was amazing!!! I would definitely recommend it if your expecting a little one

User

Beautiful hotel in a gorgeous and quaint small town on a beautiful lake. Wonderful food and service. Our only quibble would be no A/C, but I’m not marking it down a star for that since it’s normally MUCH cooler and we came during record high heat. We were on a tour and had very limited time to wander around so we’d love to come back again and see more of the town!

User

Amazing Hotel I have stayed here before and I have never been disappointed. The staff are all lovely and very Attentive I will be back hopefully this year. The room was fantastic with a view of the lake

User

My first time in this hotel and it was great experience, I enjoyed from our room the lovely lake view, fantastic full day spa service, nice swimming pool, breakfast delicious 😋 great customer service from the hotel’s staff... I will back to the hotel. My only recommendation is to handle congestion better at breakfast time to ensure everybody is taken into account.

User

Just returned from a very enjoyable one night spa break, overall a really great experience. The package my daughter booked for us included afternoon tea, an evening meal, breakfast and spa treatment, all were excellent. Great choice at breakfast and cooked food was excellent. Afternoon tea came with very fresh sandwiches, cakes and scones which were perfect on the terrace. Staff were very efficient and friendly saying hello and smiling when you passed. Only a couple of problems being that as a smoker you weren’t allowed to smoke on the terrace outside (individual problem but still very annoying having to stand out the front of the hotel, where there are no ash trays, so having to walk to the pub next door). Also, there is no easy way down to the grass area with tables set out which was a shame. All in all, a great stay.

User

Had a lovely treatment and a swim, however, on a very slightly downside, I was asked if there were any special dietary requirements on the afternoon tea (there were 4 of us) I said please no egg or salmon, the lady said ok then as the others were chipping in with I like this and I like that the waitress said well you can swap. Only a little blip as the rest of the day was lovely

User

To be honest had a bad start Sandra at check in said sorry you can’t check in until 4 pm I explained we are meeting people at 4pm Could we get our room 15 mins before, she said no but we could use the spa.

She then told me the card I had given her was a debit card and she needed a credit card !! I said well I used it to book but was told it must be a credit card for the deposit and to charge things to the room !!

ALL WRONG!!! Sandra At 3pm we came back dragging our case and close back from the spa and spoke to a Young girl who checked us in and gave us a room and all on the debit card I booked with amazing the difference between her attitude and completely wrong Sandra !!

All that said the hotel is right on the water the Terrace out the back is lovely as is the breakfasting area with amazing views and beautiful food .

Valet parking but £20 charge ! Lots of character but possibly looking ever so slightly dated .

The gentleman who serves you on the back terrace with food and drinks is the star of the show the man is just simply brilliant tall slim charming chat with everyone and his service is 2nd to none.

The type of man ever hotel wants

It’s a good hotel bank holiday £320 a night not cheap

I stayed at the Burnside hotel two minutes away the previous night my girlfriend and I both prefer that as the spa is better in the restaurant food is much better

Has free parking is £220 a night you can see the water but your not on it as you are with the Mcdonald

Both have nice bathrooms and lovely beds

Like I say Sandra on check in spoiled it for us but the rest of the staff are switched on and good

I think 4pm Check in is to late 2pm is the norm and your still out at 11am so plenty time to get the rooms ready . Sandra simply said it’s always been 4pm at this hotel !!! Oh ! Well it’s not if she’s not on the desk, so ask another member of staff

Gary and Fay room 240 Saturday 26th May

Got back in our room about midnight had to kill about 20 flies as we were both drunk running round with towels it was quite good fun.

We found if you chase them in to the bathroom which does have a bath and a shower and is quite spacious and lock the door You can kill them far easier .. it was a hot summers day but that’s a lot of Flies

User

This is our second stay at the hotel we found it very relaxing the rooms spacious bed extremely comfortable but on our second stay we was a little disappointed there was no fridge in room on lake wing also breakfast was not up to scratch it was very cold tasteless , even tea coffee toast was cold second morning they had changed it from buffet style to taking orders which was a little better but took nearly an hour from taking our order until we received it this again was tasteless also no white bread only brown available on continental section I did report this to lady in dining room An also too reception no one got back too us we stayed an payed for 2 night with breakfast that we didn’t eat.

***unable to meet request***

Our first time visiting this hotel, we enjoyed our stay. The room was beautiful overlooking the lake. We ate at the hotels restaurant for our evening meal, the service was good and the food was beautiful. Breakfast was good with a good selection, but our cooked breakfast came with items missing and staff seemed half asleep and was not up to the standard what we had received the night before. However my partner had requested prosecco and flowers to be in the room on arrival, the prosecco was there, however after numerous phone calls to the hotels reception my partner was told that they had ran out of flowers and had failed to let him know prior to our arrival. They shouldn't offer special requests if they are unable to deliver them. No one from the hotel contacted him before or mentioned it on arrival even though they had his contact number. My partner had to ask them over the phone was there anything else they could do whilst we was dining with them that evening and although we did get two glasses of proseecco we don't feel that it is acceptable from a hotel of this standard.

User

Took my mam for a spa day with treatments and afternoon tea. The spa and treatments were lovely but the afternoon tea was disappointing!! It took forever to come and when it did arrive the scones were stale, the clotted cream was more like squirty cream form a can and the cake selection was appalling!! I am disappointed to say that it was the worst afternoon tea I have ever had!!

User

I will start by saying usually every review I leave is 5* as I hate to leave bad reviews and would usually prefer to deal with the Company themselves direct . I have never left a company such a poor review before as I am not a serial complainer.

We visit the old England once a year for a spa day and are normally very happy, however not this time .

We paid £178 for two facials which were stated as 55 minutes long, our facials were really rushed and the timings cut short. I am a beauty therapist myself so I know what’s involved in facials and timings ,so to pay £89 for a facial you expect the best not a half effort.

I just think to charge so much and give such mediocre service is just not on. I did email to

Share my poor experience and all I was told was that the treatments will be monitored in future to ensure they last the full stated time. When I replied to say I felt this was not good enough I did not get any response.

Will not be visiting again due to Poor customer service

User

Booked on Travelzoo spa day for 2. Facilities were good . Used pool , steam , sauna etc for the morning then had afternoon tea before an afternoon of treatments .

Afternoon tea sandwiches for me were good - ham, salmon, egg, tuna . My friend who is vegetarian just got 4 cheese sandwiches !

She does eat egg , salad , just not meat or fish !

The cakes were disgusting . 2 stale and 2 fresh scones then 5 cakes between the 2 of us ! Bizarre

2 shop bought Bakewell tarts still in the foil , 1 Mr Kipling apple tart still in the foil and a piece of shop bought flap jack. And one small chocolate cake ! I did complain to both waiting on staff about the shop bought items either from Bryson’s or Tesco - both shops over the road from hotel . I was told that all cakes are bought in except the chocolate one . I’ve been to heaps of afternoon teas in the Lakes but never one this bad. I did complain to the manager at the end of the day who said she would inform the chef .

For £25 EACH somebody needs to be informing EVERYONE , not just the chef !

Do not go here for afternoon tea.

The afternoon of treatments were just perfect . Marina , my therapist was fab.

A beautiful day ruined by overpriced , shop bought food.
