Wonderful atmosphere in unique surroundings. Cheerful,friendly staff,tasty food and excellent wines.

We stumbled on this place while visiting the castle. I had the Sunday roast Pork ...amazing while the rest of our group had the chicken,leek &mushroom pie off the specials menu. Again amazing and all commented on how full of chicken the pies where. We didn’t manage desserts,however we watched other dishes being delivered to tables around us! Choice and presentation flawless. The staff are lovely, friendly and efficient helping you feel relaxed in the cellar surroundings. Just a lovely find would recommend without hesitation. Thanks we will return

My eldest daughter and her family came to see me today. We had a wonderful meal. Thank you all so much everyone really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is so warm and friendly the service superb. Thank you to the chef and kitchen staff. A special day to remember. Thank you. ���

Just fabulous!!!! Had a 2 course meal and was quite possibly the best meal I’ve eaten in a while... the location was great and decor really stunning.... well worth a visit

I love the food in this place has great history and very friendly staff

I haven't tried food at Merchants, so cannot score on that front, although it always looks fantastic. I can, however, comment on the superb quality of the beers on offer at Merchants. Always a superb selection of cask ales, often with at least 1 offering from the superb Allendale Brewery that I have a particular soft spot for. They also offer very well kept keg offerings too, of which the Staropramen pilsner is particularly well kept. Some great bottled beers too, including 3 different Chimay trappists and the excellent Samuel Smith's fruit range.



If you like your beer and you're in or around Lancaster, get into Merchants for a couple... you won't regret it.

Other places should offer a selection that is as varied. Compliments to the chef on the beetroot and goats cheese parcels...... Amazing. Thankyou and I know we will be back very soon.

Good menu, well cooked food and friendly staff. A very pleasant evening in a unique setting.

First ever visit and I wasn’t disappointed,Lunch was very good and the real ales also very pleasant topped off in an amazing setting 👍 highly recommended

3-4 is good for a pint or two in the sun outside😀

Loved it ... pleased to see loads of vegi options, only had a Sandwich as on an impromptu pub crawl with hubby, excellent service and decent beer... nice quirky place to eat, loads outside in the sun too... only disappointment was that we didn't make it back as the mains sounded fab for me as a vegi... will be coming back .... would recommend

It's lovely place to visit cos must have been revamped last time I was there but I was there on Wednesday night at a retirement do And the bar staff was excellent And the buffet we had there well chips I loved them ���

Great food,Great staff,an all round good expeirence the only slight niggle for technophobes is the wifi & phone reception are a bit dodgy at the very end of the tunnels but hey if cant do without yer phone for an hour,you dont deserve good food & drink 👍🏻🤪

They should update their blackboards advertising beers you have not had on, as one of the staff said "for years", leaves one feeling disappointed and very underwhelmed. To then be told they are not chalk boards but painted smacks of attempts at deception.

I only eat fillet so I know this was certainly not it. It used to be our favourite place to eat. Not any more. Would not go again or recommend it.
