Fun Friday Fact:
It's rumored that the Lord Tollemache Family, the initial owner of the Peckforton estate, built the castle as a bet with a friend after seeing the neighboring Beeston Castle.

We had a Wonderful 2 night stay 16 & 17 July. We stayed in Room 308 which was lovely and clean... A fair way to walk and up stairs etc but your in a Castle so we didn’t expect anything else and it’s good to walk. We got lost enroute to our room but asked a overly member of staff and they took us to our door...First night we ate in The 1851 restaurant very lovely food and staff were very attentive. Afterwards we went for a walk and it started belting down with rain absolutely torrential rain so we stayed sheltered under the Archway of the entrance to the grounds we were going to stay there until the rain calmed down however long that took but a lovely young man who worked there came over and offered us his umbrella which we let for him at reception afterwards how very kind of him.....We went to the Cellar Bar which was lovely and romantic especially when the barman lit the candle on our table... The whole Cellar Bar has been built by amazing craftsmanship.... Next day breakfast was tasty and a good variety something for everyone then went on a Segway Experience with Harry as our guide a lovely, Chatty, friendly young man .. High Five to Harry then later on we went to see if they had availability for the spa which they did..... My husband and I didn’t mind paying the £15 each as the receptionist said it would include use next day if there was availability....We literally had the two hot tubs, Sauna and experience shower and sunshine to ourselves for a good few hours which was soooo relaxing. We are at the Brassiere on this second night and the food was of a very high standard so had Salmon fish cakes which was literally just salmon Wow.... We then went for a walk round where we hadn’t been before..... Final morning after a lovely breakfast which the only thing that spoilt it was a complaint guest about his poached egg you know the type who will just about complain about their own shadow instead of embracing the experience.... When my husband was taking something to the car afterwards he followed them to a clapped out old car so in my opinion I doubt they could even afford to be there so we’re looking for a refund to pay for their night away...,,, We went back to the Spa a good hour and a half just the two of us again was bliss, one other couple came in but there was plenty of room for us all......We really enjoyed our chilled time at Peckforton Castle and all the staff we met were really lovely thank you all so very much

Took advantage of the groupon deal currently on offer. Overnight stay, 3 course meal and breakfast. Had a very enjoyable stay. Admittedly the room we were allocated to (601) was possibly the furthest and most highest room in the castle and up a lot of stairs, but it was cosy, clean and the bed was very comfortable. The staff could not have been more friendly, polite and appeared to genuinely want us to have an enjoyable experience. Our table was pre booked for us for 8pm in the 1851 restaurant, which was fine. The food, wine and service was impeccable! We later had a walk down to the Wine cellar bar which again was great, really atmospheric and relaxing. Breakfast was back in the restaurant. Plentiful, fresh and again service was brilliant. The car park is a little bit of a hike from the castle and maybe could benefit from being resurfaced but it wasn't a big ordeal. Overall my husband and I loved it and will definitely be back again !!!

Rode up the hill for a spot of lunch in the brasserie, lovely atmosphere exuding class and quality. Had lunch in the court yard, fantastic service high quality food. I had the house burger, up there with the best, my wife had oriental duck salad which made me think I had made the wrong choice... it was superb.

Matt and I booked Peckforton over 2 years ago for our wedding and since that day we have had so much love and support from all of the staff and client be more thankful for all of the advice and support you have given us. We finally got married at the end of April and all of our guests were overwhelmed with the help you provided. I personally don’t know what i would have done without Eric, Emma and Adam from the moment we arrived on Friday until we left on Sunday Peckforton is truly blessed to have such amazing staff. Whether Eric as whisking me away to relax and get away from it all, Adam looking after our elderly guests and running around after everyone to Emma sewing and pinning me into my wedding dress you were all amazing. We honestly can’t thank you all enough for what you did for us. Hela you an the wedding team were spectacular, our minds were always at ease thanks to all your checking on us and replying to our emails some in the early hours of the morning when something was on our mind. Thank you so much, you really helped to make our wedding day so special and memorable.

I was a bridesmaid here on Sunday. It was honestly so gorgeous the place and rooms where immaculate the staff where more than amazing and helpful we couldn’t of wanted more! Thank you also to Eric who came to our every need throughout the morning getting ready and into the night, then also the next day nothing was too much trouble!! It really did make the whole experience even more amazing!

I visited the castle for an overnight with a friend, we stayed in one of the single rooms on the first floor, it was stunning. The room was clean, welcoming and spacious and the bathroom was equally lovely. The staff were welcoming and friendly and one member of the team even gave us a tour of the castle when we asked for more information than what was in the booklet in our room, he was friendly and knowledgeable about the castle and allowed us the opportunity to explore the areas that we had not yet found. We spent the afternoon strolling around the grounds and through the surrounding woods and then went inside for dinner in the evening, even having the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the filming that was taking place in the castle for a BBC show. We had dinner in the 1851 restaurant, the staff again were friendly and helpful and the food was lovely. Breakfast was equally nice. Just a shame we had to come home again, we will definitely be back. Thank you :)

I had the most magical time at Peckforton Castle when I was very lucky enough to come and honoured to see my cousin and his wife who looked liked a real life princess have their reception at the castle. I met a very kind gentleman named Adam who was fabulous, he shown myself and my dad around as we had never been before and any questions we had (my dad used to be a history teacher so was very curious about the history behind the castle etc) he answered happily and with great knowledge. He was extremely helpful and very lovely and kind. The castle is beautiful and after seeing my cousin and his beautiful wife have their reception there it’s my dream one day to do the same and this is partly because not only were all the staff at the castle lovely but Adam made myself and my dad feel that welcomed that we could return whenever! Massive thank you to Adam and all of the other staff for a memorable visit x

I had a really fabulous day at the spa today with my friend. Friendly staff, lovely treatments, glass of fizz.... and to top of off bueatiful sunshine whilst in the hot tubs. Special shout out to Laura. Therapist.. a lovely friendly lady who looked after me very well. Thankyou .. I will be back

Had an amazing night, the room was lovely, food amazing such a beautiful hotel. Got to call out Adam who kindly showed us the wine cellar and one of the halls, he also shared the history of the castle, amazed he’d only worked there 2 months! Nice to hear people praising the owners, obviously why the staff are so great! Also big thank you to Ellen who looked after us whilst dinning in the restaurant. We will definitely be back

I booked a spa day with my friend as a special treat for her 50th. We were a little disappointed with the spa, the hot tub wasn’t warm & there was nowhere to get changed. We were also a bit miffed that we had to get out of our robes to go for afternoon tea & then change back into our wet robes afterwards. We had to ask for towels & slippers on our return from the brasserie. The treatments were fantastic & the girls were amazing. The facilities are poor really.

User

9 of us went here for afternoon tea for my birthday, the building and grounds are beautiful but that was about all that was good. The staff were no where to be seen half the time, took them ages to take us to the table, when we were finally seated there was already milk pots on the table but they all had flys in them so we asked for fresh ones which the lady said oh they weren’t supposed to be on here. We waited probably 20mins before we got our first cup of tea in a small pot and finally the afternoon tea came out, which was very disappointing. The bread was stale and so were some of the cakes the only nice bit was the scones, at this point our tea pots had ran out but there was no staff in site to ask for more so we had to go looking for them, and it was the same again when we wanted to pay the bill and leave. The other tables in the room hadn’t been cleared away while we were sat there either. It also turned out that one of my family members rang the day before to ask them to do something on the plate as it was for my birthday but this wasn’t done either.

It really puts me off visiting again as I would have gone for a meal but the way we were looked after was very poor.

User

Had the room booked. Looked forward to it for 2 weeks. Drove for 3 hours and arrived at 2.30 to find the hotel had been booked the night before and cleaning all the sick from our room floor took till 4pm. Had to wait in reception for an hour, nursing a flat pint, all the while, watching the higher class of patron stroll straight past us and be given their room key. Decided to try seeing past this oversight. Thought the spa would be a great way to unwind. We're told it would cost an extra £15 per person to use a hot tub. Thought we would swallow the bitter pill and get down to the spa only to be told that it was too full and we would have to forfeit any pleasure. Back to the room we went. Tiny window, middle of summer and 26.5 degree heat in the room. Couldn't get comfortable, had to throw duvet on floor, had about 2 hours sleep whilst lying there waiting for breakfast. Luckily helped along in my sleepless slumber by the squeels of middle aged women who seemingly thought they were teens on a weekend away. Breakfast time came and it was a shock show. Premier Inn make this place look rookie. No seats, a 30min wait, no eggs, no bacon, more wait. Back to the room to shower. That was ok, broken hairdryer, so unhappy other half. Now to start the last bit of our weekend!!! Hopefully it gets better.

Will not be staying again. Much fresher and happier after a night at a Travel Lodge. Expensive for a few selfies.

Booked through groupon deal 1 night stay evening meal and breakfast, the grounds and castle are wonderful but that’s all I can say, did not find the staff very friendly all seemed a bit awkward, wasn’t taken to our room just pointed to the direction it was in. No clear signage ast to where the numbers where until you had climbed several flights of stairs ( no lift ) then suddenly directions to rooms.

After another several flights of stairs finally found the room 504.

It was very basic tiny tv on the wall, not much light through a small window, room was very stuffy.

Felt like we had been put in the furthest point of the castle and the highest too. The evening meal was booked for us for 1900 not our choice.

We arrived at the restaurant after climbing down several flights of stairs from our room then climb another set to the restaurant.

We where the first people in there and was shown to our table which was right next to the door way opening of which the staff would constantly walk through. How ever the waiting staff were great and the meal was lovely.

Another point to add is the car parking, it is some way from the castle down a very steep slope. You have to park at the reception disinbarc then park your car in a very muddy car park.

They do offer a valet parking but wasn’t aware of this until checked in and already parked up.

This place isn’t for the old or unfit too much walking involved.

Not much info around the history of the castle in situ had to go online to find this and was shocked to find it was built in 1844 ? So not even a medieval history.

Overall didn’t feel welcome (perhaps it was the Groupon thing) did not wow us at all.

User

The positives the grounds are beautiful. The negatives we booked a spa day my mum and I - we had two treatments which were lovely, the massive let down is the facilities - just no where near enough 6 beds in the snug - 2 hot tubs and a sauna is not what I call a spa ??? We had no where to sit at all at one point. So we got changed and went for some lunch. It’s really not on - if you advertise as a spa you should be able to support it. It took us longer to travel to you than we spent there - not at all a pleasant experience. I would stay over but would never just make the journey for the spa.

User

Left without staying the night..

Checked in, asked for the times for breakfast given inaccurate times.

Asked about spa, got told it was open for another 2 hours, nothing else was mentioned. So we went to our room, I looked through the information book still nothing mentioned about the spa facilities so at 38 weeks pregnant walked back down from room 503 which is a trek in itself to be told there was spaces available but a charge of £15 per person......apparently unless your booking a spa treatment (but you've spent £75 on a room) you are unable to use the spa facilities but wait you can if you pay an extra £15 per person. To use a hot tub, storm shower and sauna... so back to the room called down to reception, let me see what I can do but this is our policy no call back and when advised reception it's not in the info book, was told "I've not read that"... when back in the room TV doesn't work call for assistance no one arrived so came down to reception to say this was unacceptable and we'd like to leave. So I've just paid £30 for an hour in a room.. met with the manager who wasn't very helpful kept on quoting that it's our policy it is on our website etc.. but the incorrect information we've been given isn't on your website, then when I went back to hand in our keys she'd given the receptionist the booking form with bits highlighted.. I'm sorry this was not necessary.. Wedding anniversary spoilt, surprise for husband spoilt... wish I'd gone to the double tree hilton, they could not do anymore for us when we went and you don't pay extra for facilities..wont be recommending, won't be going back...

One positive charlotte on receiption..

User
