Penny Lane Domestic Appliances - Liverpool Description

How much do we charge?

Our fixed labour charge for a repair is £45. 00, plus any parts required. We don't charge VAT.

This labour charge remains fixed and is not based on an hourly rate – it is one simple charge which covers your repair whether we complete it on the first call or have to come back another day if parts need to be ordered.

We maintain a " No Call-out charge " policy, which simply means if we call to your home to carry out repairs to your appliance – but for one reason or another we're unable to repair your appliance, there will be no charge.

At a time when manufacturers are offering repairs with labour /call out charges of £80 - £120 or national companies are offering "fixed price repairs" at inflated prices, we believe we offer a quality repair at a reasonable price.

Can I use Oxygen bleach in my colour wash?
Oxygen bleach is colour-safe and won't bleach white spots onto dyed fabrics as Chlorine bleach would. It can be used safely to remove dirt and stains from your coloured clothes
Oxygen bleach in powder form is usually part of a good Biological detergent and also sold separately as an powder additive with names like "Oxy power, Oxy action or Oxy stain remover" that can be safely used in your Washing machine.

How to clean a smelly Washing machine
If you always select cool 30°C quick wash programme, and only use Colour detergent, Liquid, Liquid tablets or any other detergent that does not contain bleach. This will cause a build up of dirt, grease and Bacteria, unpleasant smells can form in the washing machine.
Two to three times a year, (about every 4 months) simply run your Washing machine on the hottest (90°C) wash, with a Biological detergent (soap powder or tablets) that contai...ns Oxygen bleach. This maintenance wash will keep the machine and the outlet hose clean and free from a build-up of dirt and grease and Bacteria.

Is Fabric softener necessary?
Originally, the only purpose for using fabric softener was to reduce static cling in synthetic fabrics; it isn't needed at all when washing natural fibres.
Allergic reaction!
... Adults and children with sensitive skin may have problems using fabric softener; an allergic reaction could be due to the ingredients giving the fabric softener its fresh scent.
We consider the use of fabric softener to be completely unnecessary and a waste of money.

Care symbols on clothing labels?
The care symbols on clothing labels are there to help you clean, dry and iron your clothes effectively, without damaging them.
However, they can be confusing, so here is a clear explanation of what they all mean: http://www.pennylane-domestics.co.uk/helâ €¦/care-sysmboles.htm

My machine has stopped working mid cycle?
You can wash the same items for years, then one day for no apparent reason your Washing machine stops working mid cycle - or refuses complete the final spin.
Overloading?
... Our customers are always concerned about damaging their Washing machine by overloading. What causes more damage then overloading the machine is washing one large heavy item by itself, or one large heavy item with a number of light items.
Unbalanced load!
Washing just one large heavy item will often cause an unbalance load. If your machine detects an unbalance load it will abort or stop working mid cycle, because Washing machines are designed to protect themselves from the potential damaged that an unbalanced load would cause.

Why do socks get lost in the Washing machine?
Socks, especially children's socks somehow manage to get themselves caught in the gap between the moving inner drum and the door seal, and get pulled into the machine.
How to Avoid losing socks in the Washing machine
... The simplest way to avoid losing socks in your Washing machine is to put all your socks in a Mesh wash bag or a Pillowcase.

Washing bath mat sets!
" We've seen many washing machines that have been completely wrecked by washing bath mats! "
Washing bath mat sets can cause major damage to your washing machine by putting excessive strain on your washing machine and the possibility of causing a unbalanced load.
... Apart from damaging the inner drum and drum bearings, they can also short circuit the motor. Good advice is never wash bath mats in your washing machine Although the wash label on the bath mats will often say you can, we would advice you to always wash mats by hand in the sink or in bowl and hang then on a washing line to drip dry. Better still take them to your local public launderette.
Rubber backing
The rubber backing on some of the cheaper bath mats will often break down and separate, and totally clog the wash system hoses, pumps and filters.
