It is completely new because we are selling Fresh Pasteurised milk from the farm gate via a vending machine. Remember milk from the churn in days gone by, tastes as good as that! We cannot tell the difference between our pasteurised and straight from the cow. (We did a blind taste test on the family)
Our Kennerley family have farmed and produced milk at Plum Tree Farm since the 40’s and have been in the surrounding area dairy farming for generations. Our area is definitely cow grazing heaven, in the lush pastures of Eastern Cheshire the cows main diet is grazed grass.
On our farm our philosophy is simple, to have cows out in the fields eating fresh grass as much as they can. This means we get less litres per cow but each animal is under less pressure, hence less vet visits and less health problems in general, and the milk tastes great! !
The milk is untouched other than pasteurisation.

We have installed a pasteurising room with new pasteurising machine connected to our milk bulk tank. Fresh milk is passed through the pasteuriser and cooled before passing into a stainless
steel churn.
The churn is sealed and the milk taken to the vending machine where it is connected to be dispensed. The vending machine is basically a very large hi-tech fridge unit. Milk can be purchased by cash or card (contactless) or iPhone. Glass bottles are available to purchase and re-use or bring your own bottle.
We thought it was time for a change, from farmer to consumer with only a fields length to travel! No more food miles! With glass bottles to refill we are also promoting environmentally friendly milk purchasing. We have two young boys who we hope to teach the importance of conserving our countryside.

An average family will throw away over 300 plastic milk containers in a year, this glass milk bottle will be re-used for months and months. It’s one of the few ways we can reduce plastic we buy. Our milk will keep for 5 days in a very clean glass bottle in the fridge. Please share.
Just a note to all our lovely customers who buy their glass bottles, please put your payment into the “hole” in the wall at the back left of the vending shed, we have money being taken regularly at the moment. After a hot long summer finally winter feed is ready in the fields... but.... not as much of it as we would like! When the tractors are in the way, spare a thought for the farmers who are working hard to get feed in from the fields to feed the cows, to produce the milk, to feed all our families.

What a differance a couple of months make to the weather, our Free Range cows are back grazing the lush grass that makes our milk so creamy .
