Merry Christmas to all our customers, new and old. We're back open on the 4th January, as we enjoy a well deserved break. Drink and be merry one and all, here's to a wonderful 2018 x

Having 'broken' the internet yesterday, allow me to air my rebuttle: the only things we have in common with 'the pound bakery' are 1. we make pies 2. we have small profit margins.
Their business model is based on the 'stack them high, sell them low' mantra, which calls for huge production volumes in order to facilitate this.
We produce approximately 15000 pies per annum, BY HAND, using the very best locally sourced ingredients, from small, reputable suppliers (where possible)....
We do not penny-pinch, nor find cheaper alternatives, if this compromises the ORIGINAL RECIPES. For example, the lard used for our pastry - for the past 30 years - has increased by £4 a 15kg box over the last 18 months. There are cheaper alternatives, but we refuse to use them as we believe that this would compromise the overall quality.
We have reduced the cost of the pies by 50p over the last 12 months by simply allowing the pies to organically cool and not keeping them warm in a pie warmer (which ultimately dries them out leaving an inferior product). To combat this we do more bakes during the day, so there's more chance of buying a hot pie. This has passed the savings on to you, the valued customer.
THE 'COST ARGUMENT' does the rounds every 2 years and I know Russell tired of addressing it during his time as custodian of Potts. We, as a small independant bakery, cannot compete with the buying power and production volumes of multi-national organisations. Everything they do, at porduction level, is automated, with minimal human involvement.
In the end, it is customer choice and if price is the only driver, then that's fine. There are places you can make your money go further. Personally I'm happy producing small quantities, knowing EXACTLY what goes into them.
Some of the comments directed at Russell were disgraceful. The guy was in business for over 20 years, and did what he believed was right for the business. Love him, or hate him he was part of the business and its history. HOWEVER he has not been involved with Potts since MAY 2016.
Social media is a fantastic way of bringing people together and promoting local businesses when used for its intended purpose. However it seems that all too often mob mentalitiy pervades, where the keyboard warriors throw conjecture and negativity about with little thought of the consequences.
Please feel free to share.

I,ve found that the only thing that can beat a Potts Pie , is another one, get in there.

I love these Pies. They did my grandsons christening. Great value. Plus I get a foil every year for Christmas eve.

User

Hand made quality pie, great burgers & pizzas with evening delivery Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Fantastic buns, bread, cakes, meat, salad, dairy from local producers! Low cal subs & spuds. Lovely staff! Love it!

User

Excellent family run business with a large selection of delicacies on offer. Made and baked on the premises by the owner. The pies are filled with quality ingredients, and seasoned to produce that traditional Potts taste. Salads, jacket potatoes, sandwiches and filled bread rolls are also on offer, along with cakes, hot and cold drinks. Definitely recommend popping in for fresh food, and to take advantage of the varied frozen pies to take home for the freezer.

As a Wiganer we can absolutely recommend Potts pies. Tasty, with plenty of meaty filling and delicious pastry. Definitely be back.

User

They are the best pies ever especially the meat and potato and the hot pots and the steak and ale if they still do them

User

Not a patch Greens......and nearly twice the price

User

I had the gut buster roll and even though it was adequate the oil that they fried the eggs in should be changed as egg whites were blackened wasn't overly keen on it. Also had a strawberry and rhubarb slice which was outstanding.
