The Vital Pyramid. A lot of people massively over think and are looking for the secret move that ends the engagement. It doesn’t exist.
The foundation of your capabilities needs to be mindset. You can learn ‘moves’ all you want but if you don’t have the emotional software to use with hardware you’ll fail every-time. It’s called ‘state access’ the ability to turn on sheer aggression and tenacity when needed.
Next is tactics/principles. These are the principles such as always a...ssume there is more than one attacker, get up asap, once attacking you keep going until the threat is finished, all the way in or all the way out. Don’t chase the wrist. They provide the winning gameplan to most situations.
Next is skills. These are the breakdown of individual situations that provide a more efficient responses but are never fool proof. These are backed up by mindset and principles. The ability to revert back to mindset and improvisation is key or you risk freezing when it goes wrong or doesn’t work.
Lastly is kit/weapons. Ultimately you can not rely on these and if you can deal with most situations empty handed then kit is a bonus. This is where most professional organisations such as military & police fall down.
We can never prepare fully for a violent engagement, but we train hard for the worst case scenarios to get as close as possible. On the day it will come down to mindset, principles backed up by efficient skills with a little bit of luck.
